Title: Chechen Planner of School massacre Slain

Shamil Basayev, 41, the Chechen rebel who masterminded the seizure of a hospital in Budyonnovsk in 1995, of a theater in Moscow in 2002, and of the school in Beslan in 2004 that left 331 dead, more than half whom were children, has been SLAIN.

This announcement came from the director of Russia's Federal Security Service.  The director said Basayev was killed overnight in a special operation in Ingushetia, a region that borders Chechnya.
