Mk VII's originally had pointed wing tips, but these were removed by D-Day as high alt work was no longer needed.
The VIII has the correct shape, weapons, and retractible tailwheel the VII had, only thing different is the motor, Merlin 70 in the VII, Merlin 66 in the VIII.

What's the spot on the nose 1/3 from the canopy to the prop?
Other than that I don't see any flaws. The anti-slip spot is kind of out of place, but I take it the surface was prepped for performance, possibly polished, and they wanted to keep it clean?

Spot on the upper nose I assume - Location of the hole in the panel to access filler cap.
Anti slip - Yup looks weird but it's visible on the pics.
Don't think they were polished, when first introduced in 1942 they had a service ceiling of over 40,000ft, a top speed of 408mph, and a great climb at extremely high alts.
By D-Day high alt fighting had all but ended for the RAF, hence the removal of the extended wing-tips on VII's.
