A great number of us have been playing Flight Sims for a long time. And what draws most people to Flight Sims is the virtual reality of being in air to air combat. The Main Areana is fun.....generally no pressure just try to engage in combat and come out on top. Missions are fun but they are temporary. Scenarios however are the closest thing to reality that Aces High has to offer.
Our CM Team has come up with what I think is a very exciting Scenario. I've been here quite a few years and I am most excited about this Scenario. A great deal of people that rarely fly the MA will be signed up for this one. Vets from AW, WB, and Beta Aces High. You'll see the best of the best.
ROC has done great planning on planesets and Task Forces. Raptor has done a fantastic job on the new Terrain. I've probably forgotten some and I apologize for that. Someone can fill in the blanks here please.
If you want organized Combat, closer to the reality of Combat, even though this is virtual....this is what you want to experience. This is why you came to Aces High.
You and your Squadmates will have responsiblities. You will fly in formation. You'll have an objective and you will have to follow orders and work as a team to accomplish your goal. Your loadout of fuel and ord will be very important. Listening to vox transmissions in a Scenario while in Combat sounds as close to the real thing as possible. You'll hear "Clear Radio!" "Clear Radio" Incoming from SSW hdg approximately two zero degrees alt is 21K." " Grid postion 8-6 5" Then vox really perks up as flights are given orders for intercept etc. What heading to take to intercept and rate of climb etc.
If the virtual reality of Combat is what you signed on for at Aces High you owe it to yourself and the 15 dollars you spend to try one on for size. This is the one! Located in the Sea of Japan. Matching the USN & USAAF against the Imperial Forces of Japan. Get involved. You won't regret it!

You won't regret it!
where have I heard that before

Scenarios are what I fly for.
In my opinion, scenarios are to the main arena what the main arena is to offline play -- a whole new dimension of fun.
-
Is this operation downfall? Either way, i want in! :D
-
I've always wanted to particpate in a scenario, but I have the bad luck of being in a time zone that makes it impossible. No one's fault; it's just the way it is.
Have fun you guys, and remember: Say everything twice! Say everything twice! :O
-
Which scenario are we talking about? I dont want to miss it!

All Operation Downfall (http://ahevents.org/site/content/view/122/153/) frames runs at 8pm Eastern Daylight time, starting July 22nd, 29th, August 5th and 12th.
That's 6 pm Rocky Mountain time so you shouldn't have a problem. Picnic with the wife and kids in the afternoon and fly while they watch videos and have popcorn in the evening. :)
-
I'd agree 100% -- scenarios, especially when balanced, are the best activities in AH, bar none.
My memories of my first one, Battle of Britain a few years ago, still rank among the best for any game, any time, ever.
If you can be there -- even for a few frames - by all means do so!
-
Im going to try, but i cannot participate in one at my best capacity until the 25th. (I cannot fly most aircraft without my computer crashing here at my dads, but i go back to my mums after bootcamp. I can fly 110s for a while though, but those arent an option)

I try to take part in all scenarios (missed last one because of work), but in this case I'll give it a miss.
Sorry, but "what if", fantasy scenarios are not my cup of tea.
But as correctly stated at the very top, scenarios are one of the great aspects af AH2.

I for one am especially looking forward to this one.
-
They are all "what if" scenarios, as we don't have the number of people, the time, the living conditions, etc. to make these into reproductions of true historical battles.
For me, scenarios are wonderfully fun, regardless of topic of the battle.

True, perhaps I should clarify -
Events that are based on a battle/engagement that actually happened.

Hey, um, im going to be flying for Japan to assist the 64th, and ive never flown japanese A/C before. I only fly German planes for combat, and American and British planes for informational purposes. So, i have a few questions if you dont mind helping me:
1. Val and Kate. Which is which? I always forget.
2. Im a torpedo-bombing kind of guy, is the Kate any good?
3. What should i know about these aircraft?
4. Are we going to use any GVs?
Yeah, im not a Japanese pilot. Im a Luftwaffe guy!
Heil der Luftwaffle!!! (<---- yes, that is intentionaly misspelled)

Val is the D3A divebomber; Kate is the B5N torpedo bomber.
The B5N is not as good as the TBM, but it carries a torpedo and can deliver it to target. Compared to the TBM, the B5N is slower, has no forward guns, is more fragile, but turns better. It might also have longer range. Also, Japanese torpedos are, I think, faster than US torpedos, but US torpedos run for longer (although I'd check this data before relying on it).
The Japanese aircraft can, on average, turn better than the US aircraft, but are slower, more fragile, and handle worse at speed. A D3A can outturn everything in the game, and it does have forward guns. The Zero can outturn all the US aircraft. The Ki-84 and N1K are decently fast and good turners, but the US planes are faster in many circumstances. The Japanese fighters have cannon and so can be decently lethal (although the Zero's cannon are somewhat weak). Japanese planes tend to have long flying ranges.
There will be some GV's, but I suspect they will be used sparingly, not in large GV assaults.
My advice would be, once the IJAF CO assigns people to groups (which should happen soon), is to go into the main arena and fly as much as you can in your assigned aircraft to get used to it.
Glad to see you in the scenario!

Im glad to be here, but i want to say, until the 25th, im not garunteeing i can fly any aircraft. So far, the only aircraft i can fly for a decent period of time before my computer crashes, is the Bf-110G2, and the C-47. GVs are somewhat okay. Everything else crahses my computer, but i havent tried any IJN planes. I will soon though. After the 25th, i can do anything, until then though, i must simply be a turret gunner.

Reynolds: Try a couple of things.
1. Reduce your graphic quality if computer is crashing (BTW, I cannot see any reason while one aircraft rather than another should crash the computer in AH)
2. Check the cooling and dust inside computer. Crashes often happen because of overheating.
3. Spend more time on google and looking at the links provided in AH rather than asking forever ;)

Schatzi, - you are good.
Ehemm...I've got a problem too you see.
A friend was trying to install a graphic card on my system but it didn't work, so we reverted to the old card again. There were some driver updates in the process.
Anyway, since then, all radar circles and dots, as well as hostile tracesrs are black.
Never found a way out of that one :(
Any ideas?

Just to butt in. I'd say do this:
Find the appropriate driver that WORKED for your card (whether it is on CD or on the web, you can find many revisions by googling drivers
uninstall all your video card drivers either via add/remove programs or in device manager, then reboot and install the fresh drivers. Also there is a great driver removal program, can't remember the name. Anyone?

I would uninstall everything Angus, including going through regedit before trying to load or unload, make sure new card is in, drivers are there etc, then you can try a clean install. Please make sure that you have disabled the old one via my computer etc. worked for me.
Cheers

Looks like you dont need me after all Angus :) - even though im always willing to help when a cattle is in distress ;).
As the others already said, try going back to that older driver. What vid card do you have? (dxdiag)
PS: Maybe we should take this to tech support....
