Title: Flaps
Post by: cav58d on July 17, 2006, 04:55:38 PM
Was flying a P-47D25...Was in the vertical with full flaps out...got both flaps shot off, yet the aircraft continued to have the drag of having full flaps down???  Is this a bug?

On all planes if you get flaps shot off while they are down, they continue to work as if they were stuck in the position in which they were shot off. I dont know if that is a bug, but its been that way for a loooong time.

I wish it would be addressed and fixed....I was in the P47 at like 9k, both flaps shot off (but magically still there), in a near vertical dive to the deck and I barely broke 300 mph

At least you didn't compress. :D

Actually, I was in a P-38 today and  took a bad hit, and all the sudden my plane was flying like I'd lost part of a wing. I looked over and yet there it was, intact except for the missing aileron.

Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot? Methinks there be some glitches in the damage model.

the deal is your flaps are not shot off even tho they look like it. they are damaged and stuck in the down posission. hench the drag!

P38 Flaps are different than P47 Flaps, with the P47 part of the wing folds down. With the P38, part of the underside moves down and back (increasing wing area... aka "uber UFO flaps")
But I agree that when the flaps are removed, you should no longer recieve lift from it.

Um. I think you were misinterpreting what I was saying.

MY flaps weren't hit. My plane was flying like I'd had half the right wing blown off but when I visually checked it was intact. The only place the lost wing showed up was in the damage display.

I've lost wing tips and it displays, just press the "page up" button when looking towards the missing wing.

there is a glitch with the dmg model though. Lost a wing on my ki61 today. But it showed only the wingtip missing

just thought of another flap thing, any bullet holes in the flap spots will stay there even if your flap is missing =P
