Title: hurricane 1 73 squadron
Post by: rogerdee on July 09, 2006, 02:30:38 PM
ive been working on this huricane on and off for  months but now  since  i was  given a master class by  greebo to whom i give great thanks  i think its  moved  up  another level.
i was finding it had  to gt the 3d stuff to look right but Greebo gave up some of his time  to give me some examples  and some help and this is the result up to now.
i know i am pretty pleased with it  hope my teacher is.

Id  like  to say   a big thank you to greebo  and all the other skinners  who take time out to give tips  and share there ideas and methods,it makes  skinning more pleasurable  and the game more varied with the different skins

Really like how your seam turned out on that left wing there Rogerdee.  I remember Greebo pointing out how to do it but to see it on the Hurri is really nice :aok

Cant wait to see her completed.  I'd fly her :)

Nice job on the fuselage fabric effects Roger, that sort of detail is what makes a skin IMO.

I still don't think the markings are quite right though. If you look at the profile below, the red and blue arrow ends are almost touching the blue part of the roundel. The roundel and letter seem slightly too big as well. I would suggest making the fin flash shorter and moving it down a bit too.

Hold on, I'm getting there :)

The bird in question.  BD630 appears to be the serial.  For what it's worth, I believe the middle part of the arrow was a lighter shade of blue, not red.  Kev and I went through this when he did the 73 Squadron Spit IX.

Btw, it's a Hurricane II not a Hurricane 1 and it's BD930 :)

Another view from a different book of the same image with caption.  Note the mention of the two tone blue arrow of 73 Squadron.  This image shows a 4 gun wing so it's a IIa apparently

Note the two tone blue in the postwar Vampire profile

The fuselage markings look a lot better now Roger. Maybe redo the wing roundels as they are a bit fuzzy in comparison and also paint the gun patches to match the red of the roundels. The font on the airframe number does not look quite right to me.

I look forward to seeing it weathered.

I like the weathering on the leading edge, the trailing edge is difficult to see. but it looks pretty dam good.
