In at least 5 different fights i have seen zeros on fire, fly for over a minute. In the last verison as soon as a zero caught fire save ammo and break off, 3-5 seconds and dead. I mean cmon, these planes didnt have self sealing fuel tanks, it caught fire it blew up period.

havn't noticed since i don't get too many kills:D if so that leaves plenty of time for others to pounce on your kill and steal it....not that anyone would do that:lol

I don't care how long they burn (well, I care, but not that much).
What I'd like to request is that fire go a long way toward awarding "kill points". As-is you can set a plane on fire and then somebody else can get the kill. I'd rather set the plane on fire then pull away safely and know that it was goind down one way or another. Then somebody cherry picks it while it's falling from the sky and steals a kill I earned :(
Oh well.
Same goes for bombers! How many times have I lit an entire formation of B24s on fire (multiple fires per plane, no less!!!) only to get 3 assists because some suicide LA7 flies up behind them and shoots at them before losing engine, oil, and wings.
Fire should tilt the scales. If you SET the fire, you get the kill, under most situations. I'll leave the real code up to HTC, but that's my request.

A6Ms have always lasted about a minute while on fire.
Mossies last about 25 seconds.

I agree Krusty. The .longer the fire burns the more it should count towards damage points. That coad change may be a ways off though.

Yesterday I attacked a formation Lancs escorted by a P47N. Set the Thunderbolt afire. Then attacked the Lancs together with a few other guys. Thunderbolt continued to burn..for 3 min 28 sec! And I am not sure if the fire was the reason for the eventual death, the P47s driver was flying with a pilot wound.

Even if you burn him, you didnt kill him yet. He still can fly, shoot and kill if lucky. In other words he still a threat. And as long as he is a threat you cannt blame others for "steal" you kill. If you want a kill make sure he is not a threat any more.
P.S. Dont want to say it always valid, depending on actual situation.

when a flaming plane blows up, we should have the bowling alley sound effect from The Fighting lady (http://www.archive.org/details/FightingLady)

if you set someone on fire, they should be your kill. the only exception for this should be if the pilot managed to land safely.

There is a bug on the P47N, if you are hit at the right fuel tank, it will leack and your plane will be set ablaze, even if the tank is umpty. Thus the burning but not dying syndrome. It happened to me 3 times, each time I flew around till I landed. I have the vids too.

Good to know. I hope it's been reported!

Problem I see with fire is that HT apparently doesn't model the associated drag rise. A massive fuel leak and fire completely disrupts airflow and makes an aircraft almost unflyable, especially a fighter. While I understand the desire to give the guy an opportunity to disengage, bail out or attempt a landing, there is no way a flaming Zeke (or any other fighter) would still be capable of ACM. Let them burn for a minute if they want (unlikely with aviation gas) but award the kill to whoever set them on fire and raise the drag to make it impossible to continue a fight.

they can roll into the flaming wing very effectively

yea i see them burning and keep goin like its ok. IF they went out of controll and started to go down instead of comin after u i doubt people will come to finish them off, unless there being gay and tryin to steal points.
2 minutes ago i came up on a la7(big surprise) and i take his wing off. I broke off and let him drop, but i get an assist? I think AH has to rework the scoreing system.

In IL2/Pacific Fighters, when you're lit up on fire, your vision starts to redden from being wounded more and more. I would like to see that kind of effect in AH2, rather than just the whole pilot wound with blackouts here and there or the whole plane on fire bit.
-
how is that [acific fighters, i seen a couple of screen shots and it looks good.

Never played it, but something like that would be cool.
Maybe have the cockpit fill with smoke so the pilot cant see.
Maybe have the cockpit fill with fire, and if the pilot doesn't bail he dies in a pre-determined time.
Maybe have the metal in the cockpit change colors to red, to simulate it heating up. Then have the controls take a crap, as the wiring harness melts.
Maybe have the pilot automatically bail after a pre-determined time, because he doesn't want to "die".

Its an aquired taste. The FM is a little bit more dumber than AH2, and the AI is no match for human pilots.
But the excitement of sitting on a CV while other planes are taking off from other carriers and heading towards an island in the distance, watching the fog clear and seeing dust kick up from japanese Niki's taking off, really is an amazing immersion factor.
The graphics are great, damage model is awesome, I play it when I'm in the mood when AH2 is slow or when I'm working on my campaigns.
