I’ve watched this fascinating Soviet medical pre WW2 movie about reviving dead dogs with what it seems an artificial heart, and have a question; doesn’t human brain decompose within ~6 minutes without constant supply of oxygen? Then if dog’s brain deprived of oxygen for 10-15 minutes, how come it doesn’t have same affect as humans? I assume dog’s metabolism is much faster and therefore decomposition would arrive sooner…

The human brain uses someting like 20 - 25 % of the total energy required by a human being. I think the massive energy requirement of glucose and the oxygen required to "energify" that glucose might be the thing that gives us only 5 minutes.
A catfish has very little higher brain function and therefore, by this theory, would be very difficult to kill, and could spend a great deal of time out of the water, deprived of oxygen. By experience it appears to hold.
