Title: RAZR V3M.. anybody have one?
Post by: APDrone on June 27, 2006, 10:16:37 PM
Picked up one of these bad boys last week.  I've been trying to get the drivers that came with the Music Essentials package to get my computer and the phone to talk to each other.  Not having any luck.  I don't know if the drivers are simply not the correct ones, even though all the boxes and programs say they are for the V3M.

Everytime I try to plug the phone in ( after installing the usb drivers ) it claims it cannot find the software for the hardware.  It looks like it thinks the phone is a V3C.. which doesn't have music support and would explain why the drivers don't work.  All the stickers on the phone seem to indicate it IS a V3M.

Took it back with my laptop to the dealer tonight, tried a new kit, swapped phones, and tried hooking up a separate one.  Nothing worked.

One of the big tech guys is supposed to call me tomorrow.  I'm just trying to get music downloaded to it.

I'm just wondering if anybody else out there had the V3M and are able to use the V-cast music functionality by copying tunes from the computer to the phone.

Hey AP, I got the same thing.

I like the phone, sleek, slender, lighter and more stylish. I also get better signal and I like the brightness.

As for the music, I too am having the same problem.

You are supposed to install the drivers first, then WMP10 (this is where a problem comes into play for me), then able to plug and go with your phone.

My problem is that I already have WMP10, but Verizon CD wants to install it again, resulting in something a problem with moving my licenses. Tried rolling back WMP back to 9, then doing over, same problem.

Aside from that, you can sign up with Verizon's music download program for like 15 bucks a month for unlimited downloads, which can go directly to the phone. I may try this.

I'm sure this didn't help, but you aren't alone. PM me sometime on your progress because I love the phone and I want the music aspect of it to work!

You should have got the SLVR, iTunes works like a champ and no need for WMP10 at all :D

I have that phone but don't have any of the v cast stuff.... I bought it for the navigator.   It really is a good gps navigation device.   Good turn by turn voice navigation.   I really don't want music on my cell phone.

Music on your cellphone avoids you to carry an extra Ipod clone. I don't download mine with the phone, I put it on a 2GB SD card.

why would anyone carry around an ipod or it's clone?  Why would you need to fill every moment with music?

In my case, I land at 8 am, take off between 6pm to 8pm. That's about 10 hours of being on a FBO's couch in Smalltownamerica deserted airport... 4 to 5 times a week.

I believe that occasional music is the difference between sanity and a shotgun rampage.

I'm sure many people don't have to fill "every moment" with music, but occasional access to music provides an opportunity to enhance your daily routine. Not everyone follows the routine "leave home, drive, work, drive, welcome home", some have "I have to wait here" in between.

That is why I take a book or magazine with me most times that I go anywhere.

On the other hand... I have seldom been bored except at work... I can allways find something interesting to do if I have time.

Maybe it's just me but I would rather read than listen to music.

Ok,  found a website that has a forum discussion about this issue.
( Thanks RTSigma for pointing me in the right direction! )

Yup, looks likes Verizon shipped a slew of 'Music Essential' kits that had bad or missing software.

The driver for the V3M isn't part of it, even though the box says it is. Something about kits shipped with black and silver headphones are bad, but blue and silver headphones are good.

Now, the intriguing thing is that you can jump through some hoops and get the phone to act like an external music device and you can download the music to it, but you still can't get the full integration of the phone features until the bug is fixed.

Blew the techies' minds at the Verizon store when I waltzed in there with some forum printouts and got the interface working on my laptop while they were watching.. hehehehe. They had no clue there was even a problem.

Thanks again for the help RT!

No problem AP! I'm glad I finally got mine working. I don't mind tinkering to get it working, as long as it works!

Now my next problem...the headphones suck!

My wife HAD one.  But before we could even try and put music on it she sat in the waves at the beach and only realised a few minutes later it was in her pocket.UGH.

CELL PHONES DON'T NEED MUSIC ON THEM!

The friggin ringtones are bad enough.

LOL, Reschke..

The idea is that this phone should be able to interface with Outlook, also.. so instead of it just being a phone, it can act as a PDA. The key, of course, is to get the bloody thing to chat with the host computer.  That was the initial problem that was discovered when I went about trying to do download music.

With the availability of those itty-bitty 1GB memory cards ( egad!.. as I glance at the stack of discarded WD 340MB drives collecting dust on a bookshelf ) the flexibility to use the phone as a music machine, photo gallery, ( 1.3 MP.. not great, but good enough for a lot of impromptu stuff ) planner, and address book is pretty impressive.

Anyway, if you're ever in the area, I'll be sure to put the ringer on 'vibrate'.

At least until I load 'Take this job and shove it' as my ringtone.. :t

how hard would it be to kick butt on a music zombie?  I just got to be careful not to get bit.
