So got a new comp..asus P5Ld2
has onboard sound..eweee..may have to change that..
It wont even let me acknowledge that i have a mic..
when i go to controlpanel/sounds/recording...the sliders arent even available to move up or down....the sliders are there..just not available to move

BGBMAW, I don't know much but I'll take a stab at this one. It sound like u don't have the correct drivers for the on board sound to me. Windows may not have a driver for this. You may have to install a driver. Right click My computer on your desk top and click Properties. Click hardware, click device manager. Look and see if u have a yellow question mark near the sounds controller. Click the plus sign and open that stuff up. In there u can see if your drivers are installed or not. I hope this helps.:)

Also run a dxdiag and pay special attention to the sounds and network (mic test) tabs...
