I luckily stumbled across AH by watching the military channel. I don't know how long it's been around but I'm glad I found it. It will be a bit before I actually download and begin play (I REALLY need a new monitor before I even consider it) but may I suggest a newbies forum?
-
I dunno, I think it'd be virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the boards. :D
-
can't disagree with that :lol
I just don't want vets to have to deal with repetative 'rook' questions :)
-
What do you wanna know about rooks?
They stink
They lack brains, proven by the high altitudes they fly at
They hate bish, but love knights
They always fight with at least 2 wingmen
They stink
Their women and sheep are ugly
Same applies to knights, bish are the good ones.:aok

Dichotomy, Help & Training Forum.
Ask away!
-
oh trust me I will once I get set up
in order to get involved I need to make a few changes to my comp that I've been putting off but now that I have a good reason I'll expedite the process. In the interim I will be reading and learning as much as I can prior to taking first flight.

Welcome to AH Dichotomy. I realy wish more people who just sighned one were like you. Take the time to rtfm. Practice offline for about a week. Then any questions you have will be Real Questions. Enjoy:)
-
no worries.. do have a question for the vets...
what's the best joystick in your opinions?
-
I'm using a CH HOTAS setup (Fighterstick + Pro Throttle, with the pedals, too).

So true !! I've been flying Rookish since the beginning and have yet to understand the jeolousy and lack of admiration for us rookies ! We tend to kill more folks than the other 2 countries combined. (every month) HiTech used to have those stats but not since the rework of the site. It was probably "PC" to not hurt the Bish and Knit's 'feelings' by allowing a superior group of pielets (ROOKS) spank them at will and then giving us the credit for all to see. :rofl
And just an FYI, we don't hate BISH or KNITS, they make wonderful barnyard pets and they taste like bacon! :O

And for all people wondering "Is he right?", here are the
stats for tour 77
All models have 210864 Deaths by Bishops
All models have 248940 Kills of Bishops
K/D 0.85
All models have 205643 Deaths by Knights
All models have 219993 Kills of Knights
K/D 0.94
All models have 262260 Deaths by Rooks
All models have 209834 Kills of Rooks
K/D 1.25
As you see, you can still get total kills per country from the statistic page ;)

yes I'm giving that a look
I want pedals and independant throttle control ... realism is important :)
and on that note I'll take my thoughts and questions to the training forum as I think I've gotten off topic :)
Thanks guys I'll be joining you soon :)

Very Nice "Stats..." and I stand corrected. Thank you Lusche.
Seems that now we just kill more of you, (+50,000 a month) and die less (-10,000 a month). Congrats to the Bish and Knits for finally making a fight of it! :)

Depends on the size of your wallet ;).
Let me point you to a thread in H&T section:
http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=180628&highlight=joystick
But if you need more info, just search the H&T and Hardware/Software forums for "joystick".
If you got the $$, CH setup certainly ranges among the best. Especially if you got prior flight sim experiece.
If you are a total newbie to flying (like i was 2 years ago), you might want to think about an simple stick for the first months... less buttons, less confusion and less to worry about in fight :).
And welcome to your new addiction Dichotomy! >>S<<
-
thanks bro.. I know I'm going to be severly addicted soon.. gonna take it slow and be prepared before messing things up for the vets :) I've been looking for a WWII sim that's realistic for 5 years now and I'm in HEAVEN already :)
Cant wait to get in the air but might as well get equipped properly first. I don't think many WWII pilots went into battle in a Sopwith Camel :)

CH setup is money well spent.

To be honest, im not sure especially the Germans had much left training and equipment wise as the war grew older..... but i can understand where youre coming from. Need a few basics to feel comfy.
And dont hesitate to mess things up for the "vets"! The water is warm, come on in :).
-
will do... soon.. not as soon as I want to.. like tonight but soon :)
-
add Bu-181 for the n00bs
(http://www.worldwar2aces.com/antitank_aircraft.jpg)
and for the panzers
-
I hate bish,never was one,never gonna be......

It's nice that you are taking it slow and trying to be prepared, a novel idea for the summer (you'll get this shortly ;) ), but, like Schatzi said, don't worry about messing anything up for the vets.
Heck, I'm not even quite sure what you mean by that :D
-
stumble around and make a nuisance of myself. I've been reading the last years threads in the help forum and I simply can't take it anymore. After work tonight I'm going to go get me a stick, download, and start practicing :)
Thanks to everyone who have already been a huge help to me. Guess I'll give the kids back the Xbox I've found my game for life :)

Just to give yoiu a heads up.....Schatzi (German for "sweetheart") is a delightful LADY veterinarian living in Hanover.
You can tell she has masochistic tendencies, both because she prefers the ancient Hurricane I, and because she hangs around with the likes of us AH'ers.....
-
i was a nite for a week or 2, but then i came back to being a bishop, one thing they both lack is organization.
-
Dichotomy...I wish all newbs were like you.
There ain't nothing that'll get you more ignored than the question..."how do I take off?"
If I may make a suggestion.....join missions when you can. Here's why
-you'll be flying with a gaggle of others..less chance of getting jumped on, therefore...longer flights
-the chatter in the mission will help you learn about targets and strategies
just listen and follow, guys in the mission will help you too.
-you'll be exposed to a variety of aircraft
Another thing.....you're going to have to remember that you have to log off once in a while to sleep, or work, or eat.
Autopilot is for retreiving beer and/or paying the rent on it.

Thanks :)
I had to laugh at myself last night ... got set up and planes on the runway, engine is running, kids are scarfing pizza, and... the plane won't go anywhere. Now what does auto take off mean? It means take off and then i'll fly. Took me a minute to realize that I had to throttle up... so I'm full throttle going down the runway and I grab the stick and rearrange a hanger... ::lol
More practice tonight and through the week and I'll probably get online either Sunday or Monday at the latest. I'm REALLY interested in the missions play, tactics, teamwork, etc...
PS.. I thought AFK or autopilot meant 'A Free Kill'? :lol
-
well, auto takeoff will get ya airborne...I use it because I'm lazy.
Shatzi is outstanding for helping people. either in the MA (main arena) or one on one in the TA (training arena), although I've never asked her to help my sorry ass.
And like I say before, missions help out with the questions of , "well, now that I'm up...where do I go? What do I do?"
And your concept of AFK is correct. I sometimes think it's the only way I get kills.

Very true.
Unfortunately, every time I type "anybody here AFK?" nobody answers....
