Ever since AH1 and over 3 different computer system AH loves to lock up and crash the cpu randomly. The last time i sent in a dxdiag i was told to upgrade my sound and vid drivers. I did that and no fix so i ended up cancelling my account after no solution was offered. Well im back and its the same 'ole stuff. So upgrading divers doesnt fix it. Building a new pc dont fix it either. HMMMMM what could it be? Im not seeing and net spikes or taking any net hits at the time. It like the game waits for me to get in a perked vehicle and then crashes, but not always its random.
I had 36 kills in a tiger today and was almost on top on the base to land em and CRASH...wrongfully down 58 perks! FORGET flying a jet cause it always seems to happen in a jet.
Ever since the latest patches my framerate has been cut in half and the crashing has gotten worse.
Note: I play a few other MMOGs and have ZERO problems playing...even if i play 16 hours a day. Games like World of Warcraft, EVE online, DDO all of which have alot better graphics and give me no trouble.
This problem is really annoying and id like to get it solved before i have to cancel my account. AH is fun but the crashing and framerate hits are not.
i will post a dxdiag if needed.

Yes, post that dxdiag.
Also, describe the crashes. Are they random? Anything you DO everytime it crashes (like keying vox or such)? Is it always the same plane you in? When you upgraded, were there old parts you used again (like headset)? Power supply strong enough? AV/firewall? Heat?
Also, try switching back to default settings (ie backup, then delete settings folder). I had random crashes in the past, it turned out to be the "use wave in" setting in voice options).
-
I have the same problem and i have narrowed it down:
I CANNOT do the following things:
1. Fly an aircraft
2. Fire aircraft primary guns
3. Fire aircraft secondary guns
4. Fire torpedoes from an aircraft
5. Drop bombs from an aircraft
6. Open the map
7. Enlarge the chat box
8. Activate VOX and manipulate any other control
9. Press two buttons at once
10. Manipulate two controls at once
11. Drive a PT boat
12. Take screenshots (the shots come out all black)
I do CAN the following things:
1. Act as a turret gunner in a ground vehicle
2. Drive a ground vehicle
I have not tried the following/do not have conclusive results to the following:
1. Acting as turret gunner in an aircraft
-
Most of the things you list Reynolds sounds like command mapping issues. Are you using a stick or a mouse?
The ability to select secondary weapons (bombs, rockets....) depends on a key or button to select those secondary weapons. Is the "Select secondary weapon" command mapped to anything?
Firing guns (primary weapon) requires the command to be mapped as well to fire the guns.
The screenshot issue could be video card or driver related. Some video cards and/or drivers do not support the DirectX function which allows copying from the frame buffer to system RAM.
Need more information to make any determinations here. But it seems the largest portions of your list are all command mapping related.
---
GravPirate, better graphics do not mean much. That is just artwork. Artwork does not really stress a video card/computer much short of using up a lot of resources. Email me the DXDIAG output and let's start from there.
-
Its not that it doesnt work. If i do those things, its does them too. And about a second after it complies the game freezes, and the computer crashes.
-
Send in the output of DXDIAG. Let's take a look.
-
Is this it?

3 things.
1. Memory: not enough. 1mb is good.
2. Video Card. You need a new one. (Dependant on if you jhave a slot to put it in.)
3. Sound Card. You need a new one.
-
Which one is free and will make it not crash. I dont care about quality, i just wanna fly!
-
The VIA/S3G video chip is not up to the task. If the hardware vertex processing option is checked in the game video settings, uncheck it and try again.
However, it will never perform well. Onboard video chips are not designed to run real-time 3D graphics well, if at all.

Also, I notice you have Service Pack 1 Reynolds, might want to ask if you can upgrade that to Service Pack 2.
Check first though, it may have some unwanted effects.

Shouldnt be using that new driver in the 9800 video card. The newer drivers will make the older cards crash alot of times. Use the 4.12 cats.
-
Snuffy, something has gotten corrupted in your operating installation.
Check the error from DXDIAG:
DirectX Files Tab: The file system.dll is missing! You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version.
That is not good.

Is this better??????????????????

You loaded the latest Catalyst drivers. Which means you also loaded and activated .NET for the ATI Catalyst Control Center. No, it is not better. It probably will be worse.
For the 9800, you want the Catalyst 4.12 drivers, with the ATI Control Panel, and not the Catalyst Control Center.
Also, in DXDIAG, under the Sound tab, move the hardware sound accleration from Full to 3/4 (Basic). It will help a bit.
-
Hehehe
Hows this :)

You still have your hardware sound accleration at Full. It doe snot do what you think it does. Turn it back to 3/4 (Basic) if want smoother game play.
-
Okay I turned that down to basic.
I still can only be in the game for about 1-2 mins before it shuts down.
-
If you have installed any custom sounds, remove them and re-install the stock sounds.
Remove the 'squads' folder.
Remove the 'skins' folder.
Remove the 'cache' folder.
Set the maximum texture size to 256, in the video settings. Let the game rebuild the cache and see if that helps.
There is also a chance you have a compatibility issue with the SBLive! card and the VIA motherboard chipset. I recall there were a lot of issues with that combination.
