Tragically , this Sunday, while returning from a visit to my dad for fathers day, my mother and brother were involved in a violent head on collision, which took my mothers life instantly and left my brother severely injured. I’m not posting for the sadness of it all, but to just tell you a bit about my mom.
This will help and by taking a minute or so to read this , you’re helping me cope, and for that I thank you all to no end, , my virtual friends.
My mother was born June 8, 1934 Mary June Frost in Edmonton , Alberta, Canada. She had a jawbone defect that gave her a speech impediment, but that never stopped her from talking up a storm J Years of surgery fixed that and she went on to lead the debate team.
Not much could stop her.
During WW2, she was a platform girl. These were school kids who passed out chocolate and cigarettes to soldiers on trains , bound for the horrors of war. She often told me, that, that was one of the tasks she was most proud of.
She paid her way into nursing college by winning art contests, she was a great artist. She kept herself in college by picking tobacco. After graduating she came to Montreal and started working at Ste.Mary’s Hospital, where she worked for 45 years.
Her achievements at that hospital are too numerous to mention here, but I’m most proud of her returning to McGill University at 45, to get a degree in hospital management. Years later McGill would award her a fellowship. She really was a story of working your way to the top. She retired a few years ago as head of 5 dept.s and assistant nursing director, quite good for a small prairie girl.
She will be dearly missed by many.
Bt this shouldn’t be all sad, I will celebrate her life, while mourning the loss. So on that note, some of her art work is below, sorry for the quality of the pics, I am a bit shaky.
In closing I want to thank you for taking the time to know my mom, you would’ve liked her, she had quite the sense of humour . You’ve helped me by reading this, thank you all so much, I mean that, .
Maybe do me one more favour, give your moms a call and say hi , will ya., thanks again.
Andrew

Andrew,
It sounds like she was an amazing woman and a wonderful Mother, I know she will be missed. I lost my Mother when I was 14 and my Father when I was 27, I know how hard it can be.
Her artwork looks wonderful and you can see she had a passion for it.

I lost my mother earlier this month. I feel your pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
-
In all honesty I think that Your Moms artwork is truly fantastic, she was a very talented woman, her paintings display both a high degree of skill and the ability to capture the natural beauty of a landscape. ( I love the one with the mountain goat)
She sounds like she was a exceptional mother and person that put her responsibilities before her desires. I am pretty sure that had I known her I would have found her someone to both respect and admire.
Give your brother my best wish’s I hope he has a quick recovery…
Take care of yourself Andrew.

Airbumba, I only wish i had a mother it sounds like you had you were very lucky and i think you know that. My mother has pretty much nothing to do with me or my brother. You have lost what i have always wanted........my prayers are with you and your family i am very sorry.
-
Im very sorry Airbumba. She was a fantastic artist, and sounds like a great woman and mother. I lost my grandmother a few years back. It was rough. The greif comes in waves, hit me all at once then passed. Eventually
it got better. But it takes time.
Again..her artwork, and the texture and depth she could portay are some of the best Ive seen.
-
Each of us will be fortunate if, when our turn comes, we have someone who loves us write such a fine summary of our lives.
Hang in there.

Your mother led a corageous and fulfilling life - remember that and celebrate it for her - she was a lucky - through her own toughness - person.
You sir, - if you picked up half of her strength and by example -of how to live life - are a lucky man - not many people are fortunate enough to have good role models on how to live life to the fullest - Thank whoever you believe in, be it God or whatever, for giving you the gift of your mother for the time you had together, people that I have known through my life that have artistic talents like your mother had, can express their feelings openly and can share their love with others easily, your expression of love in this post was inspiring, I commend you for that.
I am sure that your mother's thoughts are with your brother, I personally like to believe that her soul is in a better place than on earth right now, that her thoughts are with your brother, I personally like to believe that she would wish for you and your family not to greive her passing, but celebrate her accomplishments, which as you have shown, were many,
my thoughts are with you, my prayers are for your brother..

AB take strength in your mom and your loss. I lost my lady of 34 years to a 12 year battle with breast cancer on Sunday also.
As with my wife, your mom filled your world with her presence. You are blessed in that.
Though difficult, have a smile for the goodtimes. The journey is worth it.
All the best,
Chris

So sorry to hear of this tragedy.
and your family will be in my family's prayers.
-
Truly sorry to hear this Bumba. I will pray for your family buddy.
-
it is believed that the loss of ones parents is the first step into emotional maturity.
no matter what age you are.
the only thing that you need is to know that your mother lived well (which it is apparent she did) and died accomplished. and you are now ready to take the rest of life on your own.
this is one of the hardest obstacles you will ever have to face. i know you and your brother will honor the death of your mother by staying strong and remembering her.
i do not know you but as a fellow human being i understand the loss as i have lost my father, and i pain that anyone has to feel this, even though it is a necessary part of human growth.
my deepest and most sincere condolences and sympathy my friend.
sure this is just some text on the internet but just remember somone in seattle wrote it sitting behind his computer desk. recognizing that ur mother was a great woman.

Sorry for the dealy in responding.
All I can say is , wow. I'm overwhelmed and humbled by the well wishes and kind words. I told my brothers Aviation lovers are the most tactfull and well rounded folks on the planet, and after reading the touching, supportive and heart felt reasponses given by the AH community, they had to agree. WTG AH'rs .
My brother will recover, how well, and to what extent, is yet to be seen, but undoubtedly your thoughts have helped and will continue to do so.
I want to say, if anyone had any doubts that the little world we call the AH community is only of a virtual nature, I just want to stand testament to the fact that my recent pain was all too real, and , thankfully, so were your supportive words. Behind each response was a living , breathing , person who took the time to both send supportive words and to share stories of their moms, that my friends is about as far away from virtual as u can get.
We have something special here friends, lets keep it that way.
Thank you all again for learning about my mom, you have made things all that much easier for me, hopefully not sounding selfish.
I wish all of you and your families all the best wishes of peace and caring, I can't thank you all enough, The biggest ever.
Andrew
