Congratulations, when should the folks in Dallas start to stay off the roads?  (When do you get your license?)

Congratulations!

I'm just going to say that I got my license at 16, my first car at 17 and my last of six car wrecks (for my lifetime) at the age of 20.

Keep your wits about you and if you're in a hurry, **** happens.

Speaking of which, what part of Dallas? I shudder just thinking about Dallas traffic. I've been driving for countless years and I still hate to drive in Dallas.

That sucks, I got my car when I was 15 so I got to learn in it so it wasn't a totally new experience.

It's fun how they do licenses now isn't it?  A 4X12 inch sheet of paper, then they mail the license...  Drive safe!

87!!!!!!!

No offence... new driver seeing how fast he can go is Darwinism in action.  Although i do remember doing exactly the same thing in my first car.  A 1 litre 4 speed Rover Mini.  I managed to get it off the end of the speedo (which i think was 80 or 90) with a little bit of a hill :D

What do you need new tires for? tread on yours worn or something?

Oh my first car could beat that, it was a 1976 Plymouth Fury, I got it when I was 16 and had it till I got married., It ran great even though it was really old until my exhusband decided to play dukes of hazzard with it.

Sounds like the Garden state parkway

Frequent drivers of the GSP have a name for NASCAR drivers here.

They call em "Amatures"

Agreed.
Raider, I'll tell you like I told my son.
Just because you just got your licence
Dont live by the delusion, and it IS a delusion, that you have either the experiance or the skill to play racecar on public roads.
You dont.

The life you save may not only be your own. But someone elses.
And getting yourself killed because you decided to play hotshot showoff would displease me greatly
Not to mention your mother

No. The mere thought of a "safety inspection" would cause mass hysteria.

Every 2 years in RI. Have to pass emissions and safety inspections.

I didn't know there were states without a basic safety inspection.

The only inspections we do regularly in California is for emissions. I've heard there are some states and maybe some countries that have random roadside safety inspections.

Ok I got it now .

It's not ok to slowly kill people with emissions.....but its perfectly alright to do it because brakes failed and you couldn't stop.

Texas requires an annual safety inspection. There was a push to do away with it a few years ago but it came to naught.

LOL and if you had lunch with me today in the place I had lunch with the people I had lunch with
You would be convinced it was true too. LMAO

I have never been around so many Itallians in my entire life
I felt like I was in the middle of a "Sopranos/Godfather/Goodfellas/A Bronx Tale" movie

All that was missing was Lucca Brazzi walking through the door.

Oh and as much as Southerners know how to BBQ. Itallians know how to eat. Good god do they know how to eat!

"Lunch" started at 2:00 and from that moment on it was nonstop course after course after course of food and finally ended at 6:30.

I dont think I'm going to need to eat again for the rest of the week

Depending on how old your car is is how often you need your car inspected here.

Brand new cars dont need to be inspoected for like 3-4 years. then every other year. Old old cars I think of 10+ years have to be inspected yearly I think.

We have roadside inspections where they set it up and stop any car whos inspection sticker is either due or more commonly overdue.
Then they inspect it and give you a ticket for not inspecting it.

They choose cool little places to have these things too. Like a two lane road around a bend in the road where you dont see it there till its too late and there is no place to turn around.

One of the radio stations here will announce this (and roadside seatbelt checks) form of entrapment on the air if you come across one and call it in.

I havent been caught in either myself but I call in more then a few every year.

If it saves just one person from this form of extortion. Its worth it.
:aok

You've got a roof don't you?:D

Seriously, you should probably be able to find some space under the hood to hook it up, one of your elders can probably help you if you have questions.  Just look for a more compact one, and be ready to spend some money:aok

Ditto on the money...youll be looking at 200+ and 200 is lowballing it.  For your uses you would probably have more fun with a PA system.  Beware of violent road rage though.
