So I put out these littel black sticky traps to get a sample of the critters that be living in my home. Low and behold i get after 1 month, in the one downstairs, 6 brown recluses and 1 cricket. Upstairs, 3 brown recluses 1 jumping spider and 1 cricket. How can I tell that they are recluses? They have 6 eyes. 2 in front and two on each side. Hmmm, what to do.:(

Looked like this?

They are *way* nasty. Friend got bitten on the ankle and it was the size of a football in half a day. Took weeks to heal.
Protip: don't search GIS for brown recluse images while eating. The pictures of the necropsy are awful.

I'm betting they're common wolf spiders. :)

oh, how i wish you were right. They 3 diad eyes are specific to the recluse. I took out my swiss army knifes magnifying glass and made the call. No, I have to get rid of them. More sticky traps? Poison is last resort.

If you went with the dyads you do indeed have brown recluse spiders. Time to call a professional .........

A local pest co can spray your home for very little cost some stuff they use now is pet safe. I know because I ask for it since I have dog and shes always getting into something that doesn't belong to her.
My home gets done every 3 months..I rarely see any form of bug/spyder. Its always a nice safty blanket..

Don't mess around with the lil bastages, get some professional help. The money you save on medical bills if you get bitten will be worth it. Not to mention the pain and injury.

i just got over a bite.. i was bitten on the upper backside or my leg.. i guess i must have rolled over on it while sleeping.. the army doctors told me that 90% of bites normally heal on their own without scarring.. my bite got huge and so painfull that i couldnt sit down without sitting on a pillow.. no fun.. i live in kentucky and they are everywhere.. the locals down here dont pay them much mind. was told that if i find wolf spiders in my garage not to kill them because they hunt the recluse. a good way to find out if you are sharing your house, get a bowl of water (dont fill too high, just a tad).. then place the bowl somewhere in a room that doesnt get much attention like a closet, under the bed, next to entertainment center... the recluse with go to the bowl for a drink, slide in, get wet and wont be able to get out and then they will drown.. thats how i caught my specimen to take with me to the doctors.

Brown recluse spiders can indeed kill you or rot big holes in your body, but it does not usually happen. We have them all over the place here at my house; I killed one on a bag of concrete in my storage shed a few days ago.(I never killed any inside the house, but I'm sure they are here) What I hate is all the Black Widows, I saw the biggest danged Black Widow here in Arkansas that I have ever seen anywhere, it was the size of a Tarantula & was living inside of a cable pedestal I was working in. I used my propane torch to light the web in an attempt to kill it so I could finish my work, ha....babies went running everywhere. I just left the ped open & came back with bug spray & soaked it down; I was feeling stuff that wasn't there crawling on me the entire time I was working in that darned thing. :(
The D/C voltage theory for destroying venom was first used because of a rattlesnake bite & was subsequently tested by M.D.'s & was found to do nothing but give an electrical shock to an already poisoned person according to an outdoor life article I read; might be reliable, might not.

ha ha ha... i read about something like that too... man got bitten by recluse and then applied the whole wives tale that electric will neutralize the venom... he used a stun gun... not only is he suffering with a spider bite but add some burns on top of that.. ha ha ha... here's your sign..

Black Widows are just evil looking. They are the only spider that really puts a chill down my spine whenever I see one.
We have them all over the place in Arizona.
The only good thing about them is that they tend to stay in their webs, and do not just roam around your house or crawl into your bed.
Their webs are extremely strong. They can withstand a full blast from a garden hose nozzle.
I've walked face-first into a few webs.......and they are very noticeable ..... sticky, very stong. Just creepy to walk through one knowing that you may have wrapped a black widow around your face, encased in it's web.
And they can get pretty big.

Got bit by one and it put me down for a week.Rotted a hole on my chest the size of a half dollar." kill em,kill em all"

Yea, but you can`t get very many steaks from a spider.
