What an absolute waste

Part of me just died a little... :(

:cry :cry :cry
why oh why??? think of the money you could make if you went back in time with a few thousand dollars and bribed one of the guys on duty to 'lose them's somewhere for you to come and pick up later...
an original flying P38 with combat history, or any warbird for that matter would be PRICELESS. easiest way to become very very rich = mad scientist :D

No, that is just a picture of a typical Nomad squadron landing...
Geeze...

Thought it looked familier :)
On a serious note, there were a lot of P38s in th Phillipines that were bulldozed into a pit and buried. Many of them are apparently being recovered and are potentially restorable if the stories are to be believed.
There have also been a number recovered from New Guinuiea. Here is an old 475th bird that has been restored in Australia that came out of there. Not a flyer but a beautiful restoration nonetheless.

I cried on that first post, then had my spirits lifted by yours Guppy, that is one beautiful restore. I hope to one day earn a bit of money to volunteer to restore a beautiful WW2 plane. I got to sit in a B-17 this weekend for instance, i was just driving along and happened to notice a unusually large cessna landing at my local field, i stopped and watched and as it appeared again flying over the trees right over my head clearing the fence to land, it was a B-17. I nearly had a heart attack. Turns out they were landing there to give rides. I drove over, hung out with the pilots and and went all through the plane for free, even got to sit in the cockpit for free. One thing i noticed sitting in the captains chair, the views out the window are exactly the same as they are in AH. I actually felt comfortable sitting in the pilot's seat and knew where the instruments were all over the cockpit and how to operate them. I probably could have started it. What if they had had these sims in the 1940's i wondered? Now i just have to get my additional plot's ratings and apply to fly for the airlines, maybe i can get a hold of one. I could feel the history just sitting in the seat. I still wish it was a P-38 that had landed instead though:D

will they be used as target drones?

I probably could have started it.
It had an "E" key !?!?!?!?
I still wish it was a P-38 that had landed instead though
Then you wouldn't have been able to sit in it.

dear beared taco, my offer remains as it was originally placed. now with regard to that certain part of my anatomy that you seem obsessed with, you can find those easily because they rest (virtually speaking) comfortably upon your chin.

I think he's just a loud mouth or something everytime you say fight P-38 against 109 he's got some intricate rule devisement about how the duel should go down:D

Atleast those 38s can be found and salvaged (if you're rich enough).
Can't say the same for the F6Fs pushed off of carrier decks at the end of the war.
-
Raptor you mean you could actually find those 38's in the picture, and restore them to museum or flying condition????? They don't even have wings or tails, man those restorers are A&P mechanic geniuses:confused:
-
was refering to the P38s bulldozed into ditches in the Phillipines.

You guys gotta start paying better attention. You have the money, you can build it. Data plate restorations are often done with far less then was in those photos of the 38s.'
Here's an image of a homebuilt P51A that flew for the first time last month. It's accurate right down to the last panel but there is no wreckage or original P51A parts so it is a replica. Thats a real Allison engine under the cowling.
But it's a P51A even without the historical provinence. You have the money, the guys who built this one will build one for you too :) You want an F6F and have the cash, you can build one. Of course they've already done the replica 262s, 190s, Ki-43 Oscars, F3F's and so on.
