I predict a new distraction for the public to keep us occupied while congress shuffles the amnesty bill through committee.
O'Riley was invited by the Administration down to Guantanamo to show America how humane the conditions are... so obviously, the left has some smokescreen dirt waiting in the wings on how horrible the place is.
There will be much gnashing of teeth.. the media will be all over it.
....and the amnesty will pass.
I betcha!

Why do you hate America?

if only 3 detainees felt so crushed with hopelessness and despair that they killed themselves, obviously we are treating them not good enough. I say give them a diet of Jim Beam, and all the Bacon they can eat. That ought to improve morale.

Then they'd certainly be ready for relocation into Texas! :)

What crisis? Look at it this way, it's either a cure for over crowding or there are 3 vacanies that can be filled now. :p

It`s sad enough the new lows that the media seem to be reaching.
It`s even sadder that a lot of people haven`t got the common sense to see through some of the blatant manipulation.

Besides if three of those sub-human ****heads want to kill themselves without taking a bunch of innocents with them for a change. I say let em...hell we should try and make them want to kill themselves. They are worthless anyway.

Sorry I am in rare form today.
I'm just sick to death of the fact that these "people" are treated as victims of the opressive USA.
WE are the victims of their insane religous ideas, politics, and hunger for world domination. They don't even have the courage to fight us head on. Instead they kill innocent civilians, occaisionally a few thousand at a time (Okay so only once so far).
Yet we mistreat a few prisoners or whatever and we are the bad guys?
-
That does not make you the bad guys. But is the intel gathered from these people really that reliable and valuable that they are worth loosing so many ""bonus points"" on?
-
Nils, every nation at war winds up with a 'guantanamo'.
Bear in mind that these are in the overwhelming majority combatants... disarmed, captured and taken off the battlefield. I would prefer our soldiers continued to wherever possible capture combatants and suspected combatants.
Should our troops come to the conclusion that captured insurgents and terrorists are simply handed over for an interview and then released.. they will cease all attempts to capture.. and merely kill outright. They will not tolerate a 'catch and release' policy that gives the detainee a free ride home with their own intel on our operations for obvious reasons.
Ugly as it is.. guantanamo remains necessary.. we get intel, we keep them out of circulation and that undoubtably saves lives of coalition troops in afganistan and iraq.
-
I agree.. A POW camp is needed. But cant they be put in a regular camp and not chained to all kinds of things? If the images sent around the world were of prisoners waking about in a normal prison type place would people all over really bother and get food for their respective "propaganda"? I sure would not.
-
Nils, I just don't know. The mentality, education and religious frevor of the detainees probably dictate the type of detention. I'm no expert. I'm not convinced our government is either. I just don't know.
I do suspect that a WWII Stalag type camp would be an invitation to outright revolt and significantly reduce the amount of useable intel from individuals. This is a different type of conflict, with a significantly different type combatant.. we're not facing a national army playing by any rules we can recognize as 'conventional war'.
But, as I say... I just don't know.

It was a "Taliban Love Triangle" gone wrong.....

I really dont know either, but the kind of facility down there is bound to attract the medias attention and spun in whatever direction is correct or wanted by those who see it. That is my main reason for thinking that it has been handled poorly. If it had looked more conventional it could not have been used by the media the way it has.
-
Nils, one thing I do know... it wouldn't matter a bit; the media is quite adept at spinning anything... in fact they can effrectively spin NOTHING. ;)
-
those hajis down there have it good, real good as a matter of fact. They get clean quarters, food accorded their religion, the right to pray to their version of God. Showers......They arent getting their heads sliced off with their hands tied behind their backs while screaming at the top of their lungs. Or being taken outside and getting shot to death like rabid animals.
Nah, Keep the Git open and keep the haji terrorists there held under US military law until they repent their dirty dog ways or get old and die. Freeom is for those willing to preserve it, and destroying the enemies of freedom, or at least holding on to them until they either repent or die of old age is alright by me.

I saw this while trying to kill jetlag...
They re-ran a story from gitmo done last year. A basic summary of the environment:
There are 3 "levels" of security at Gitmo, one for terrorists that obey the rules of the camp, one for less "obedient" sorts and the last for those that outright refuse.
They then vary the "rewards" for each group of people. The cooperative can meet, talk, whatever. Less cooperative cannot, but still have some privileges. The worst cases get a koran, clothes and a bed.
The conditions of Gitmo are pretty much like other prisons. It is ran pretty much like other prisons. The only real difference is that the people incarcerated have not been convicted of a crime by a court. I guess I just don't understand Nilsen's view on this one. If he agrees on the legality, then the camp itself is a moot point.
