Woot!!! just finishing up almost 12 hours of watching college football (which was preceded by 2 hours of World Cup Qualifying soccer, damn yanks lost...)
Early prediction... Polls are almost right. Florida and Miami in the Rose Bowl, but Miami will come out on top. I just hope my Noles can be the fly in the ointment and knock one of them off, if not both of them! :D (last year I picked Oklahoma and FSU in the Orange after week 1, but with FSU winning.)
wow!!! great game in Oregon right now! Was a great game in Alabama! ahh, I love fall in the USA!!
-
Bah, those pantie waist Florida schools don't have a prayer vs Oklahoma.
OU will win another National Championship.....easily defeating whichever namby pamby Florida team they face.
(IF one even makes it to the Rose Bowl) :p
Florida teams play like l'il girls!

I'm with Nifty, except I know for a fact Bobby will lay waste to those other two overrated Florida schools.
Just upset the BCS is in the Rose Bowl this year. Who the hell wants to go to LA?

(I don't care if we lose every other game this year. Coach Dick is gone!)

Ugh, my freakin' Nittany Lions are going to have a very depressing season this year. Damn, I never expected myself to consider rooting for my other alma mater, the Fighting Illini, just to take the edge off. :(
Well, I always have memories of '94 to hold onto. :)

Hehe. I'm no bandwagon sissy, I just recognize that PSU is gonna be mediocre this year. Because of that, the Illini may receive more of my attention this season - doesn't mean I won't stop cheering on my Nittany Lions. :)
WE ARE PENN STATE! (Lamest cheer ever, but I don't care!)

Here's a little poll to go along with this thread...
Is the team you're cheering for actually your Alma Mater?
FSU class of '96 here. I can't cheer for the school I got my master's at, because well, they don't have a football team! ;)
Oh, Jihad, sorry but I don't see ya beating both Nebraska and Texas this year. You'll have to hope other teams get a loss and pray yours doesn't come in the Big 12 Championship game (a la Nebraska losing to Texas in 96... making us play Florida again, and getting trounced!!) for you to make it to the Rose Bowl.
Eagler, you're playing Ohio. They shouldn't even be in Div IA. ;) Granted we've got UAB this week, but... UAB was 7-4 last year (beating LSU in Baton Rouge) and returning 19 starters. Anyways, I give Florida and Miami credit. They start a home and home series next year. Finally, the 3 big Florida schools all play each other in the regular season again!
-
Only reason we even have UAB is because Auburn backed out of our contract.
What's UF's excuse of that mockery of a football game they have this weekend? :)

ACC is a gurlie conference.

Dunno but I'll watch until its 45 - 0 :)
I went to USF here in Tampa but have always been a gator fan as was my brother.

You can be forgiven for being a Gator supporter then. The Bulls just don't have much of a football program! ;) In fact, didn't they just start their football program in the last few years?
Well, at least the Gators aren't playing the Citadel this year. LOL!
Fatty, UAB is a far better football team than Duke is this year. They're not a bad replacement at all for Auburn. It's a good step on the way to playing the Ramblin' Wreck next week! BTW, you ever make it over to Tallahassee for games?
-
Yep, but that's a conference game at least. Comparable I'd say to oh, Kentucky perhaps, or Vanderbilt. The question is what you do outside of your set schedule. At least they're still willing to play us. Anyway makes for good debate in Tallahassee, lot of Gators still left there from the pre-bowden days. If they ever put Miami back on the schedule, we'll have less to rag about.
On occasion I get back for a game, usually 1 a year. It's harder since Spurrier whined about the date of our matchup and got it changed away from thanksgiving weekend, so I can't kill both those with 1 flight anymore.
When the UF game is away that means UM is at home, but going to miss that this year for the con (yes, I will be seated prominantly in the bar, imbibing rigorously). If dates are screwy, sometimes GaTech or Clemson makes a good game for a Tallahassee visit.
Religously I meet my brother for the bowl games though. I've actually been trying to back off that lately, but since we've had a strong BCS run lately I haven't been able to back out (yes, I was at that nightmare in Miami last year, but I was also at the celebration in New Orleans the year before).
By the way, the Miami game this year (at home) is the 10 year anniversary of FSU's last home loss (Miami, Wide Right I) :D
-
Well Fatty and Nifty how did ya like seeing my UAB alma mater (also school I played ball for when they first started the football program 10 years ago) play a decent penalty riddled game?
As for the reason that you only had UAB this past weekend is that we never back down from a challenge in a game. The team knew they were out matched talent wise but they never gave up.
Go Blazers! Next Pitt goes down!
-
That's what UCF has been doing too Reschke, and what FSU did when Bobby first arrived latter 70s and early 80s. If you want to get there, that's the best way.
I've watched the Blazers sneak up on folks for a while now in basketball, but have to admit I was suprised they were pushing so quickly in football (ironic that they replaced Auburn on the schedule, and in a down Auburn year with an up UAB year, SI had them ranked similarly strength wise).
-
yeah Fatty, but SI also had Oregon State ranked #1. Also, they had Pitt #28 and USF #116. Guess who won that game?? Speaking of USF... Hey Eagler, how 'bout them Bulls??? :D
Reschke, I replied to ya in the other thread on the game itself. :) I'm glad we had UAB on the schedule and not Auburn. A 7-4 team returning 19 starters that beat LSU in Baton Rouge is a tough team in my book. LSU destroyed Georgia Tech in the bowl game last year too, so it's not like LSU is pond scum. ;) Cool that you played for them! I got some playing time at FSU myself. Of course the only time I played on the field was during halftime! ;)
