In the spirit of these beauty posts Jim has been putting up:
The GTO came about from which Pontiac designer playing around in his spare time with what model of car? What did this man build after he left Pontiac that made him famous among classic car collectors?
-
<sniff> no one bit.
Well, the answer is coming if no-one posts soon

John Deloren.
He was hired by GM and designed the 69 thru 72 grand prix body style.
Was it him?

John Delorean was the correct answer.
The second part is somewhat subjective... but I do believe he is refering to the the "Delorean" by DMC.
BTW, DMC is supposed to be releasing an all plastic car with incredible hp to weight ratio. Haven't seen a pic of it yet, however.

WooHoo John Deloren was indeed the man!
He was working for Pontiac's design team in 1962 when they came out with the undepowered pathetic 6 cyl economy model called the Tempest. Being a naturally creative fellow he looked at the big 396 3x2 barrel big block pontiac being used for their biggest cars.. and then at that 3200lb Tempest... and the rest, as they say, was Muscle City history. He built the Car in the Pontiac design building in Detroit and employees used to sign it out to go drag racing in the streets for money. After Fistfights broke out over who got the car next his car was given out as a one off test production concept. They became so insanely popular the GTO was one of the first full production Muscle cars of the sixties.
And yes- the DMC Delorean made him a collectors favorite.
Deja-Vu is there anywhere I can find out information on this new DMC car? sounds like a high powered Saturn to me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

It does not look like DMC has an active web page yet. I just stumbled across several references on the Delorean collector sites. Like I said, I haven't seen a picture yet.
