Has anyone noticed if gravity is modeled on bullets in Il-2? I'd been sticking to pretty close in fighting, but had the occasion to take some controlled pot-shots at a fleeing P-39 while flying a 109 last night. I find the convergance kind of screwey, so I didn't even bother with the wing guns.. only the nose.
I found that placing the crosshairs directly on the fleeing dot at up to 600 yards hit the enemy very reliably with short bursts... both cannon and minigun. The more I looked at it... the more it looked like the bullets weren't dropping at all.
I seem to remember noticing bullet drop on the P-39's cannon, but am not sure on it.
Anyone else with impressions, knowledge or otherwise on the subject?

One reason could be this demo is based beta01 and some components are left out.

what about the cfg settings? do you have to set them each time? and the rudder, can't get my peds to take the place of the rocker in the x36. just beta problems or am I doin something wrong?

"Its just a beta" vs "Most accurate ever". Its weird how I see the same phrase attatched to the exact same feature.

go to a dos prompt and remove all attributes from all the files in the il2 directory and all subdirectories. That fixes that problem

There is a bullet drop. Easy to see for cannons, since their tracers seem to burn longer (37mm go on VERY long. Until they hit ground almost)
To see MG's drop it is easiest to see it with the 109's MG, since those have smoke trails, instead of the VVS's "tracer only".
Land somewhere and zoom all the way in. They drop to the bottom of the target-circle at least.
To really see the drop you can also go outside (F2) and put the camera somewhere along the bullets path far from the plane.

If you go to the controls panel and scroll down to the HOTAS section, you can asign other rudder pedals to do the rudder. The only drag is you can't change the input graph - ho hum, but then again, it's just a beta demo. (Hehe - beta demo?!? Next they'll be asking you to pay for a beta demo - oops nope they already did that with WW2OL ;) )

Need dos for dummies instructions please. I know how to navagate in dos but no idea how to remove all attributes.

Right-click file and select properties. Check if there's a x in "Read Only" and if there is take it away.

"The only drag is you can't change the input graph"
A work-around is to go into the config.ini. Each axis is listed there (do a search for "joystick" in the file) and you can change it there. Just gotta find out which is what.

Eagler I'm not sure but maybe this (http://www.wingmanteam.com/Latest_Software/Gadgets/gadgets.htm#DXTweak) could be handy.

at 700 meters, there surely is a big drop.
I've managed to down plane from 780 meters with IL-2's cannons.
I had to aim fairly high above the target (more than I would have to in AH with super hispanies that are comparable to IL-2 cannons.... at least by effect)
With machineguns.. don't bother shooting too far since those will drop right towards earth after few hundred meters.
Dejavu trolling again?

No.. I'm dead serious.
I was at 500 meeters with no drop from a 109's cannons.

Deja, the standard setting on those cannons is 500 meters. Unless you changed conv, this is exactly where a target would cross the center of your gunsight.
Get in around 200 and see how many tracers fly over their head in Ctrl F2 view when the gunsight is centered on them.
It's there.
On thing you will notice though is that Il-2 models dispersion very differently. Basically all projectiles stay straight to the top of thier ballistic curve. Then as they drop they wander, each one can go a seperate random direction. The group on the P-39's 2 12.7mm is less than 2 feet at 4-500m or so, after that it starts to widen a huge amount. I tested this in Beta1, was very impressive :)

Guys - if you see what you think might be anomalies, make a .trk file of 'em and mail it to Oleg. That's par for the course. I for one would be interested to see a .trk of a 780m cannon kill.

Jerry you have very beautiful 3d modeled planes in your site, did you make the models all by yourself or are they imports?
The Hasse Winds brewster was a true beauty!

I made all of 'em, and now have less hair as a result ;)
