Who introduced the first mass production overhead valve engine in the US.

My guess would be a Cadillac V8... I don't have the year though... was sometime in the late 40's.. me thinks 49.

Very close DejaVu.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) 1949 Oldsmobile. Because of that Old's motors were actually the first hot rod motors. If you see a picture of an early 50's hot rod with an over head valve V8 in it you would be very safe to bet it was an Olds. Caddy's were used to of course. I think Cadillac came out with there's later the same year or the next. The more I think about it. Olds may have been 1948. Chevy's came out in 1955.

Oh BTW the Doctor comment was alluding to Dr. Oldsmobile if you remember the adds.

I believe they put them in both GM products Jimdandy.  I found a Cadillac web site (http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/track/2582/cadillac/cadindex.html) with some history that claims the first High-compression overhead valve V8.

Think before the "big 3" even.

A certain company (that was bought out soon after the big three went on their buying sprees) mass produced it's car with a 6 cylinder SOHC that remained production for several years in the high end market until petering out....
