Building a PC is cake, there are lots of guides on the net.  Keep everything clean, and do everything slowly and one step at a time.

if you can assemble a model .. do general mechanical  stuff ... you can build a pc .
the hard part is chosing the best parts and trying to save $$$.

Roscoroo,

Totally. Much like links in a chain, your computer will only be as good as its cruddiest part.

There are a lot of tech sites like anandtech.com, tomshardware.com, hardocp.com that give good reviews and recommendations.

I personally like newegg.com for components, their prices are great, they ship quickly, they allow community reviews of products, and they have a lot of specials.

I myself spend alot of time at the amd forums .... (and once and a while in the intel ones.... )

http://forums.amd.com/ (http://forums.amd.com/)

anandtech is a really good site , better then toms IMRO (in my roo opinion)
Toms is intel biased to often ..

i also freq the OC forums and alot of the tech articals and have 2 sub's to mags

with game flux between the different pc's its kinda hard to say whats best at the moment .. i'm shure if ya ask the guys here will post what combo is working for them ..

my 2500+ barton machine still plays great but lacks the hi res pack .

my 3500+ 64 bit pc plays the hires  nicely but really has no improvement over that ... pritty close to the same fps at the moment  between the 2 ...

as for buying parts i like to support the small shops in my area .. only if they price match the mailorder ones or close to it . or i go hit frys /ebay for the other stuff ... for used theres also craigslist.org  (I fix up pc's for needy families in my spare time ... ive done 6 this yr so far ...im ahead by 1 already )

for the guys that can hang on ... and if they get rushed into releasing vista and with the newest stuff comming out  ,,, there gonna be another pricedrop after  the initial big buck bang.  i think vista will hit 2007 even though  its not ready    but then neither was XP when it came out .
