A squad mate of mine has been told he has to change his name from KoTex to something un-offensive.
Excuse me? What is offensive about the name KoTeX? I don't see it as offensive, I don't cover my childrens eyes when they pass the name emblazoned on packets in the feminine aisle of the supermarket. What is this ridiculousness?
To add insult to injustice, as a result of having his name wiped from the records for no reason, he lost all of his perk points and rank in the process. How is that fair? You probably have the right to ask him to change his name, but punishing him twice?
This is seriously messed up. Could you please tell me a) how the name Kotex is offensive to anyone. b) why he should lose his points and rank for no reason.

I'll bet this one gets locked real soon ... with the solution ... mail this kind of stuff to someone at HTC if you have a beef such as this.
Oh ... somone probably emailed HTC saying that the name was offensive. I don't think its offensive, but rather stupid and childish.

Locked for why?
Perhaps instead of passing down hard and fast rules without explanation, we should have reasons and guidlines where the community can see them to prevent offensive names like Snickers, Gerber or Oscar Mayer being used in future.

If someone has a beef with HTC I would say contact them privately. Bringing it to an open forum doesn't help anyone.

Far as I'm concerned its about time. Its too far beyond belief to think that anyone who can operate a computer cant figure this one out.
Grow up.

Can't believe that you are American! Fight for your rights!
As a first step I would suggest to send a copy of your message to Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc. They will be very surprised that their trademark is considered as public offence.
May be you will become a millionaire...

I'd go stand in front of HTC HQ with pitchforks and torches and demand they reinstate his name.

You know, it's not about the name, although it is a dramatic over-reaction on HTC's part to force such an inocuous name to be changed. It's that with this sudden and unannounced change of policy, many members who have been flying under these handles for years lose everything without rhyme or reason.
"BANG, we all of a sudden decided your name isn't family friendly in this war simlation. You lose everything you have accumualted under your account name, don't ask for it back and for goodness sake, don't speak up in public about it!"

TinmanX this is best handled via email with HTC.
