Never had any sort of ear infection til last Friday. Had a sore throat for a few days, figured it was the pollen bugging me and ignored it. Woke up Friday morning and was introduced to Vertigo. Not much fun.
Went to walk in care once the spins ceased, Dr was top notch, seemed to know exactly what I was going thru. Suggested laying low a few days and taking Meclizine (a motion sickness drug) for a couple days.
While the dizzy stuff has ceased, the meds really whup ya in the drowsies.
Since I dont want to take much time from work, I've been jolting my system with caffeine :cool:
She said a sterile inner ear infection like mine typically goes away after a week.
Anyone else ever get these? Any tips?
I've been sleeping like a rock these past few days!

You know, ironically enough, the same thing happened to R2-D2 on Tattooine. Just cruising along and some sneaky Jawa's hit him with an "Inner Ear Infection Vertigo-Inducing" blast rifle. Poor guy fell flat on his face from the vertigo. Damn Jawa's...
I haven't had what you are describing but the ex-wife had vertigo attacks quit often a few years ago. Valium is what she got from the doctor. She slept very well from it.

sorry to hear, LePaul. My brother had a bucket load of this trouble, but when he was a small child. If your problem persists, I'll find out more and post back.

Try warm olive oil with finely chopped or crushed garlic cloves steeped in it.
Just put the garlic in the oil & let it sit a few hours, then warm the oil until it's almost hot ( I use tap hot tap water ) Have someone put a few drops of the oil into your affected ear & use a gentle massage behind your jaw ( eustachian tube ) & apply a heating pad or hot water bottle.
That's what my grandmother did & she rasied 13 kids & never went to a doctor for anything with her kids that didn't involve a broken bone.
I just used it on my wife who had an ear infection last month, she tried it two days & went to the doctor, after two weeks of the doctors treatment she felt like she did after two days of mine. It might help you, might not.

Make sure you play lotsa AH on a really really big monitor.

AquaEar, or whatever you use for 'swimmer's ear'.
Medicinal Alchohol pretty much, it dries up the moisture and kills the bacteria. (apply it directly into the effected ear, leave it sit for a minute or so then drain by tilting head to one side....what doesnt drain out immediately will evaporate very quickly)
It also feels like someone is cleaning out your head with a gas axe.
Hurts like you wouldnt believe for a few seconds, then goes kinda hot and numb at the same time.
It is designed as a preventative measure, but I have found it to work extremely well in clearing up an inner ear infection....be warned though, I am deadly serious about how much it hurts, that part I cannot overstate.
Had inner ear infections on and off since I was a small boy, havent had to see a doctor about it in years, if it shows up i zap it with Aqua-ear and all is good.
You have my sympathy, they arent much fun.

Antibiotics?
I had a throat infection recently. Probably Streptococcus they said. Got put on a 4 days medication of what the doc described as "Pentagon dosis", - some 3000 milligrammes of strong antibiotic pro day. Makes you crap like a cow!
But,,,,it was a nook. I'm fine now. ;)

Had some realy bad sinus infections when I was a child. Also affected my inner ear!
Got some nose drops from a Dr. No idea what the stuff was, too young then. Worked!
Think the inner ear and sinus connections kinda makes em both infected. Seems like if one gets infected it also tends to affect the other.
Some of those really bad molds get into your system through your nose.
A bad tooth ( infected ) can cause some of the same symptoms.
Have you tried warmed ( use the tape water thing ) Hydrogen pyroxide?
Doesn't hurt, that I can recall, but makes allot of fizzing popping sounds in your head :lol .
That stuff can do allot of GOOD things for you. Read the label some time. And it's cheap!

Yep had that LePaul. Same sort of thing - all ok then suddenly world turns into a pitching shipd deck. I had same treatment - it's viral so no meds do anything - anti-vertigo drug till it went away - took about a week. Just be careful truning your head too fast. I found if I was driving and looked left and right too quick it would set it off. Drugs worked well though.

If memory serves me correctly, V Van Gogh had an infection in his left ear. I just can't remember what he did about it!:huh

If I get dunked under water, go swimming, or any sort of head cold, I always get an ear infection. Usually "middle ear", sometimes inner. Had "tubes" when I was a kid to help with middle ear infections also, but that's not uncommon.
Only thing to do is get some antibiotics, drink some nyquil, and wait a few days. Usually they only hurt like hell for a day or 2. On those days I don't play well with others. Vertigo has never really been a problem for me either.

Put some soap on the end of a screwdriver and jam it in there hard. When you cant hear the screwdriver anymore, but feel something pointy caressing your brain your far enough. Wiggle it about abit to get the system properly cleaned and remove the screewdriver.
Repeat every morning. If you do it long enough your infection will be gone. A side effect is that you may turn republican. If you already are then nevermind. ;)

Thankfully the ear infection is largely gone.
I stopped taking that meclizine stuff yesterday. If you are ever out of sleeping pills and need to sleep, take em!

It will take care of itself. Nothing else gonna help. John Glenn had same problem as I recall back in Mercury days.

I went through several years of having labyrinthitus and was signed off sick for a few months back in 1996 (ended up having to change jobs from a mechanic/engineer to a desk job because of safety concerns). Nothing more frustrating and demotivating that suffering from vertigo! Luckily I haven't had any problems for about 6 or 7 years. Hope you feel better soon!
