Title: A/C in your car
Post by: Gunslinger on July 11, 2006, 10:59:16 AM
When the man at the auto repair shop told me that it would

cost $1400 to fix my car's air conditioning,

I just laughed at him and said, "I can

fix it myself for a whole lot less than that!"

MY MOMMA DIDN'T RAISE NO FOOL !!!!!!!

That sucks.  When my mechanic told me how much it was to fix my AC, I laughed, opened up the windows and window vents and then left.

Its not worth $1400 in my opinion just for AC.  Especially when it can be fixed for a lot cheaper at other places (mechanic friends, etc).

Whats wrong with the AC? Any reason you can't do it on your own?

Caption? Ghetto phabulous!

When I was a kid we had a contraption that fit in the window of our 62 Ford Galaxy that worked like a swamp cooler. It resembled a turbine and had a small water tank. If you got up over 40-50mph it kinda cooled the car somewhat. But, if you ever stopped it was an instant sauna.

You can do EVERYTHING with a Leatherman and some duct tape!

The trick was to put ice in the tank and drive real fast. :D
It also helped to have that cool green, "aviator shades", tint on the windows.
Teh Sexah. :)

That’s actually quite admirable from my point of view. The person adapted and made it work even better then original. It may look crude but it does the required job. That’s far from American style I see everyday – “OMG, my thing broke! Time to buy a new one.” Instead of fixing what ever broke….

You're not serious? Imagine that A/C flying through your windshield if that car pulled in front of you and you broad sided them. Or, that generator in your lap or theirs in a rear end collision.

crude, but looks similar to the systems used on motor homes, with a separate generator + a/c system. Plus you can plug other things into the generator, great for tailgating, picnicking, camping, etc.

i see a marketing opportunity here.

LOL A little late .
It`s sort of funny thinking back on what we consisdered a camping trip when I was younger compared to present day.
Living here on the lake I see it firsthand regularly.
We used to grab a bed roll, some grub and head out. If we were really big dogging it, we might scrape up a tent of some kind.
Now folks pull up in there MHs and plug into elec, water, sewer, etc.
The more rustic camper, :) , rolls in with a pop-up, cranks up the generator, turns on the AC and color TV for some real mother nature type experiences.
Even the tent campers bring AC and generators for the most part.
Hilarious.
A friend of mine from younger days used to have a saying about our camping.
He said.."You can always tell when someone has been camping. They smell like burnt wood and hot RCs".  :)
