Title: So Long, and thanks for all the Fish.
Post by: Fatty on May 12, 2001, 03:41:00 PM
The world lost a bit of wit yesterday when Douglas Adams died from a heart attack at 49.

what! no way......that fully sucks. hitchhiker's guide was the first series of books i was ever addicted to. you sit there - can't wait for the next one to come out. read it in 1 1/2 days and then have to wait another year.......man, great loss indeed. <S> DA

I think he finally managed not to look and saw the hidden spacecraft.

"`How do you feel?' he asked him.
`Like a military academy,' said Arthur, `bits of me keep passing out.'" ....
`We're safe,' he said.
`Oh good,' said Arthur.
`We're in a small galley cabin,' said Ford, `in one of the spaceships of the Vogon Constructor Fleet.'
`Ah,' said Arthur, `this is obviously some strange usage of the word "safe" that I wasn't previously aware of.'
---------------------------------------------
"`You know,' said Arthur, `it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die from asphyxiation in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young.'
`Why, what did she tell you?'
`I don't know, I didn't listen.'"
---------------------------------------------
"`Er, hey Earthman...'
`Arthur,' said Arthur.
`Yeah, could you just sort of keep this robot with you and guard this end of the passageway. OK?'
`Guard?' said Arthur. `What from? You just said there's no one here.'
`Yeah, well, just for safety, OK?' said Zaphod.
`Whose? Yours or mine?'"
---------------------------------------------
"`She hit me on the head with the rock again.'
`I think I can confirm that that was my daughter.'
`Sweet kid.'
`You have to get to know her,' said Arthur.
`She eases up does she?'
`No,' said Arthur, `but you get a better sense of when to duck.'"
--------------------------------------------

Douglas,

I miss you. I am sure I am not the only one on this particular bit of the Milky Way. But our sad feelings are really the mourning of our own loss.

I'm sure they'll enjoy your company where ever you are now, as we did.

Hope you meet Graham, hes probably keeping a seat warm there...

I've been a fan of Adams ever since I stumbled across his books. His unbelieveable fantasy lead to jokes and comments and general satire that I found irresistible.

The world is now a little less colourful and a little more grey.

Am saddened by his passing  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif).

Maybe he is following Hotblack Desiato's lead... he's spending a year dead for tax reasons.

He was a true genius in everything he did. I will miss him greatly.

Ford "It's rather unpleasantly like being drunk"

Arthur "What's so unpleasant about being drunk"?

Ford "Ask a glass of water"

He will be sadly missed.

RIP Mr. Adams. Sad news indeed.

I may have been an even bigger fan of his books after Hitchhiker's. Ragged copies of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency & The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul have been next to my omnibus HitchHiker's volume for years.

Heard an interview where he said that the bus station incident with the pack of biscuits (from So long & thanks) actually happenned to him. Those that have read it will know what I'm talking about. Hilarious stuff  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

He will be missed

Loved all his books.  Anyone ever read "Last Chance To See"?  His blurb on the jacket read that he travelled the world looking for endangered animals so he could poke fun at them.

Gonna miss that kind of humour.

Wasn't going to post anymore in here, but must make an exception for Douglas Adams.  Loved his books, reading all the HGttG books.  A very unique wit that could have me laughing out of the clear blue.  He will be missed  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
