Title: Chimay
Post by: Heretic on June 17, 2006, 12:07:54 PM
Has anyone been able to find Chimay in the USA?      I was in Italy back in 89' and got turned on to the stuff.   We were there for cold weather training while I was with the 82nd ABN.

Chimay, to me has to be the best tasting beer I have ever had.    I'm quite sure there are other tasty beers similar to Chimay, but I have not has them.

Just one last question.     Why is our American beer so lousy?   Well, some of the microbrews are pretty good, but in general American beers are pizz.  The only good  domestic I can think of Samuel Adams.

Yeah chimay is available in the US, not cheap though, like 8$ a quart. Fantastic ale, put it in a cool place in your basement and let it age and it get's even better.

I think the problem with beer in the states is that somehow, sometime in our history beer stopped being food and became a vice, a way to get high. So taste became secondary to economics and efficiency.

I heard they now produce Chimay in the US. Dunno if this is accurate.

Try Orval, Leffe, Gaumaise and Grimbergen.

Looks like one of you has found some good weed at least ;)

I knew that rpm, but since Interbrew merged with a south american company, it'll happen. As long as you don't make any choklit flavoured Chimay, I''m ok with it :D

Haha! You said centiliter.

I checked the bottle, it's actually 750ml, roughly 1.5 quarts. Or as they say on the periphery of the empire 75cl.

:p

I'm pretty sure nobody makes Chimay here in the states. In these wonderous times all good beers of the world are available in the US.

Name a european beer, I bet I can find it within 30k of my apartment.

Your right, the real budweiser is a czech pislner Budweiser Budvar. They're not allowed to sell it in the US, and the rice malt Busch Budwieser cannot be sold in CZ even if it was beer.

However, the version of the cz pilsner sold in the us is just called Budvar if I remember correctly, they dropped the "budweiser" part of the name on their US export product, and they do sell it at my local grocery store.

I've never heard of Pripps, I'll have to check the beer store for it. If I can't find it there I'll see if I can order it.

But there are Trappist Abbeys in the US. New Gethsemane and New Mallory come to mind immediately, as does the women's house Our Lady of the Mississippi.
