Title: Day of defeat
Post by: ~Caligula~ on September 02, 2001, 08:21:00 AM
I haven`t been playing AH for financial reasons.I miss it I admit, but betatesting IL2 keeps me entertained as far as flightsims go.
Besides IL2 I`ve been playing the Half-Life mod Day of Defeat a lot as well.
I have a network with my roomates, and we`d go on the same server, try to work together,or cap one another.
Great fun,and it`s lot more reallistic than it seems at first look.
Requires great skills, and tactics to have a good frags to death ratio.
I recommend it to all,it`s a good break from AH,when You just need that time away from it.

See You in Caen fraggin` your bellybutton with my trusty MG44 assault-rifle.

It's the only game apart from AH that I play. The soldiers don't take ridiculously huge amounts of hits to die, and there's some brilliant maps out there (Caen, Radar, Cherbourg and Omaha are my personal favourites).

In terms of fun value, it beats the more realistic WW2OL hands down.

I love DoD. If you ever find a Lt. Col. Texace in the WotC servers that's me....

Infiltration just pains me... it should be so cool, and I can't figure out why online it just blows...  how is 2.86?

DoD is fun, but everyone runs at 30mph... but I still play this one... Terrific weapons models, good sounds... good fast fun!

2.86 changed a lot of game play. No more instand prone. Many issues changed, just visit site and see for your self.

Day of defeat is indeed great.
I love those firefights in which you don't know how it's gonna end.

At first everything seems safe, the next moment a grenade blows your head off.  :)

And of course, lots of other things that can happen.

It scared me so bad i jumped out of my chair.

Yep
I got nice 4.1 surround speakers.
I was on the caen map one day, sniping in one of those windows upstairs at the plaza. All the sudden I hear steps closing from behind.I turn around, and sure there`s a allied dude with a tommy-gun jumps in the room.I nailed him right between the eyeballs.

What a blast.

It's a free multiplayer mod for Half Life, like Counter Strike, but based in the WWII and with different rules (no more players jumping like Heidi  :D)

Mmmmmm... it's "based in" or "based on"?

A bit of both.

I just got some cambridge soundworks 1800 4.1 speakers, and I know what yer talking about now Caligula.  Damn fun!

Do any of you use gamespy when you play?

We should all add onto each others buddy lists so we might find some people who are willing to team up.  You can search for me under 'Kratzer', email address is lefevre@qwest.net... I *think*... at work now.

I think you can buy the COUNTER-STRIKE box. I beleve that it has a bunch of MOD's in it.
DoD, FA, HL, AHL?  etc...

DoD isn't in the counterstrike box, but you can buy counterstrike and install DoD with it.

Keep in mind that whichever version you get, you will be downloading a great big patch for half life, and DoD itself, which is about 100MB.

OH, and you can check it out here: www.dayofdefeatmod.com (http://www.dayofdefeatmod.com/)

And now a commercial:
If any of you have a group that plays, check out ETO for DoD (http://eto.dayofdefeatmod.com/) which I developed for them as a clan 'war' system - should be fun when the admins get it rolling!

I advise not to buy the Counter-Srtike modpack. You can download it for free, than why pay for it?
Just get the regular Half-Life CD,than download the mods.

Kratzer, are You gonna have a dedicated server running?I`m interested in joining a clan, axis preferrably,I hate the sound of the M1 garant, and wanna kill all that tryes to frag me with that   :)
