Title: New FPS MMO-semi RPG
Post by: Ack-Ack on July 19, 2006, 05:10:04 PM
Saw this game first at E3 and it looked pretty cool, a free FPS MMO with some RPG elements.

The open beta was finally released a few days ago so I thought I'd give it a try.  It plays and looks a lot like Battlefield 2 but with persistant servers (or at least will have them after game goes "live").  It's from the same studio that made and runs Knights Online.

So if you're looking for a decent online FPS game and don't want to spend any $$$, check it out.

System reqs (http://warrock.net/game_guide/system_requirements.php) don't seem awful bad.

Most common tactic I saw once things had gotten in a bit was sneaking up to the enemy spawn area and getting down on the ground and just waiting for people to spawn out.

I have to give it to them though.  The vehicles look nice and you can tell one side from the other even at a fair distance.  It was fun.  I played it for several hours last night.

I ran about 50/50 on getting the spawn campers before they got me last night.   was expecting it to be much worse.

Had fun with it...but it is a bit cheesy.....way too much run and roll going on

Its a good diversion from the daily grind....the big upside for me is .....

ITS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I had fun spawn camping in a Weasel or whatever the heck it is.   Also its fun to watch the rag doll effect when you blast someone away when you get in an MBT and go rolling through town.  Not enough hand grenades though for popping ambushes on sniper teams trying to get around into your rear area on maps like Emblem.

I saw this on a large map I was playing on last night.  Was playing a scout and had myself perched on a hill top over looking an enemy base and saw this guy do one of those tuck rolls from the enemy base all the way to one of our nearby bases.  I put a round through his head as soon as he stood up though but was still funny to see.

Experience points are a ***** to get.

I get errors every time I try to fool around with the practice on the Montana map.

I've never tried the training in it, could be that since this is only a beta that offline play might not be enabled yet.

Evidently it's online somehow, I had to "connect" before I could get there. I wanted to do a little training to get used to what was going on and the controls, I hate to just wander into something with no practice at all, and not knowing what's going on.

The last time it just plain locked up, I almost had to reboot to get it shut down.

I may fool with it some more later this evening.

really enjoyable arcade shooter.

we should make an aceshigh assualt team.

i'm fink00 and always play on the other two, not 'mission mode'

I've kinda gotten to like Mission Mode, but ...........

For some reason even though I always choose the west coast server, I get lumped in with a bunch of Italians that barely speak English.  :huh

Maybe its the timezone thing.  But what are all these Italians doing on the California server??

I'm definitely learning what soldier to choose based on the map.  Mission mode is almost always the Medic.  If I'm in the infantry maps I want to be a Sniper for Montana, Heavy Weapons for Emblem and the one with the helicopters ...........

anyone bought any weapons upgrades yet?

was looking it over and it seems there is some better stuff available, (for a price).

I have not tried mission mode, might need to look in on that.

btw...I'm, ummm....blkknit :p

I've tried the weapons upgrades.  At this time, they are mostly worthless.  The only ones I've gone from a 3 day purchase to the long term 30 day purchase on are .........

The sub-machine gun pistol replacement.  BIG help over the standard issue .45 thats for sure, plus having an auto that fires that fast can be a life saver.

There is one rifle thats a slot 3 upgrade for Medic, Engineer and whatever they call the guy with the floppy hat.  Useful upgrade.

If you play on a map that uses helicopters alot, you might consider the Stinger for the Heavy Weapons guy.  Having a heat seeker is a big help.

What they really need for the Heavy Weapons man is a M-60 or equivalent so he can lay down some serious firepower.  Having just a RPG or a pistol is not much of an option.  Also he needs something other than mines for his slot 4.  Grenades or SOMETHING.  Mines are useless.

Also need something for the standard trooper with a grenade launcher or something to make his firepower heavier than the medic and engineer, and give him more than just the 2 grenades.

if youre sniper inclined, you definitely want the PSG upgrade.

for combatants you'll need the M4 or G36.

What server(s) are you playing on, and at what times? Any particular side?

I've been on both east coast and west coast servers, usually in the evenings....no particular room.  I have hard time telling anything about the rooms anyway

It is pretty unrealistic aquashrimp, but then it is just a game.  IMO there are many out there that are better, but its still a fun time killer ;)

Thanks for the upgrade guidance guys.  Not sure if I am even gonna bother with it, but I might (hard to resist the "new gun temptation") :)

Would you rather have some guy come to your house and put a double tap into your body as you play?

After almost 2 weeks of this, I started to get bored with it and then I discovered a whole new world of fun.

Sniping for dollars.

Or Dinars, in this case.

The game rewards you based on kills and on flag captures (in the appropriate rooms).  After having a couple of really good players hand me my prettythang over and over again, I studied their tactics and realized I could not only advance myself in the game this way, but I could really annoy the crap out of a whole lot of people and ruin their nights.  Ever since, the game has taken on whole new worlds of fun for me.  I now spend my afternoons making 12 year olds cry like babies!  :)

I am teh 1337 snipah!!

:rofl

My record so far on the 'Pargona' level with a max of 32 players stands at a whopping 14 klls before the got me:)

I like to hide under the main helipad structure and paitiently wait for a standing target to get a head shot off without anyone seeing me.

i love this game in small doses, a few hours sniping just before bed always gives me funny dreams.

Oh I agree, it gets boring quick.  But I run at least a couple of times a night after work just to wind down blowing things up and sniping people.  Emblem is fun but too many others have the sniper idea on that one too.  My favorite right now is in the Mission mode on the Velruf map, getting down in the sandy drainage area and hiding behind a pile of sand, getting just far enough out to make the shot and then ducking back.  Drives em absolutely nuts.  I had some medic that kept trying over and over to shoot me when I'd pop out, I'd get one shot on her and she'd duck down and heal up, then try again.  We kept it up almost until time ran out.  All she had to do was duck down and go around the wall, but I guess playing a blonde character must be indicative of the person behind it.  I finally killed her and 3 of her buddies who thought the wall was good cover lol.  If just one had run across the street out of my field of fire and thrown a grenade, I'd have been toast.  Then they called me cheater and hacker lol.  Gotta love kids.  :rofl
