Title: Where NOT to be in Aces High at 2AM
Post by: Guppy35 on July 16, 2006, 03:07:38 AM
Got mixed into a furball between Bish and Knits with BKs, 80th and some others having at it with the Bish.

In the midst of it I was chasing a N1K and was closing nicely, but hadn't fired, wanting to get to within about 200 before firing.  Next thing you know there are tracers whipping past me on every side and I think for sure I'm going to get clobbered......but no it's Raptor, Slapshot, Stang, Bugzapper and Doolittle all shooting past me to get the N1K with is just out front of me.  I of course got the assist :)

Doggone killstealers!  :)  You'd think by the image that they were all trying to shoot me....then again maybe they were?

Sort of reminds me of the old Jerry Clower story about sitting at the Ledbetter's table looking at the last piece of chicken.

Never reach for the last piece of fried chicken with your hand.

Bleh!  I know this thread was posted in good humor.  But, that screenshot should win the AH-equivalent of the Pulitzer because it exposes the biggest weakness in today's community--the horde mentality.

It is so ridiculous to see 5 a/c all firing at the same target--especially when the primary fighter (Guppy, in this case) is already locked into position.

I'm sure my score would be better if I didn't TRY to hold fire when I'm not in the primary position.  I'm guessing, though, that our top scorers are willing to fire whenever a target is within 1,000 feet.

Chivalry is so dead today.

A couple months ago I was in a big fight over a Bish base, I THINK it was OzKansas. Well, I've been BnZing through the furball so I'm sort of high onthe pile  in an F4U and see a friendly going vertical with a Spixteen on his six.

I roll in to dive to build up steam and get a good position, then pull up into the Spit's 6-low blindspot, ~d800 out. I've got him boresighted and dead to rights, just waiting to get him in convergence, and RIGHT as I hit D400 (my guns are set at 350) and am JUST twitching my finger to fire when some chump starts firing from d1k over my shoulder (so he's almost 2k out from the con!). The Spit breaks and gives up on our friendly, but I lost a perfect kill.

That exact thing happens to me at least once a flight. No shortage of sprayers in AH...

In all fairness to the guys around me.  We were joking about stealing kills the entire time and having a ball so no one in that picture was doing anything wrong outside of playing along with the joking we were doing.  One of the reasons I got the assist, besides my lousy shooting, was that I was laughing so hard knowing the tracers were all good guys trying to get there first :)

All were very good at clearing bad guys of other guys tails and covering those in trouble.  I'd happily dive into a pile of enemy fighters with those guys anytime.

It was about the only decent fight going at that time of the night and thankfully no one had flattened the FHs yet, which had happened not too long earlier at the other decent fight going, effectively killing it.

He knows this game is to be taken seriously. We are fighting an important war over our homelands after all. Theres not, under any circumstances, to be any form of fun or joking around! Do not make any friends (youll only see them die) and especially do not pay respect to friends or foe...

>>S<< Dan and the rest of the 80th - had a fun time busting fights with you last night. Im sorry i had to leave you alone in the end, but it was 2am ;)  for me already.

WRONG !!! ... it was the mighty "MildCat" that brought the N1K to its demise.

Had a blast that night Dan.

As Dan pointed out, we ALL knew what the game was (kill stealing) during those battles and I too was laughing my bellybutton off watching each guy unload on it's pray hoping to get the explosion before the rest of the crowd swooped in for the steal.

Dan realizes that no matter how many times he gets killed ... there will always be a brand spankin' new plane waiting for him in the hangar ... it may be frustrating at times, but death nevers leads to a meltdown.

He (and I) can get killed 10, 20 times in a row ... not a big deal ... it's that 1 great fight in the 10, 20 times that makes it all worth it and keeps ya comin' back.

Well ... truth be told ... I do that on purpose cause I know you have a hard time getting kills so when I fly around you, I act as bait and drag them by ya hoping you will take advantage of the situation.

:) :D ;) :p

Like the time a few of us were defending a base (OZKansas) a couple of months back.   I notice a lone dot in a sea of red, I hear "aahhhh, I may need a little help." (as Mars, Jaxx, and Stang had bought it)   I dove and peeled a couple off, but the con on your 6 got you and as you went, I got him.   Keep in mind, I've had my "Hey Slap, do you think you could help me?" moments as well.

Regardless of what some say about the BK's I have had nothing but fun with you guys.  It's good to see other's that try to make the most out of this game.
