Title: Mars01, Slapshot, and any others
Post by: JMFJ on June 08, 2006, 05:57:40 PM
I realize you guys don't put any stock into the GV side of the game, but if it wasn't for the GV's HTC wouldn't be getting my 15$ a month.

I realize the game was created, and based on the flying aspect of the game.

It has become evident by your posting that you don't fully understand the level of skill it takes to excell as a GV'r.

The ground game has become much more than a camp or be camped fight.

I will offer an open invitation to you guys or anyone for that matter, to join me in my GV anytime to ride around with me so you can get a first hand perspective of what the GV game has become, and how I personally play.

I feel if you had more personal knowledge of what I do, and how much the GV aspect of the game has changed since AH1 you will have a better understanding of how fun it can be.

Don't get me wrong this is not a selfless act, it is my hope that by showing you or anybody else this side of the game.  It will help to create more GV'rs and good GV fights for myself and all others who enjoy the GV game, and less confusion as to what GV'rs actually do.

You don't want to challenge mars to a GV war. He will pwn joo! He is our GV group commander. He can hit a flea offa dog at 4K. You venture into dangerous territory my friend.

The offer wasn't just for the Bk's, it was for everyone.  I also wasn't challenging anyone, I offered for them to join me.  Too get a first hand perspective of that which I post about.

GV's are ez mode. I save GV's for when I can no longer see straight due to the massive consumption of beer.

I don't believe that I have ever ostricized you for being a GVer. I have spent MANY hours in GVs back in AH I and the beginning of AH II and have been very successful in them. If I can see you ... you are in trouble ... even at +5K out.

They just don't appeal to me anymore ... I will occasionally up a Tiger and defend a base if needed.

IMO, it's a ton of fun attacking a GV mission/squad op.

I'm glad that some have decided to excel in this aspect of AH, makes the game fun for more people.

"No thanks"  would have been sufficient.   JMFJ was just offering to show you all another side of the game...  As far as gv's being easy mode, you obviously haven't went up against JMFJ before,  though I guess you are probably half right...repeatedly sending you back to the tower would probably considered easy to J,  however you trying to get just one kill in 10 attempts would be far from easy. This is getting off subject though.  All JMFJ was doing was offering to show you the ground game from his point of view in hopes that you all might enjoy it better and spend some time down here with us playing in the dirt.

I haven't truly enjoyed the GV aspect of the game since AH1, when the pizza map had a perpetual small scale war running around the outer ring, and the canyons.

I still like to vulch with an osti, but the oddities of the trees, and the tendency for people to just setup camp and plaster the spawn point takes the fun out of the ground vehicle game for me. I haven't seen an actual engagement with any sort of maneuvering in months. It's always the same guys just camping each other's spawns. I find that painfully boring, so

no thanks.

Now I don't know what Tufnuts problem is, JM reached out to us shared his views, made some assumptions about me, slap and et-al. Slap returned the gesture and furthered the conversation with a little more insight into himself and his GV experience. I think slaps response was more than respectful and not at all threatening or condescending.

JM, its not that I disrespect you or any GVrs. If you guys are fighting and in a moving battle where the action is hot, then I am in. If you’re sitting in the same spot lobbing shells at close to BVR, then no thanks.

Like I have said before, my GV game was crawling, stalking and running through the city killing and being killed. There was nothing better than trying to hear another guy and figure the direction he is going just to get yourself into position. Or being spotted and having to lose an opponent, just to then turn the tables and chase them down. The patient anticipation as you waited before you made a move as the sound of the enemy tank got closer, buildings obscuring your view till they are on top of you, then it's a draw. Or coming around a corner, finger on the trigger to be the fastest and most accurate shot, hitting the kill spot first. Yeah that was all great fun and lost for me when they created this abortion they call Tank Town.

IMH If you can figure out how to fly in 3d and lead a shot, it's not rocket science to drive in 2d and lob shells on the move.

I also have sat on the outskirts, walking shells into an enemies position. That got boring to me.

I have yet to see a real tank battle in this game. AHI tank town came close to fostering it because you had many tanks together in close proximity mostly on the move fighting.

I do not consider spawning and getting shot a GV game any more than I consider vulching AtoA combat.  To me, the GV spawn campers are the guys that ruin the GV game.  At least in Fighters I have a chance to go to another field and maybe find a fight.  In a GV the fights are so few and far between that the last thing I would want to do is ruin one by camping it.

Now where do you sit. I have nothing to go on, other than your post a while ago about how you landed some absurd amount of kills. Now tell me they weren’t spawn camping kills.

You get yourself into a great GV battle, and I'm logged on and not in a good fight, I'll take you up on the diversion maybe see where you really sit. It could be fun.

Until then your a spawn camping dweeb :D :aok

Creton are you saying that there was another Tufnuts before me? If so I was not aware, and am not trying to impersonate.

Mars01- My comments were direct towards superDud and morpheus. While driving a tank might be easy compared to flying. It doesn't mean you are going to easily kill someone like JMFJ.  There is a whole lot more to it than point and click.

After ready both yours and hubs  post I think both of you would appreciate the way JMFJ does the GV thing.  He's got a bunch of film from this last weekend battleing just like you describe.  Take him up on his offer I think you'll enjoy it.  Maybe we can get some solid GV battles going again.

the most fun you can have in a GV is in Jeep and M8.  You can use GCM to outmaneuver tanks and aircraft chasing you, and peashoot their pilots so they go away.

not a bad thread, but lacking in originality. Guys like 1Hunglo and Redrum were the kings of GVs years ago.

JMJF has certainly destroyed a few of my tigers, and i dont think i even saw where he was shooting from most times.

GVs takes some skill, but imo the bugs are the downfall. you can still see enemy tanks through rises n the terrain, you can roll down a hill at 110mph and then hit a tree and make brain pate on the front of your skull.....then slip into 1st and start again....etc...etc.....i mean, its not as if our planes bounce off trees.....why are tanks so indestructable?

sadly, the most fun ive ever had in a GV was myself and 3 squaddies taking tigers to a heavily defended field, taking down the ack, ord and VH, then sitting on the rearm pads poping planes as they tried to take off.

the score count for a 1 hour battle that saw us fighting tanks and planes;

Tedrik - 67
Batfink - 54
Redtop - 49
Steffk - 50

when i was eventualy bombed i flew a C47 up to 25k and dropped field supps to the boys.

that WAS fun.

i think i remember that. you died just before i got my supplies to you hehe

anyway, JMFJ, GV's are good fun sometimes, i like to mess about in them on occasion, then the main arcade HOtards are in heavy supply, but, there is nowhere near the amount of skill required in GV's than flying a plane properly. GV, while needing some level of experience, simply doesnt require the same level of skill, as there are no maneuvers, nothing to worry about but driving shooting and hiding, hence why many players chose to GV/toolshed in their early days, as the learning curve is just so steep. i do like to GV when im bored, but flying IMHO requires more skill and is more rewarding.

i appreciate the offer though, and likewise, anytime you wanna learn to fly fighters a bit better i'll be glad to help you out :)

Whels was and probably still is one of the best GVers in the game. The guy is amazing at guesstimating your distance for the 1st shot ... if he doesn't get you on the first shot, and you don't get him with your first shot ... you will die.

I'm sorry I can't hold it anymore. First of all I think having gv's in the game is great. I'm not a HUGE gv guy but I will use them on occassion.

Second...For those of you that complain about the gv'rs.... PLEASE. Why in the name of God would you care wtf someone else is doing with their $15 a month. I mean if this is all you have to concern yourself with then........man do I feel bad for you. I think maybe it's time to say GOODBYE to mom and dad and make that leap into the real world where there are far more useful things to concern yourself with.

Also, I hope I don't offend any of my buds in saying this but.........If you think that this game involves a "SKILL" in anyway your sadly mistaken. I laugh my *** off when someone tries to say that the way they fly/drive their cartoon plane is a "SKILL":rofl :rofl

Bottom Line.....It's a GAME!!!

yeah bucky, it is a game, but there IS a skill difference between noobs and someone like levi for instance, no?

but i agree, telling people not to mess about in GVs is a little lame, just do whatever floats your boat, dont give a rats arse about what the other guys do...

Spawn camping is not GVing.  That is stopping other people from being able to engage in the GV game.

You have to upload your film to a server on the internet, then all you do is link to it.

I use these guys for stuff sometimes, go to this link:

http://www.thesproge.com/

then go to uploads.  Once your file is on the server you can then link to it from there.

I hope it works, this is the first film i've ever tried posting.  Thank you for the instructions Mars01.

I have others but this one is one I knew where to find in my ungodly list of Film#1-Film#500+.  I did edit out the vox cause there was some innappropriate vox going on on the squad vox.

Please be patient with the slowness of it, I had to keep parking up in trees about every 5 min due to my 3 year old daughter needing me & the phone ringin off the hook.

Also the film editor doesn't really show how many rounds were being fired at me.  You only see/hear probably 25% of the rounds that came at me.

Click on the names of the bish players, and you can see how many GV's await me at the top of the hill.  At one point there is 7 or 8 tigers, 3 panzers & 1 T34 all up there.

Keep in mind it is just me (in a Tiger) and Sam176 (in a Panzer), against all of them.

You just killed any pro stance you had with that statement.  For the AtoA guys, it's not like we can "hide in a cloud" and be indestructable if something distracting comes up.

Personally, I think HT should get rid of indestructable trees, but that's a dead horse.

WOW LOLH, that was worth this whole thing.  :D

JM I was merely asking for clarification, since the few times I have tried GVs in AHII, I found it very odd that I couldn't kill tanks in the woods, no matter how many shots I registered. So not knowing if that is actually a bug and that is why people want destructible trees, made me ask the question, to what I thought was a civil conversation up to this point LOL. (you IDIOTS!!!!!) priceless  :D

Anyway yes I started the film watched the first min, then cranked that baby into fast foreword and sat through the rest. Out of 20 or so kills I saw maybe 2 or 3 that were in close range and many that you dropped into their open turret door. Like I said your a good park and lob and you use the terrain well.

Find a close in battle and call me, we'll fight side by or against, it would be a fun diversion from the mundane of no fights, long flights and undefended base captures. Plus I enjoy a good meltdown every now and again.  :D

This is getting off subject though.  All JMFJ was doing was offering to show you the ground game from his point of view in hopes that you all might enjoy it better and spend some time down here with us playing in the dirt.

Tuffnuts gets my vote for the guy with the best avatar ! wtg sir !

JMFJ I too like the GV aspect of the game.  GVs can provide direct fire on towns/targets when it is crucial.  A base can be semi-easily sneaked when the town is sittin kinda far from the base on some maps. I've seen the Dustoff squad take quite a few bases w/ 2 ostis and an M3. I made this desert GV film awhile back. Here it is if ya never caught it:

IMO GVs add a necessary dynamic aspect to the game.  There may be only a few GV only players out there, but we've all used/needed them at some times in our AH lives.  <>

I feel if you had more personal knowledge of what I do, and how much the GV aspect of the game has changed since AH1 you will have a better understanding of how fun it can be.

Who cares if you like to ride around in a little tank hiding in the trees?   As long as you're having fun doing it, that's all that matters and not what others think about it.  Stop trying to get the approval of us that aren't into the GV portion of the game.  Most of us have already been there and done that and frankly found it boring and nothing you say or try to do will change our minds.

JMFJ,

What ack-ack is trying to tell you (which was seriously funny BTW) is that your audience here, for the most part, has been playing this game forever, and we've all done our share of the GVs for at least a couple of years.  This includes morpheus...

We are sooo happy for you that you like GVs, but we aren't speaking from ignorance when we say it isn't for us.  We were there, it was lame (the whole GV model along with the goofy terrain) so we left and we mostly just fly fighters in furballs, mostly because its pretty good stress relief.  If its between furballing and pr0n, you will always end up back furballing because the chaffing will set in after too much pr0n.  Maybe you'll end up liking fighters better than the GVs, maybe you won't, but I won't waste your time trying to sell you on it.  :aok
