Hey, all those of you who created the JG54 skins for the Bf-109 E4, Bf-109 F4, Bf-109 G2, Fw-109 A5, and Fw-190 A8, where did you get the visual pictures for those skins? Im looking for any information on that squadron, and i was hoping any books or websites that had pictures would also have some info.
-
Google (http://www.google.com)
-
That was the first thing I did. I got 750,000 pages of things that had nothing to do with JG54. I figured there was nothing there after the top three where stock market browsers, and about 75 pages in i still hadnt found anything to do with the Luftwaffe. I figure those who made the skins surely know the sites, and can save me hours off of google.

Try "Jg 54 190" or "Jg 54 109", then look at the pics part of the responses.
Usually following the good pics back to their home pages can net you some good sites.
-
i still get a bunch of unrelated stuff. :cry

Google Advanced (http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en)
-
Ah, never thought of that. Thanks sir!

http://www.jg54greenhearts.com/
first listing :)

Thanks. Genious as always Guppy!

One hint, you have to think like a webmaster. What would he name his site to have information about the things you are looking for? Then type that into google, try a few combinations, and bingo.:)
-
Well, i would name it after the info available. And that didnt work...
-
hehe KAZAA. Use GOOGLE Image search Reynolds - Skinners Best Friend. Better than spending hours thumbing through books at Borders.

Not really. Google image search is the "fast and dirty" way. Never mind the fact that the things it turns up might be flat-out wrong (It is the InterWebamaJiggy), but it lacks a lot. It's limited to only the popular images that are put up. For example you'll be hard-pressed to find decent non-smoke-ring Macchi images on google. I know. I tried.
So it helps, but you find a lot more in books. I had one color profile of one plane I wanted to skin for a while, but no details. Checked a book out of the library, and got 3 detailed photographs of it! I'll be skinning it soon :)
-
Well, im not after pictures, more along the lines of details.

What does that mean? I found a bunch of C.20X images on Google Images just putting in "Macchi." :huh

True for planes but for GVs it's a different story especially the Ostwind. The Tiger Tank probably has the most hard copy documentation available.

They either all look like:

(smoke rings)
or they all look like:

(block pattern -- green and tan can be switched for each other)
We have those already in AH. There are other patterns with greys, with stripes, hell even some with yellow noses and overspraying, etc. I've got some scans from a book (from Gatt) and I'll be using them to make a skin. However these are not available through an online search, for the most part.
