I had a very horrible Friday night and Saturday morning so, Saturday night, not really wanting to target practice, dogfight (or in my case going back to the tower about once a minute), but I did want to fly. Turned on some calming music and took a P47 all over the map doing slow rolls, turns, flying inverted, managed to pull off an outside loop, and just.... FLEW.
Anybody else use AH instead of Xanax for stress relief in this manner?
-
I always just fly, i'll go maybe a half sector then I get to take off and just fly again. :D

Dichotomy one thing that you can do if you just want to relax is fly offline, take off from a field and then just practice flying through hangers ALWAYS keeping the hanger in view.
It gets you familier with all your views to where they become second nature and it teaches you how to be easy and fluid with the stick. Pick one hanger and work on setting the next pass up as you fly through.
Very relaxing. You end up doing lazy loops setting up different hangers.
-
I use Micrsoft Flight simulator 2004 for this. Alot of times i'll fly the Wings of Power Mustang, P-47 or Focke wulf i have, which i believe are the most accurate flight sim flight models ever to be devised. Alot of other games are just a joke, besides in AH the scenery sucks, not in FS 2004 though, it's as close to real world flying as you'll get. :D

Fly 234s through hangers always good for fun.

I'll try the flying through the hangers for sure but I was using my views quite a bit, doing low passes between mountains, and such. It was just... mellow. Wish I had a real plane to do that with but I'd already be a greasy spot somewhere in North Texas if I did. :)

Get the Japan map and just fly it offline looking at the scenery. That is an awsome map.
By the way I do it all the time.:aok
-
Grab the japan map, launch A88 and head South.
Can you say Tsunami??
-
first you must master the hangers and VH, then move onto landing on the water tower or playing with the wind and time of day.
night time is real fun.
LOL - man, first time i d/l Ah1, i loaded up the offline arena and spent a good 30 mins looking for AI enemy planes to shoot down :) back in those days we had the HTC crew circling the field as friendlies.

If I'm not in the mood for the 200 crowd, or just feel like winding down, sometimes I'll hop on offline and do the hanger flying stuff or pick a map and see what I can find, running on the deck or as you mention dodging hills and trees.
Raptor's Japan1 map is a beauty for exploring on the deck.
-
anyone ever find thos long avenues between thick forrest?
you are cruising down them at 300mph in your favorite plane and up ahead comes two trees in the path.....so....you just gotta do a knife edge pass and 'return of the jedi' those 200 foot tall apple trees.

Been there, done that..... In a Spit though.
Havent managed to have the same amount of luck in a HMk1 yet.... FH is the best i done in that one.
Dichotomy, its all a matter of practice. Try upright first. If you feel comfy doing that, try inverted..... give it a few hundred tries, suddenly it will work and you wont know what you found so difficult about it at first.
Its a matter of knowing your planes dimensions, judging the distances and dimensions of hangar and fine control of your AC.

Schatzi... indeed... I'm practicing or flying at least 1.5 hours a day now after the little ones are down. My beloved she devil and I made a deal about me playing (her suggestion). If I'm only practicing alone I leave the earpiece that faces her chair off my ear so we can watermelon chat. If I'm training or actually doing something in one of the arenas I tell her I'm going to when I get home and she leaves me alone. Excellent avoidance of spouse ack.. but she's pretty cool anyway :)
-
Hey, any chance of her getting an account too? I could need some help! :D
Tell her chasing your man around the arenas can be much fun - better then wife ack actually :t
-
I wish... she's so competative and smart if she got into it I think she'd enjoy it but it's a no go. She has her makeup hobby and her msg boards she posts on. She told me to get the vid card and play on the 36" Flat Screen but I'm afraid the motion sickness would cause her to leave the office and I like her next to me :D Although *and an idea jumps into my evil head* I might get her to jump in your plane on my account some night and you can show her whats up...
what's hotter than a female pilot?
nothing :D

Nice pic
The other night, we took over a Bish base fairly quickly. We had about 20 guys buzzing the field or going thru hangars.
Wanting to be involved, I wanted to whisk thru one with my Ar234, RATO's blazing.
Sadly, I chose the one hangar that didnt have the doors open on the *other* side.
Pretty impressive to see a long smoke trail...then nothing.
Sure heard about that one for a few minutes ;)

Pfft. Do that in an A20, then I'll be in awe.
;)
-
i usually go into the TA and practice landing F4U's on the runway and CV. or i'll try and help a noob or two if i can.
-
ok where is the japan map...
It's not up on the terrain download page. It can be found up on the SEA typically if another event isn't running.
At times I am available to host a H2H and let it download, but that's rather infrequently. If it's up for H2H download Ill post the name of the room Japan Download or something coded like that :)

When you guys changed the map and made everyone re-download it right before the beta test, that was fun.
Not really.
:aok
It's a fantastic map.
Love the air spawns.
-
yeah...sometimes i get bored so i take a low-alt fighter up to about 25 or 30 k and just try to keep it in the air....fun stuff
-
so, um, flying through?

For all the noobs.. I've been playing for about a week... you can DO EET!!!

Didn't realize people spent so much time just looking at the terrain. Glad y'all like Japan so much. When it is updated I'll have to put in some hidden goodies ;)
-
I'll be DL that for sure :)

You mean.... like GODZILLA!!?!?? That would be so awesome.
The terrain is half the game. That's why I get bored flying around out in the ocean :)
We flew the beta and ROC had us doing circles in the middle of nowhere. Yawn.

Not putting Aces High down, but, when I just fly, I use IL2 Pacific Fighters or IL2 Forgotten Battles. Its a little more realistic I guess, and the scenery is very relaxing. I always just - fly.
But don't get me wrong... IL2 does not match Aces High at all in two aspects: Gameplay, and ofcourse the most important, the Community - all of YOU!
Thank you everyone.

LoL, ill take that as a compliment :).
If you see me online, dont hesitate asking me for a spot in my cockpit or a wing - you or your wifey are always welcome.
But enter at your own risk - despite my reputation, i die a LOT.
-
Yep,
Once after the wife ack ripped some holes in me I went to the TA and took an ME-163 up to see how high I could get.
72,000 and a bit more.
Try it, it's a blast
-
Schatzi
We'll take you up on it :D
-
nope
-
I just fly alot.
Load up a rare plane and fly to 20k over enemy territory and come home. Sometimes I pretend they are reconnisence missions :-)
-
try flying a C-47,B17,B24 through hangers I've done it:aok
-
Last night, out of sheer boredom I took a few Jap paper planes out to see if I could land on top of the indestructible hangar and a bomber hangar. No success so far.:D

Flying through Hangers? You guys are prime candidates for the AHXARLeague. Go here: http://ahevents.org and click on the AHXARL link. There are weekly race tracks that you can follow and practice. Every Tuesday night we have an organized race in the Special Events Arena. Check it out. The races are not that relaxing, but practicing the tracks on your own might be. The races are just fun. I almost enjoy spectating as much as racing. Heck, if you are lucky, you might be part of IkeProf's regular racing video.
Here is a sample. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6884566172071912326

Flying through hanger, hmm.
one time, at drylands, in a FFA i was flying through a FH in a sustaind constant ovlaish loop, and i got 2 kills on unsuspecting passersby, eventually i got like 2 or 3 guys chasing me through the loop and we were all goin through the hangar, good fun. (wish i had screens)

The heavies will only fit through BH, not FH. Im not sure about the C47.... you gotta test it by taxiing through.
