I've got a little fiddling around to do on this one still. It is an Avenger of 30 Squadron, Royal New Zealand Air Force. This squadron operated along side American squadrons in the Solomons.
This aircraft was named "Plonky" by its crew, who all perished when this plane was shot down by flak over New Britain on 5th June 1944.

While it might look like a keg, I wouldn't want to drink the liquid inside it ( :p )

This brings to mind the story about an enterprising VF-17 pilot who offered to ferry a brand new TBM to the forward airbase in the Solomons. He figured you could get a lot of booze in the bomb bay of a TBM. Unfortunately he flew too close to a bypassed Japanese island on the way there and got shot up by an AA battery. The plane was considered a write off once he landed. IIRC most of the booze survived. I like a happy ending. :)
As for the time, it does not take long to knock them out one once the basic template is done. I'll do an hour or so 3 or 4 evenings a week and an occasional blitz on a day off.

According to the story I read, the booze bottles were all shattered and the pilot in question was forever doomed to ridicule by his squaddies.
