Title: Ki84 ord load out
Post by: FTJR on June 20, 2006, 05:21:44 AM
Not sure if this is the right forum. But can we please have the option to load a bomb and drop on the Ki84 please.

Hmm I have a photo of one, but it seems I cant attach the image.

Oh well the bomb hangs off the right wing.

Regards

I think the requirement is that it had to be a standard, or wide-spread loadout. For example P38s had custom (non-standard) shackles added to their wings to carry 6 bombs. We're not going to get that in AH because it wasn't the regular setup.

Perhaps this mixed setup wasn't very common on the Ki84?

You could be right Krusty, but my book makes no mention of them being non-standard.

We can carry either 2 bombs or 2 drops, so I dont see the problem of having one of each, since the shackles are there already. But if it was not considered common. well :) HT only knows.

The one bomb, one drop tank was commonly used on the Ki-84 from what I have read.  Enough for pilots to mention the difficulties with it.

Cool

I personally don't use mixed loads like that (if I bomb I want 2 bombs, if I want range I want 2 DTs, if I want 1 DT I drop the other), but it would be cool to see it as an option in-game

I agree in the context of AH, which is why I never agitated for it.

The Japanese used it because of the long distances to the targets often precluded carrying two bombs.

I will also say that the idea of flying long distances over the ocean in the historical Ki-84 would not fill me with confidence.  One, unreliable engine between you and sleeping with the fishes.....

You know the chicks would dig this ride.

Doesn't much matter what they would dig as that ride was intended to be used on a one way trip.....

No ride is intended for a 1-way trip :)

Sometimes they were used in that manner, but never "intended" -- otherwise it wouldn't have guns, armor, controls, one of the strongest engines the Japenes could construct at the time, etc etc... :)

But I digress.

The original post wasn't in relation to that skin.

Back on topic: How common was this mixed ord load? Just one group? Lotsa groups? All groups at one time or another? If we got a case we should suggest it to HTC. Should be easy enough to include (just take the code for the hog, or some other plane that already has it, and put the same code in the Ki)

Title: Mixed Ord Really Necessary?
Post by: EagleDNY on June 27, 2006, 09:06:33 PM
I fly the Ki-84 pretty regularly - frankly, I think it is one of the most under-rated and lethal rides you can take.  In a Ki-84, I don't fear taking on anything - rides that are faster than me can't turn as well, and none of the uber-turners can match my speed.  Good climb rate, and the cannon package is sufficient.

I've killed La7s, Spits, Nikis, F4Us, 190s, Ar234s, Bombers, etc. etc. etc. in the Ki, nothing is beyond the realm of possibility in this really nice ride, and anyone that takes you on in one has to worry about you suddenly turning the tables on him.

I haven't actually found the need to take drop tanks - the range is good on full fuel (especially if you throttle back a bit to cruise setting).  Since I'm stuck with 250Kg bombs anyway, I'd rather keep 2 instead of trading for a drop tank.

:rofl :rofl :lol :lol

Back on topic: DTs are good if you want to take average amounts of fuel and still go a long way. It could be a while before you meet an enemy con, you never know. Take the DTs and 25%-50% internal, then drop the DTs when you engage. It will leave you lighter and able to out-climb those spixteens better.

I can see loading up 25% internal and taking drop tanks so that you can be nimble when you engage enemy fighters - I've done that too.  But if you're going furballing and taking a mixed ord load, you'd end up dropping your bomb anyway.

With all the things they have to work on, I'd still have to put the ki-84 mixed ord WAY down the list of things I'd like to see done.
