Title: Clean up the forum - a request to the community
Post by: Panzzer on June 28, 2006, 06:34:44 PM
This forum ain't too hard to find... Community, Forum? If I would be interested in the best Aerial Combat of WWII that current games have to offer, I'd soon be repelled away by reading the general discussion. :(

We need more of the positive posts, less whining.

This current BBS is just for the people already playing, we do have to get this a bit more friendly for all the new people to start playing this game we all love.

So stop your whining, enjoy what you have. :aok  (<-- must be one of the first, I don't think I've used that one before!)

Don't say l33t, n00b, in, w00t!, and what ever you might think, this is a public arena, even for the people who ain't p(l)aying yet.

Please, keep it civil!. :) (hehe, I do remind meself of the South Park tune... instead of .. .. etc.)

Why I'm still in AH, I'm having fun fighting the "good guys" - err, do I mean the "bad guys" - no I don't - I know some of the opposing pilots better than I do the ones flying for "my" country. The community is what makes the AH experience so great, for some reason it doesn't seem to be that way when reading the general discussion.

Just my opinion, I'm sure there will be guys "IN" here disagreeing with me... :(

folks, see you in the Main, AvA or SEA, I hope you enjoy your AH-time. I know I do! :D

edited for some basic grammary

I have five locked threads in my window at this moment, I'd wager there are 80+ edited posts in violation of rule #n. I shudder to think how much it is costing HTC (and us) to have the GDF policed so heavilly. If we could keep things civil even while we argue there would not be such a need to the nanny-state.

Hug back at you Panzzer. Thank you, I be making it. My wittle guys are still here and these boards have been very helpful in what I need.

This board is filled with tards.

I'm a tard.

Skuzzy and Co. seem to keep all of the more inflamatory and profane messages under wraps.  I personally think allowing MORE profanity and MORE abuse would be a better draw, but that's only me...

This has nothing to do with PC (political correctness) and everything to do with respect.  You chose not to respect the forum rules, then please just stay off the board.

People may or may not make the decision whether to subscribe or not, based on the bulletin board.  One thing is for sure.  Many of them will simply not participate in the bulletin board if they feel all they are going to get is disrespect for doing so.

Disrepectful behavior is not acceptable.  If you think it is, then you do not belong on this board and it would be appreciated if you kindly leave.  Although, if you are for disrepectful behavior, I suspect that request not to be honored.

Many other forums call it "IBTL".

Meaning In Before The Lock, or "I'm cool enough to show I was here before the mods loosed the hammer".

do other forums actually have mods that lock threads? the very few i have frequented in the past let anything go, i never saw a lock or deleted thread... though i did see a banned or disgrased person occasionally

It depends on the forums, I am on ar15.com fairly often and they allow any language ever imagined to be used but will lock thread that are off-topic or whatever. I am on some others that will lock or even delete threads that discuss how to bypass copyrights or execute hacking techniques.

This forum is without a doubt the most heavilly policed of any I've ever seen though.

Agreed.  I frequent quite a few and the only things I've seen done are REALLY inflammatory posts deleted entirely.  I've never seen a place that edits parts of posts, then leaves the thread there.  Then again, I understand that this forum is designed to be used by players of a video game, and these players could be munchkins, so we has to watch our languageseses, precious...

Check out the forums on the Rome Total Realism website...  They won't even HEAR certain topics in their off topic forum...  Gay marriage?  Guns?  Abortion?  OH **** NO! They just say "this has been discussed at length and we don't feel like policing it again."

"Useless" posts such as:

:D

Are thrown out as well.  This one isn't bad at all.  At least they let us have a sense of community (with all the different characters) and to discuss certain topics over and over again so long as we are reasonably civil.

That last part is so true Vudak.  Modicum of respect, and keeping it civil.

I would be very happy to never have to moderate another post or thread.  I know it is a nice dream and will probably never happen, but it would be nice.

I sort of saddened that I could read that intardnet slang too.

More on topic, I wish people would read what is written instead of going off on a tangent of intentionally ignoring the written words in a post or thread, I hate to steal movie lines but it applies to intardnet forums, these forums inparticular for some reason; "it's like playing cards with my sisters kids for Christs sake"

I can stomach avatars with boobs, curse words, disagreements or heated discussions, slang like what was posted above...pretty much everything the intardnet has to offer, but when someone twists the plain meaning of a post, or outright ignores the body of it & pulls out one word here & there to build a arguement is irritating.

I see it more often in the O' club than general discussion, but it still gets under my skin. No hugs needed, no banning certain phrases or words, just be english reading, writing & comprehending adults & a lot of forum troubles would never appear in the first place. I think the intardnet geeks call what I am talking about - flaming, flame baiting & trolling etc. I always thought flaming was what the stars of queer eye for the straight guy were, then I discovered there are a fair number of stick drivers here too when I got muted for telling a squaddie of mine someone was acting like a "studmuffin" on 200, I then got chewed out by who I assume was the stick driving mod.

Basically just assume the people you're talking to on these forums are offended by anything & everything & try to handle everyone with kid gloves.

Oh but I wasn't talking about this thread, but the General Discussion forum in a broader sense. People seem to be winded up too tight, this is a game, after all. And games should be fun, at least to my knowledge...

Thanks HTC, I love the game. :)

Uh, next time I get an urge to make the world (in this case this BBS) a better place, I think I'll turn off my computer instead of writing a post about it in here.

It's weekend now, I'll go get a beer and lighten up. Cheers all.
