ok..i really need one now..
i have this tiny 20gig...
IF i get one and set it up as a slave..
what kind do i get?
I have a Frys Electroics down the road..i was going to just run down and get one..but.....
Parallel ATA...Serial ATA...SCSI...??? AHHHHHHH i dont know what those are..
I just want to open my box...well..technically it doesnt have its side on it right now....but..just swicth the littel button to slave...press the ribbon cable into..and save away!!!!
Isnt it pretty much that easy?
and ..one more ?..IF you operate it as a slave..do you need to copy windows in it too?...or just save away?
Thanks for you genuises ' help; )

If you're talking about ribbon cables and master and slave drives, you're talking about a standard IDE drive. The kind you probably already have.
Serial ATA is a totally different cable, so unless it's already built into your motherboard you're going to have to buy a card. It's the way to go in new PCs, but not worth it as an upgrade.
Don't bother with SCSI.
I'd just go find a 7200 rpm IDE drive from a reputable brand (western digital, maxtor, seagate) that fits your budget/size requirements, set the jumper to slave or cable select, and slap it in there. Try to find one with a cache size of 8MB (they may make larger ones now too). You don't need to install any software; Windows will take care of everything as long as the jumpers are set right.

If it's more storage space your looking for, then an external hard drive is a good option. I just got a 300GB Seagate external drive from Fry's for $149. It can use either firewire or USB 2.0. And since it's external, you can move it from computer to computer if you want.
Don't mess with the windows files. If you want to have windows on a bigger hard drive, you will have to reinstall windows on the new drive and start from scratch.

Crap , you ruined your windows when it was not necessary ...
After adding a HD you must create a partition and then format the partition...
You should have posted on the hardware forum, I would have give you the step to follow to setup it successfully ,I didn't see your post yesterday :(

Start->Run-> diskmgmt.msc
Right-click on a new drive and format it, you also can assign a drive-letter you like or partition it into several logical disks (i don't know why anyone needs it since FAT16 times).
