Is it better set or unlimited with a top-end system?
-
Unlimited:aok
-
if a low-end system that keeps crashing, what resulotion/the one in the middle/FPS should i set?
-
What is fps, please ? Sound interesting. Sounds like something I need to know about . TY
-
Frames per Second. It under "Video Settings"
-
ctrl I toggles fps , and memory ussage .
(http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/thumbs/301_1151033867_ahss121b.jpg) (http://www.onpoi.net/ah/picpopup.php?ImgId=38217)
theres sort of a basic sample and what to watch for and how to tune the settings /video sliders ingame for best performance vs best eye candy.
anytime your getting close to maxing the memory usage its time to tune the performance slider to the right more and if your getting stuttering its best to watch this and tune accordenly.
unlimited is good but remember its locked to your monitor refresh rate with vsync on ...(yes leave vsync on)
-
But how do i make it... not crash?
-
" But how do i make it... not crash?"
were gonna need more info about your system .
the 1st 1/3rd of a dxdiag file would help alot .
-
Um, can you tell me where to find that... 1st 1/3 of something something?
-
START > RUN, type dxdiag in command line and ENTER... let the diag complete its check.
On first page, theres a button "SAVE ALL INFO"... this will create a txt file. Post the first third of it here (with all the system and device info)....

From what i can tell, you have 2 main problems.
Too little RAM and additionally, your onboard graphics use up some of the RAM.
You can try lowering all sliders to performance, resolution and textures to lowest settings and pray it works. Dont worry about FPS, theyll never be high enough for limiting to make a difference.
What you need is a graphics card and/or more RAM.
PS: Also, you hardware accel for Sounds should be down to 3/4 (Standard). You find that in the dxdiag sounds tab.
-
This is my dads computer. I cannot change any computer settings, only game settings. But thanks for the info. ill lower all sliders. WHat about boxes? what should be enabled and what shouldnt?
-
You have a Via/S3 video card. That won't run AH, I don't think. I used to have some sort of S-3 video card back when AH came out of beta, and it wouldn't run back then either. If it's an integrated video card, chances are AH won't run on it.
-
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
You don't have the latest version of Direct X. The latest version is 9.0c

i see

Krusty's right, S3 graphics processor isnt supported by Aces High. It sometimes works but its going to crash alot.

Graphics Detail (Clipboard ingame)
Disable Skins, Disable Vehicle Effects, Disable Weapon effects need be checked. Animated Water unchecked.
Optimize Terrain/Objects: youll have to try. Some GC do it better without, but generally they should be on (check your FPS to see). Same for Horizon and Transitions.
In Video Settings (go there from Startup screen):
Uncheck all preloading, uncheck the Hardware Vertex processing (if its checked), set Texture resolution to lowest possible.
But as has been said before. All this isnt a guarantee AH is going to run on your PC. It has chances of still crashing a lot.
Talk to your Dad and ask him if he can get you a graphics card for birthday/christmas and build it in his comp.
-
My birthday isnt until August, and i get my good computer back (the one that DOES play Aces High excellently) in two weeks. But i will try all of these things. Oh, and i dont see animated water as an option, and under the video settings, I cannot change anything but texture size, resolution, and FPS limiter. The rest are greyed-out. How do i fix that?
-
If they are greyed out (as well as AH not providing the animated water option) means your onboard graphics cant do it anyways. Dont worry about those.
-
rgr, thanks all of you for all of your help!
