This is dreadful.
I found the Red Army Choir's 1977 version of the Soviet national anthem in MP3 format. Looking further I found the current Russian national anthem (it seems to be the same with some words changed) and MP3 files of several versions of it on the Russian Government's web site.
That got me thinking about our national anthem (USA) and I tried to find a good MP3 of Star Spangled Banner to match the wonderful performance of the Red Army Choir's rendition of the Soviet national anthem.
I couldn't find anything. It is very sad that the Russian government provides theirs and I couldn't find any decent MP3 of ours. :(
Can one of you help me out on this?
Thanks.

It's only 96kbps, but here ya go:
USMC Band performance of Star SPangled Banner (http://www.usmc.mil/band/m_bandcd.nsf/2c27a15bfd3a6753852567d300486244/91715a97d8b02c0d852567d3004dcaf0?OpenDocument)

IMHO the Russian anthem pales compared to the old Soviet Union anthem.
As far as the US anthem... try a search on Star Spangled Banner & Roseanne Barr.
-
I have one that Carl Lewis sang... oh... wait... you said good.

After some searching, I'd have to say no - there are no good MP3s, hell, no good RECORDINGS of the US Nat'l Anthem. What an awful song. And that's said with a lot of love for the ol' US of A.

I prefer the Hendrix version.

Jimi's version is good but so is one performed by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
Fusion you know ;)

I think the US should invade Canada. Then the name of the US can be changed to Canada, and we can use "Oh Canada" which beats the crap out of "Star Spangled Banner". The former Canada will be renamed "Northern Mexico". All copies of the french version of "Oh Canada" will be destroyed, along with the "Star Spangled Banner". The Northern Mexico anthem will be some godawful screeching by Geddy "Thank God for Karaoke Mode" Lee.

Nash,
There isn't a whole lot of difference between the two:
Soviet National Anthem (http://www.skazka.no/anthems/anthem-sovietunion-1977.mp3)
This one is from the Russian governemnt's web site:
Russian National Anthem (http://www.gov.ru/main/symbols/gimn_rf_t3.mp3)
Staga,
Nice link. Thanks.
Still no decent US National Anthem recordings though.

hi you will find many different versions here you have to download software 600kb registration is free good hunting http://www.audiogalaxy.com/list/searches.php?SID=3ec8ea2347441ba1dd1ab67ebbe7b0fb&searchType (http://www.audiogalaxy.com/list/searches.php?SID=3ec8ea2347441ba1dd1ab67ebbe7b0fb&searchType)

Funked,
I like your idea, but would take it one step further. Once the invasion is successful, I would strongly urge that we then surrender, and aside from the aforementioned changes all government functions and bodies be put under Canadian, er 'Northern Mexican', law.
Btw, 'Internationale' kicks ass. As does 'Sacred War'.

We have Red Green working on new border defence contract. You wouldnt stand a chance.

Karnak - the new Russian anthem I've heard is completely different. The one you have in your link as being the Russian anthem is the old Soviet anthem. Afaik there's a new one for Russia. Maybe one of these Russian guys will know what's what. I've got both versions downloaded if yer interested.
Either way the Winter Olympics are just around the corner... the world be bracing itself in anticipation - which version *will* they play?

Nash,
If you listen, the words are slightly different.
In any case, that is the anthem provided by the Russian government's site and dated "2000". They also have two instumental versions.
-
If the site with the Russian anthem is dated 2000, then it's the wrong one. The Russian gov't. recently elected to reinstated the Soviet national anthem as their anthem. Of course, the words will be changed a bit.
-
Hmm... no - I'm talking about a completely different anthem altogether - not just changed words. The only simularity is the time signature... maybe the key... other than that it's totally different. I got it off a Russian site that said this anthem was instated in 1993. The version of the anthem you have in your links I have also got, the last date being 1978. The former was titled "Anthem of Russia" and the latter titled "Anthem of Soviet Union". I have no idea which is what... but they are two totally different anthems. There's also a "new" Russian anthem dated 2000 (update of the 1993 version maybe - I didn't listen to it). Leonid says they've gone back to the old Soviet version... good decision.
Have a listen. The 1993 "Russian" version sucks with reckless abandon. :)

Well, it certainly would be logistically easier to handle. Just duct tape and whatever junk you happen to find lyin' around...
;)
-
Nash,
heh. The Soviet national anthem I linked to was that site's.
If you listen to the one listed as "Anthem of Russia (new)" and go to the link to the three other versions (that is the Russian governemt's site) you'll hear the current Russian national anthem.
-
One can say much about the Soviet Union that is negative...
but the '77 version kicks everything else's arse.
The US national anthem seems like a pale soap opera compared to this one, which has *power*.
-

I have of course a MP3 of Geddy doing "Oh Canada" for the World Series. It's cool, low key, and a sweet rendition of that hideous song.
If you continue to bag on Mr. lee, I will be forced to call upon my Paintshop Pro/ Adobe Photoshop powers and publically dog your bellybutton ten-fold.
Say RUSH is Gods, I'll not submit the humiliation.

StSanta,
I agree that the 1977 recording of the Soviet national anthem sung by the Red Army Chorus is very, very good. It is probably the most powerful sounding national anthem that I know of. That said, there is a certain fondness for the national anthem of one's own country.
The site that I got the 1977 mp3 from had this ammusing quote on it:
As you can clearly see, Russian anthem technology
is vastly superior to that of any other country.

. O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good
With brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
2. O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stem impassioned - stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend shine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul
In self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
3. O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success
Be nobleness
And every gain divine!
4. O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good
With brotherhood
From sea to shining sea! 5. O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair
As earth and air
And music-hearted sea!
6. O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America ! America !
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought
Through wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!
7. O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice, for man's avail
Men lavished precious life !
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain
No longer stain
The banner of the free!
8. O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men
Keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

If not that than this
Verse 1: Let martial note in triumph float
And liberty extend its mighty hand,
A flag appears, 'mid thund'rous cheers,
The banner of the Western land
The emblem of the brave and true,
Its folds protect no tyrant crew,
The red and white and starry blue,
Is Freedom's shield and hope.
Verse 2: Let eagle shriek Form lofty peak,
The never-ending watch-word of our land.
Let summer breeze waft through the trees
The echo of the chorus grand.
Sing out for liberty and light,
Sing out for freedom and the right,
Sing out for Union and its might,
Oh patriotic Sons!
First Chorus: Other nations may deem their flags the best
And cheer them with fervid elation,
But the flag of the North and South and West
Is the flag of flags, The flag of Freedom's nation.
Trio Chorus: Hurrah for the flag of the free,
May it wave as our standard forever,
The gem of the land and the sea,
The Banner of the Right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor,
Proclaim'd as they march'd to the fray,
That by their might, and by their right it waves forever!
