How fast do they retreat? Sorry - Just can't resist.
-
It's a shame we have to put the Blue and Red on the flag when they arrive.

"never need to worry about retreating blade stall" would have been teh betterer
-
"After decades of delivering to the US government and commercial operators, this is our first entry into the US military market,"
didnt knew that, but it looks like the US goverment loved the eurocopter
and now the US military should enjoy it too? :)

how fast you judge
design is european but chopper is manufactured by US company EADS North America.
Only parts produced in france are rotor blades and engines, after couple years this items will be manufactured in US too.

Who cares where it was made or who designed it? As long as it's the best; the U.S. deserves the best! :aok

This.
I've been through that American Eurocopter plant in Columbus, MS a few times. I've also worked in a flight research lab that leased space to Eurocopter to aid in their manufacturing, and got to meet some great people in the process. This contract will create many good jobs for good American people. Sure beats having both the contract and the manufacturing go overseas.
These are being built in Mississippi, not France.

You mean paint them white...

US goverment dont buy best. They buy lowest bidder.
-
I think he's saying they will already have an all white flag on them when they arrive.;)
-
Sorry to spoil the stupid and obvious jokes but Eurocopter is not French any more than Airbus is. Stop giving the bloody French the credit for every European aircraft! You all seem to think that everything out of Europe is French.
In fact the that helicopter is basically German being a descendant of the BK117 made by Kawasaki and MBB meaning Messerschmitt, Bolkow, Blohm. Yes folks the US army is buying Messerschmitts............... .
So the headline on this thread needs to change to:
US Army to fly German helicopters or US Army to buy Messerschmitts

WTH are you talking about?
From the article.
The contract is for the supply of up to 352 UH-145 light utility helicopters, initially 332, with an option to extend to 352," a spokesman at Eurocopter's headquarters in Marignane, near Marseille, told AFP
Friggin puddlejumper not attack craft.
