Hi guys. I have a little bit of a problem. I have been overclocking my Radeon 9600XT for quite a while now. My default settings show 500 Core and 300 Memory. I have been overclocking it for about 1 year now to 533 Core and 306 Memory. For one year it has been fine until a couple weeks ago when I noticed the temperature (Using ATI Tool) began to rise bit by bit each time I played PC games. I only play AH2 and World of Warcraft. Both demanding high graphics. My avg GPU temp used to be around 65-70 degrees celcius. In the past two weeks it has now rose to over 80 degrees celcius while playing games.
I took the cover off my tower and dusted it - yes there was some dust. After cleaning it with compressed air and a vacuum for about 30 mins I put her back in and gave her another run. Still the same problem. While running the 3D view in ATI Tool this is what comes up:

Any who, I'll take a pic of my tower to show you the set up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Wasn't able to get a picture of my setup because my camera just crapped out on me. But I have a good 2 inches between my vid card and my netcard and also a dust plate open near it so air can get out/in.

you checked the cards fan ??
i presumne you did so its either turning slower or it has this problem .
the thermal stuff between the heatsink and gpu is bad and not alowing for heat transfur .
take the heatsink off and clean it ... reapply some artic silver and the heat sink .. try again
ive seen this same problem on cpu's tons of times .. after a couple of years even artic silver kinda goes away exspecially when they see higher temps mostly caused from the "Dust bunnies from Hell " Tm

I agree with RR, its probably either (or a combination of) your fan slowing down from age / dust or crud on the shaft, or the thermal paste has dried up and pulled away and you no longer have good contact on 100% of your heatsink to the GPU. The hotter it runs, the more likely you need new thermal paste. 70C is pretty darn hot. Mine runs that hot too, I needed new Arctic Silver after only 1 year. I really could use a better heatsink setup though. The stock one stinks.

pull the heat sink, reapply, clean fan.
my god id freak if my card was running that hot, mine normally runs at like 45c to 50c.
isnt 70c hot?
-
70c is HOT .. most gpu's can stand 85c-90c but i myself have had pixel erroring and crashes at 80c area .. i like to keep my cards down in the 50c area . (just like anyother cpu gpu )

So lets say the problem is most likely I need to apply Arctic Silver - Where would I purchase that? (because I've never heard of it before)
Also, do you think I could use a diff. heatsink than the stock on the Radeon 9600XT? If so, what kind and where should I get one?

Problem Recognized.
Solution Simple and Cheap.
Found out my fan on my vid card stopped running. Since it screws into the heatsink I need a whole new kit (heatsink and fan) I hope its not too hard to replace.
Any suggestions on where to find one? If any stores have em that would be better than online.
