Title: IL-2 F3 view and Mossie Lack of Same?
Post by: Warspawn on June 25, 2006, 10:19:45 PM
Quick question here...

Why doesn't the Mossie have external view enabled, while other planes like the A20 and IL-2 (especially...) have theirs available?  I heard they were re-evaluating having externals views in attack planes, but don't know if anything was decided...

Thanks for any news or opinions on this!

The F3 view mode is usually on planes that have a gunner and are a bomber. The mossie and 110 do not have this because they are a lot like a fighter and having a complete 360 view would give them an advantage.

ah, ok...

Didn't know how much an advantage having F3 would be for an IL-2 then; I see them used in base defense quite a bit.  Perhaps them having this advantage in a furball is the reason one sees so many?  That and the 23mm's, of course ;)

The 110 has a gunner , and the mossie has a bomb bay.

Soooo still not sure on why.

Mosquito: Fighter/Attacker
Bf 110G-2: Fighter/Attacker
IL-2 Type 3: Bomber/Attacker

That also ties in with the Arena Settings. Go offline and to the arena settings, then open up "ViewModeFlags" (it should be the last one) and tinker with it. If you let bombers have ext views, then everything that can be score as a bomber has F3 view. :aok

F3 view is to simulate having multiple crew members on a plane, so like stigma said its' only on planes with gunners.

I wonder though, if they'll change it, especially in regards to the IL-2.  Remember when people were 'gaming the game' with flakstars on the runway?  B-17's rolled and stopped on the ground with gunners shooting after we de-acked and started capping.

If a plane is going to be used in air-to-air mode, much like we see IL-2's launching to provide air defense, one would think think that external views would be disabled.

Or, if it's to simulate gunners relaying info, enable it for the 110's.

I understand about being able to score bomber points being a factor for F3 decision, and it's no major issue.  Just wondered why certain planes had it and others didn't.  Thanks for clearing that up!  Maybe all 'multi-crewperson' planes should have the ability?  To simulate multiple eyes scanning?  Dunno...

see link below.............. IMO we should have a pure attack category

Very good idea Tilt!  I knew I'd seen the idea around somewhere.  I've seen that before and it makes sense.  Bomber points should be scored for level bombers with a bombsite, not IL-2's and JU-87's.  Those should be scored and used as Jabos.

HEY!

This also helps to reduce the suicide buff formation dive bomb attacks on CV's!

Bombs only from bombadier position on buffs.  Longer arming fuse (5000' or so?  How long would it take for those little spinners on the nose of 2000 lb bombs to spin off?  One would definately want several football fields between them and your aircraft when they went boom!).  This doesn't look all that difficult to implement.

I hope they put it in!  Then I won't have to hear how much skill it took those Lanc's to suicide dive-bomb a CV (seriously, over 200 one person said that level-bombing was lame and that it took skill to kill a carrier by dive bombing it with a buff formation...)

Whoever said level bombing a CV is lame must not have done it from 20K. It's allot harder from that altitude unless you know what your doing. It's taken me over a year to get it right but I can do it 90% of the time now with no problem, and then land the kill. Dive bombing buffs is what's lame, but to each their own I suppose.
