According to some Israeli diplomat who was quoted as saying "Israel is at war" after the kidnapping of the two Israeli soldiers by hezbolah (I know spelling) & the rocket attacks on Haifa. I hope all our Israeli members are able to come through this most recent conflict without any personal tragedies. Good luck Israel, strike swiftly, strike hard & don't back down. Your enemies are nothing but terrorsists & terorist supporters.

Couldn't say better myself.

that's odd, why would "some guy" say that? I thought "some guy" was responsible for the murder of O.J.'s ex & Ronald Goldman...& that Jon Benet Ramsey girl....why would anyone listen to him? But alas, it's probably best for you to welcome your new Tahitian masters.
BTW, the Israeli diplomat who made the comment was apparently the Israeli ambasador to the U.S. I'm not positive on that, but it's not because it's not being reported, I just keep missing who they are quoting as saying it.

Isn't it atleast 7 dead and two kidnapped from inside isreal?
I wonder how many dead and kidnapped jews is enough for our German friend here.
Hopefully far fewer then they did back in their time.

Go to war, win it.
Peace thru military victory.
These peace deal things have failed before the ink was dry.

2 soldiers kidnapped, now over 50 civilians killed in Lebanon.
And you call that fair?
Nothing wrong with nice surgical elimination missions, but Israel is shooting on its own foot with killing so many civilians. Most of the people around there does not want to fight, they just want to live their daily lives and this only makes them to fight Israel even more.
Stupid pissing contest..

Nope, who said anything about fair? Life isnt fair. Being kidnapped wasnt fair.
I call it an act of war, brought on by lebanons idiocy, and they will pay in spades.
But go ahead and blame the country defending its borders. That's fair right?

why do you bring up WWII in this thread then ???
i dont care about Jews, or Arabs, but two where kidnapped and you
can turn it the way you like, but thats the reason for this war.
So 2 people are worth all the blood now in Lebanon?

Yeah its all the Isreals fault, they should let their borders be voilated and their people be killed and do nothing?
Shouldn't you be blaming the nation holding the hostages?
WW2 is that history you think people didnt learn from you mention. The jews remeber theirs and don't take kindly to people kidnapping and killing them. I wonder why.
If canada or Mexico invaded the US, killed 7 US soldiers and then kidnapped two others, you bet your bellybutton we would go to war. It would be justified, defending your people and your borders is one of the oldest and most valid reason for war.
Maybe thats hard to understand for a German since in the last century you guys have doing much of the invading.

No, 1 is worth it.
Treat your enemies like enemies, act accordingly. Show them the will that they show you. When they don't give respect, take it.
If everyone showed the resolve of the Israelis, violence and intimidation on a national scale would be a thing of the past.
I hope they wipe the place clean.

I'd hope that at least all those who love the country so much as to accept anything they do right, wrong or in the middle, could spend just 30 measly seconds learning to spell it right: IsrAEl.
Blind support for wholesale collective punishment is already hard to defend by itself, coming up seeming so uneducated only makes it harder to give those opinions on the matter any credit.
Remember, Isreal isn't real.
BTW, an informal poll among my israeli neighbours has resulted in 100% condemnation of the excessive response, but I only have one,so I guess it had to go one way or the other...

I don't have wholesale support for everything Israel has done; they have made some big mistakes. Hell I think the US should drop all aid and support for them.
In this case, this action justified, what is more important the protection of your citizens and borders?
How would you handle it? Give in to Lebanon’s demands? Let the UN deal with it?
Why are you blaming the victim in this case?

Invading a sovereign nation in an unprovoked military attack sounds like an act of war to me.
Go get some Israel.

If I lived in a neighborhood that routinely had violence and terrorism I'd probably move or expect to be bombed in retaliation.....it's the nature of the beast.
After nightfall Israeli planes dropped leaflets in south Beirut warning residents to avoid areas where Hezbollah operates.
Army chief Brig. Gen. Dan Halutz warned that "nothing is safe" in Lebanon.

2 soldiers, plus the other solders killed in the raid, plus the 100+ rockets launched from Lebanon into Israel in the last 24 hours by Hezbollah. Israel occupied the southern tip of Lebanon as a security buffer aginst Hezbollah until they withdrew in 2000 with the condition that Lebanon Army would control their own border aginst Hezbollah activity. They did not.
The Lebaneese leader is a US ally, but its their bad for not controling Hezbollah within their borders.
The shame of it is that Hezbollah is a step-child of Syria and Iran and both coutries can just sit back and watch the trouble they have caused with no danger to themselves.
Such things are never as simple as you stated.

2 american soldiers were kidnapped. They were killed and mutilated. In this day of the media being completely a tool for the left , any attempt at retribution for this would result in murder charges against american soldiers. Just my opinion.
Israel is being condemmed for over doing it?
Good luck to them.
News report said , a bit ago , and I for the life of me don't remember what I was listeneing to , that the rockets shot into israel , were from Iran and shot by iranians in lebanon.
Wouldn't suprise me if in the next few days , a few planes are spotted over Iran , right after they have blown a nuclear plant to bits.

I think they can take care of all the threats in their neighborhood without our direct intervention though. Syria is no match for Israel & Iran can't get there...unless Saudi Arabia or Jordan & Kuwait give them help & allthough Egypt doesn't like it, I think they will probably sit this one out.

I dont.
Isreal is so peredicable in its responces I beleive it is strongly possible they are being played like a puppet on a string.
These attacks Isreal are carrying out right now are going exactly as intended by their enemies to lure them into an escalation of hostilities to unite and draw the other middle easter countries into the fray against Isreal
Isreal is being played for a sucker by her enemies.
And they are playing the part perfectly.
Sometimes the show of true strength is not in what you do. But in what you can do and dont.
In Gulf war I the best attack Isreal made after the scud strikes was in not conducting a strike of their own.
Saddams plan was he was counting on Isreal to counter the attack with an attack of her own. He WANTED Isreal to attack. That was the key to his entire plan.
As this would cause the Arab portion of the Coalition to break away and possibly ally with him instead.
They in essence attacked Saddams plan by not attacking.
Sometimes defeating the plan is better then a victory in the feild.
Such is the case now. Same plan. Different orchestrator
This Time Isreal is taking the bait and acting from the heart instead of the head.
Sorry but I will go on record right now as saying I will NOT support any US military intervention in this conflict.
Nothing personal Isreal. Its strictly buisness
It is just not in the US interests to support this
Our Thomas Jefferson Said two things that I beleive rin as true now as they did when he said them
1-The US should never maintain "permananent" alliances
2-the US should always act in our own interests
Sorry but Isreal is pretty much a minor ally now. Almost insignificant. Politically being more of a problem for us then an asset
Getting involved militarily in this situation does not serve the US interests.
If anything it can only hurt our interests.
I have nothing against Isreal and this certainly isnt personal.
Strictly buisness

So long as Syria and Iran et al stay out of it, I agree that Israel requires nothing more from the U.S. than the current financial and material aid. However, should any of those countries decide to escalate, that changes it all, and it becomes time to move assets into the area and use force if need be.

I'm wondering what the next move will be. I think Israel will be hammering hezbolah for many days to come. Who will be the first to come to their aid?
Who will save Hezbola I mean.

Well, the enemy of our enemy is our friend. And those heathen radical muslims want us dead along with Israel., so the more they wipe out, the less we'll have to deal with tomorrow.
Israel is more than capable of dealing with syria or iran or both at the same time; I'll bet money they don't ask for U.S. intervention on the ground or otherwise.
I'll also say this, when the U.S. turns it's back on an ally in need I will be ashamed to be an American.

Because we have already said we will not tolerate nations who support terrorism. We've already been pressuring Syria to stop supporting terrorists. Telling them to stop while standing idly by as they support terroists who attack an ally leaves us looking like the proverbial toothless tiger. Same goes for Iran. then Fine. If we go after Syria, lebanon or whoever because they support terrorism Im down with that.

Soldiers are a legitimate military target. As such should not be viewed as an act of terrorism

Im not saying Isreal is wrong for what its doing. Though I do beleive it is doing EXACTLY what her enemies want her to do and are counting on her to do.
I do beleive Isreal is going overboard and the end result could be disasterous for her.
What I AM saying is we should not get involved with it militarily as it does not serve our national interests
And OUR national interests MUST come before any alliance
Particularly a minor one

Soldiers are a legitimate military target. As such should not be viewed as an act of terrorism
Terrorists, those who do not wear uniforms or other markings identifying them as military personnel in uniform in the service of a country, are NOT LEGAL military personnel. As such, terrorists have no legitimate targets, as they are not a legitimate force, under ANY part of international law. So, if the PLA, PLO, Hezbollah, Hamas, or Islamic Jihad, make incursions into a sovereign nation, and of course as terrorists are not wearing military uniforms of a sovereign nation, they have no legal standing, and cannot claim ANYONE, regardless of their status as military or civilian, is a legitimate target. If Syria allows these operations to base themselves on soil Syria controls, they are supporting terrorism, because NONE of those groups has ANY status as a legal standing military force of a sovereign nation.
So, I guess you're "down with that" in reference to Israel's completely valid claim that they were invaded by a terrorist force making an illegal incursion, and that those terrorists are guilty of the terrorist act of kidnapping. And Syria, controlling the soil where these groups are based, is guilty of supporting terrorism.

LOL, I don't give a crap if it's an arabic saying; what the hell does that matter? We are at war with radical muslim terrorists & the syrians, iranians, & palestinians are radical muslim terrorists or supporters of same.

That's not exactly accurate Dred. The Terrorists have been attacking Israel for years, just because it was three soldiers that were kidnapped (not counting all the ones killed in just the last terrorist raid out of lebanon) doesn't make Israel any less attacked. By that logic Israel shouldn't retaliate because their soldiers are legit military targets. What about the civilians that have been being killed in Israel?
You say you think Iran is sucking Israel into a conflict? I think you have it backwards bro. ;)

I do not support the US helping for any reason. If They can't handle it solo they should not have gone solo.

From milblogs:
In my view, Iran and Syria are engaged in "all out war" although the form is currently asymmetric war by proxy.
Since the goals for Iran and Syria include the complete destruction of Israel and, at least, the neutering of the United States, I consider them to be seeking "total" victory. I would argue that this includes the removal of any restraint on their ability pursue their national or extranational interests (perhaps in re-establishing the Caliphate?).
And, though their approach is not masses of tanks and waves of aircraft, they are fighting on their schedule and within their capabilities. They are subordinating everything to the war effort. Thus, it is, in my view, "total war." It is not being fought like previous wars. It is being fought on several fronts.
Iran is "continuing politics by other means" through its surrogate actions. Walid Phares has identified four goals Iran wants to gain through this current effort at misdirection (or a feint?):
1. Iran is concerned about the nuclear crisis and wants to deflate the issue away.
2. Syria is concerned about the Hariri murder investigation and wishes to postpone its results.
3. Hizbollah is concerned about the call for disarming its militias and therefore decided to flare up the conflict with Israel.
4. Finally, Hamas was sinking in crisis with Mahmoud Abbas and Fatah. Thus a Jihad against Israel was the solution.
But these concerns are but a small part of the larger war which includes support of terrorists, Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and pieces of the Iraqi "insurgency."
In addition to the attacks on civilians and other indices of total war, the war continues with propaganda, perhaps including tripe like this which asks one part of the Iranian goal, "Imagine a world without Israel."
If your goal is total destruction of another state and you have announced that goal and taken steps to make it come true, then it smells like "all out war" to me. "Death to the United States" is a goal, not just a chant.
What is currently happening may be just a skirmish or it may be the beginning of a bigger battle. But it is part of a larger whole. An "all out" war, in my view.
And
Think the US would ever respond as forcefully to the kidnapping of American soldiers?
I doubt we'll see all-out war here, or any significant escalation (beyond whatever level Israel decides to take this) at all. Israeli/Arab wars are generally named by the number of days it takes the Israelis to win, and its neighbors are well aware of that. They switched tactics to prolonged terrorism years ago for just that reason. As for the Persians, while the Mullahs may be mad, they don't want the outright whup-a they know Israel would inflict upon them.
There's been discussion as to how this might impact the situation in Iraq. It will be interesting to see whether the non-Iraqi "insurgents" elect to stay fighting the Crusader or if they head for the hills (of Lebanon or elsewhere) for the latest round of war against the Jew. My guess is they will go with whichever they perceive as the softer opponent, while simultaneously declaring it the greater threat in order to save face. (For the record, I expect that will be us.)
And while many refer to Israel's "two-front war", apparently it's lost on one and all that it is the Jihaddis who are now facing a three-front (Israel-Iraq-Afghanistan) shooting war (albeit low-intensity) against the Crusaders and Jews.
But if their own publications are to be believed, this is exactly the "Savagery" the terrorists want. Those same manuals also indicate that "escalation" will come in the form of more terrorist attacks in locations removed from those current hot spots. It only takes a handful of goons to achieve that.
But all-out war between Israel, Iran, Syria, and whoever? Fugadabowdit.
-
Ok, Israel retaliated... Let see what's happened already:
1. About 50 Lebanon civilians were killed. No information about killed terrorists, but ok, let assume that there are few. But death of that 50 civilians generates hundreds of new terrorists - their children, relatives, neighbours, etc.
Only complete idiot can declare "war on terror", and it is my real thought about Bush, Putin and others. When they say "War on terror" I imagine nuclear warheads dropping on my drive-in to kill couple of car robbers. Or even serial killer, it doesn't matter.
You know how nuclear reaction works? One neutron initiates fission of one nucleus which produces several other neutrons which in their turn initiate other fissions and so on... There is no way to stop nuclear reaction trying to fission non-destructed nucleus, you will speed reaction up! STOP FISSION!
2. $5+ in oil prices, and it is just the beginning. Who will be affected more - developed world or poor Palestinians? And who will get profit - you or Arabs and "evil" Russia? BTW, I've started to think that Bush' election was sponsored by the Kremlin. Thanks to Bush's politics Russia got so much money for oil that they have almost restored economic and military power in few years. God, bless Bush!
3. Do you really think that killing hundred of Hezbollah members will solve anything? Israel has to destroy Syria, Iran and, mostly important, Saudi Arabia who actually is sponsor of terrorism to achive some effect! Do you really believek that the USA or Israel is ready to do that? Do you know how to feed and look after the horses? Do you have backyard big enough to feed couple of horses for transportation purposes?
Ok, it was long variant.

So, I suppose YOUR answer is to tolerate the acts of terrorism. Especially when they have no effect on you personally.
Because ignoring them doesn't work.
Being nice to them doesn't work.
Placating them doesn't work.
Treating them with respect doesn't work.
Reasoning with them doesn't work.
The more they escalate the issue, the more of them you kill.
By the way, yes, Israel has taken steps to minimize civilian casualties, and they have targeted and hit terrorist leaders of both Hamas and Hezbollah since this started.
Oh, and Hell yes I'll pay another dollar more for a freaking gallon of gas rather than stand by while an ally is attacked, and sure as Hell before I'll ask them to lay there and take it in the ass. Screw that.
And yes, I not only know how to look after the horses, I know where they are and how to saddle and ride them. I also know how to grow food, kill food, manufacture ammo, maintain weapons, and make tools. Along with building shelter.
If oil gets high enough, we'll just go ahead and make gas and oil out of alcohol, diesel out of vegatable oil, and I figure we can make the rest of the necessary lubricants out of various other substances. We can just build more nuclear power plants too. Mine more coal. Drill the ANWAR, and the Gulf of Mexico (especially since Castro is going to let China or Argentina do it anyway).
Works for me.

I have yet to see a source that shows that Israel has declared war.
I do see that Bush is being a big old hypocrit.
"U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice has called for Israel to exercise restraint and for the return of the two captured Israelis by Hezbollah. But U.S. President George W Bush said Israel has the right to defend itself, so long as the Lebanese government was not destabilized. "

The word is hypocrite.
And given the fact that Lebanon is pretty much infested by Hezbollah, how the Hell do you destabilize it? It's run by terrorists. They're by definition unstable.

I'm glad you're decision not to support them because they didn't wait for permission to defend temselves means squat when it comes to what the US will or won't do.

My answer - there is no such thing like terrorism in the world.
From your point of view, Hezbollah and Al'Qaida are terrorist , and the USA and Israel fight againns terrorism. Similar, for me Chechen rebels are terrorists, and we are right when killed Basaev.
But the problem is that they think exactly the same - we are terrorists, and they are fighting against terror. Where is difference between us? The USA (or Russia, or Israel, doesn't matter in this case) never killed civilians? I don't even want to say that actually all terrorist are "civilians", they are not serving in any army of any state. So, in the worst case they are criminal according to law, and have must be treated according criminal code and human rights. They should have right to lawyer, court, phone call, etc. If we kill them like wolfs from helicopters, tanks, planes violating our own laws they have all rights to use any methods to protect themself and protest against.
So forget about "we are good guys, and they are bad guys", we are absolutely the same.
But there is one difference between us.
They killed one of our guys, and we didn't get any additional resources from this death. May be some frustration in society, some kind of retalitaion, revenge.... we will kill some of them.... ok. But we lost one.
We kill one of them, and several others will replace him. More we kill more they blow in.
We will lose this game if we will act like now.
And regarding horses... ok, you will survive if you know so much. But first of all you will need to kill hundreds of you neighbours to get enough land to feed yourself and your family. Terrorists will be angels by the side of you...

Israel has every right to defend its borders against terrorist attacking and kidnapping thier soliders. Israel pulled ALL of their troops out of Gaza and Lebonon without anybody telling them they HAD to. This ment that Hazballah and Hamas didnt have a legal reason to attack their "occupiers". But now that Israel is back in both areas, they can claim self defence!! I say let Israel do what they want. They didnt start this round off "war". Hamas attacked Israel and captured an Israeli solider. So in turn Israel attacked Gaza to get their solider back. Hazballah attacks Israel and captures 2 more Israeli soliders, so Israel attacks back. Both these terrorist groups are responsible for what is going on, not Israel, they are only defending themselves. And let us not forget our Iranian friends whom launched a missile from Lebanon into Israel. Yep, thats right IRANIAN soliders launched MISSILES from Lebanon into Israel. It was mentioned on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News. So to those of you that are going to say "your making it up, get the facts!" Well, i did!!
God bless Israel and God give them Victory!!!
US has your back 110%!!

I don't have to kill anyone. We already own the land. Besides, over here there's plenty of land. I don't have to kill anyone, and I don't want to.
The rest of what you have to say is moral relativism, and I don't buy any of that B.S., so don't bother, you're wasting my time and yours. No, we aren't the same as Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the PLO, the PLA, Black September, or Al Queada. If you think you are the same as them, then put yourself in that group.

It means that you are against the war in Iraq where US struck houses, killed civilians? You are against Drezden and Hirochima bombing. You are against bombing Hanoi. You are pacifist!
Or you are not? May be you are just against enemy's actions like this, but when your country do that it is ok? When your country is bombing and killing civilians it is just accidental casualties. "Sorry, so happen, this is the war". But when enemies do the same it is terrorism. Do you forget that you have declared war on terrorism? Do you forget that Hezbollah and Hamas never signed peace with Israel? Or you have invented new type of war - your country in state of war but your enemy is not. So kind of one-way-war... Funny.

I wasn't alive during WWII and take no responsibility for anything that happened then.
I definitely do not support intentionally targetting civilians in Iraq. The US has exercised much caution to prevent collateral damage and has largely been successful. If we were of the same mindset as those terrorists you mentioned, Baghdad would be a sea of glass. Are you forgetting that we actually have the power these animals only crave?

:rofl :rofl :rofl
So, the PLO bomb in the pizza parlor "accidentally" killed civilians. When did pizza parlors become air force bases? Or are they naval bases.
So, the planes hitting the World Trade Center actually struck a military target, and the 3,000 civilian dead were "collateral" casualties.
Exactly how big is the steam shovel you're trying to heave that B.S. with?
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were industrial cities of a nation we were at war with, declared war between two recognized sovereign nations.
The same applies to Dresden.
And in both cases, the planes were military planes, with military markings from their nation of origin, flown by uniformed military crew.
Neither of the second two are remotely similar to the first two.
Once again, moral relativism is B.S. Plain and simple.
Hanoi was also a case of military planes, in military markings, flown by uniformed military crews.
In Iraq, great measures were and still are being taken to limit collateral damage and casualties. To the point where coalition soldiers are put at excessive risk and often do not return fire when fired upon from crowds of civilians or from mosques.
You show me any instances of Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the PLO, the PLA, or Al Queada even remotely attempting to limit collateral damage or casualties. Hell, their GOAL is collateral damage and casualties, and it has been from the beginning. Further, none of them are uniformed military personnel of any rtecognized sovereign nation.
So, your B.S. moral relativism doesn't wash, and your comparisons are not even close to valid.

In case of collapse, you have a LONG way to go to get to me. It'll be a Hell of a trip without mechanized transportation.
Your moral relativism is just that. Because it applies to you does not mean it applies to me. It does not.
You do not know that I am the same as anyone. You should be so wise as to not paint everyone with a broad brush.

I hate the fact that the US of (Motha F-in A) has to be the only one who will help them (isreal) but i see thing differently............
Hezbalhhaha(how ever spelled) seems like its a part of the Extreme Muslim ideals and basically picking on the little brother of the USA (stupid lil brother granted) But as stated before..................its basically a call for all out war! they hit the lil guy in the middle while the big guy(the USA) is busy fighting .... right next to Hezbalaha big brother(supporter and mistchifmaker) Iran.................... i see bad day ahead unless this is squeltched soon!

These attacks Isreal are carrying out right now are going exactly as intended by their enemies to lure them into an escalation of hostilities to unite and draw the other middle easter countries into the fray against Isreal
Let's hope so. We can squash the bunch all at once instead of one at a time.
Go Israel!
P.S. I cringe when I see Americans bagging on Canada. I've been to Canada many times(hockey) and have always been the recipient of cordial treatment. Some of their people may have differing views than ours(hey, everyone is entitled to an opinion) but Canada is a fine country!

Can anyone name a single small or large-scale war or terrorist=type event of the last 20 years that DIDNT involve radical Muslims? Overwhelming force in response to this crap is the only thing we can do that isn't interpreted as weakness on their part. If 1% of the world's Muslim population is radical terrorists, then we are fighting something akin to the Japan's and Germany's armies from WWII put togther

I am not sure what you were trying to do with the quotes here sparky, but there is a quote button, that will help next time.
You are aware the US is a big country on the left side of the Atlantic?
Israel is a small nation in the south eastern part of the Mediterranean, (you know south east of France and Italy? Italy is the country that looks like a boot).
Israel being its own nation can go to war over acts of war perpetrated against them, as I said before, if they do go to war I ( I=me, just your average Joe, not the US government)support them.
On the other hand, I (I=me, just your average Joe, again not the government) do not want to see the US lift a finger. The Israelis can handle this solo; they have done it in the past. Their Military is excellent.
I do not really see why I had to go over this again sparky, it's not that hard to follow try and keep up ok?

You might wanna ease up on the name calling and simply answer my question? I copy and pasted your comment exactly, big deal. My question remains, how will you support Israel if you would refuse any involvement by the US? That is what you meant right?
Perhaps your "full support" for Israel is void and without meaning? I'm sure Israel really appreciates worthless support like that.
