Still working on the details, but I believe it to be an LFIX and a Polish Wing Commanders bird.
Hopefully I can nail down the serial and codes. But I thought I'd at least throw it out there for ya. It would be on the IX model I believe.
-
Looks like an IXe to me, WOOHOOO, perfect for XVI.
Definately late model IX, absence of starter cartridge bulge front lower nose,
-
The more I think about it, the more I think it might even be an XVI as the Polish Squadrons were all flying XVIs at the end of the war, in particular the Squadrons where this photo was taken.
Hoping to get some help from a Polish Spit Squadron expert on it. Fingers crossed on getting a helpful answer in the next couple days.
-
Don't think its a XVI though - 5 spoke wheel, didn't XVI have 4 spoke ones. My bet is an LF IXe.
Have the bare metal already all but done, just been waiting on something to use it with.
Cut off for the next skins batch is the end of the week.
-
Hope I'll know more before then. Starting a profile on it too. Serial is fictional at this point. Just have it for the look.
Just what I know so far :)
-
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............ .this will be special !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Still got a little color matching to do upper fuselage, but -

Hold the phone! Do you know something we don't??
If I were to look up your recent credit card purchases, would it include a hefty bill for a large order of Blue Bell being shipped to a certain place in Texas?
Fees paid for information gained??

Yeah what he said! Just hope it was fees paid and not services rendered.. :rofl

Was just speaking to Skuzzy and he said any skins in this week would make the cut for the next batch.
-
Hm... interesting. So perhaps a skin pack next week?
-
That would be my guesstimate.
Skuzzy said he was starting to go through the current skins they had this week, therefore cut-off was end of this week.
-
To quote Wesley from Princess Bride, "I do not envy Skuzzy the headache he'll have in the morning ... Until then sleep well and dream of large women!"

Where is the cannon barrel?
-
Hard to see but I think the guns are removed probably for servicing, or change over.
Can just make out the temporary dust/dirt caps.
Could even be a change over from 'c' to 'e' armament, who knows.
But the inner guns are definately 50 cals with protective cap.
Plus I think we can just see enough of the stbd (closest) wing that if it was a 'c' wing we would see the inner .303.
-
Kev do me a favor... Discolor the panel just in front of the windscreen, going out to the oil cap marker. Make it darker, dirtier, something. It looks oft-removed in the photo of the real thing. I think it'd add character to mimick that.
EDIT: That is, of course, if you haven't submitted it already.
-
It's on hold for the moment until we can dig up a serial number and codes.
So unfortuneately won't make the cut this time.
But you should still get bare metal -
Ia RAF
V x2 - 1 RAAF, 1 RHAF
VIII RAAF
IX RAF
Seafire FAA
Now if only we could get the extra mph that the finish allowed.
Will continue to work on the LFIXe (XVI) and the XIV (when one found) for next skin pack.
-
Looks nice but I suspect its a post-war bird, @ summer 1945. Any info on dates?
Note the lack of armament on the 1st pic.

End of the war bird. Apparently quite the story behind it but the guy with the story is keeping mum until he gets permission to share it :(
This photo was taken apparently mid life for this Spit. It had a previous 'owner', the one from the time of the image and one after wards in terms of Polish Wing Cos. The silver bird was unique to 131 Wing however. Once I can get the details it would fit as a wartime bird.
Gonna keep working on it.
