Whoops. (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/columns/film_reporter_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002764635)

Looks like we caught a pair of commies with their pants down.

Superman is an illegal alien who has overstayed his tourist visa.  Ship his arse back to Krypton.  What does he know about the "American Way"?  :p

I think that Superman still stands for truth, justice and the American way.  To me "the American way" ment personal freedom.  I also believe that the US is and has been diverging from the American way for years, heck decades now.

If this is the case, and if many consumers believe this as well.  Then you are going to get into a conflict of Superman being set up in conflict of this divergence.  People will wonder why it wasn't addressed.  If they do address it than it will inevitably piss off other consumers.

I think "... and all that stuff " sounds rather cheesy... if they felt the need to take out " and the American way ", they could have just left it at "truth and justice."

Quote
"We were always hesitant to include the term 'American way' because the meaning of that today is somewhat uncertain," Ohio native Dougherty explains. "The ideal hasn't changed. I think when people say 'American way,' they're actually talking about what the 'American way' meant back in the '40s and '50s, which was something more noble and idealistic."
