You got the new BMW Rip? You look much better now that you shaved your beard, grew out your hair and started wearing a skirt.

Hehe Deja! Thks!
No, car won't arrive til Sat. , dealer prep puts it at a Mon or Tues delivery at best...possibly will be down *maybe* end of next week, but not the week-end, wife works that week-end.

Mason: "Don't move your controls so rapidly"

Yeah, the pic set is a lot better later on, after that cheesy car isn't in the pics anymore.
-
that girl looked down-right confused.
i think an appropriate bmw girl should have 4 inch heels, lots of shiney leather, a whip and a desert in her stare - not some bimbo fresh off the latest "college girls gone wild" video. nice car though!
:D
-
Sure the car is nice and all but the chic... comon... ya she got the bod allright but phuuuuleeezeee whats up with her face?
Regards.
-
Heh, tell ya what Rip. You take the BMW, and I'll take the chick . . . In the back of my Tahoe! :D

BTW...Deja, I forgot to email ya, but you're welcome to come down whenever. Same goes for you Rip, but bring the girl along!

Why BMW's are better than any other car
Because they are german cars.
-
I've never liked BMW because everybody seems to get an erection from them.
So called status symbols, status is nothing you can touch. As far as i am concerned, status does not exist.
BMW's are good cars, but i just don't want to participate in this community that is staring blind at BMW, Mercedes, Audi and so on.
I drive a Renault clio 1.6 16v with 110Hp.
I love it.
It is small and comfortable.
The seats are one of the best available.
Example.
If i have to choose between a BMW 3.20 and a subaru impreza. I take the impreza.
See ya,
JG5FaBi.
Ps, have you ever seen on tv this cover from Phil Collins, Coming in the air tonight?
This girl is standing in front of a BMW. She wears a jacket or coat covered with BMW logo's. That is truly sad! :) i laughed my bellybutton off lookin' at that. :)
-
Bike, the title of this thread was misleading, BMW is far from the best car (however one of the most pleasureable driving experiences you'll ever have..) and the thread was simply drawing light to the nice looking chic. :)
-
They have nice handling and roaring of straight six in higher rpm is something beautiful :)
Something Subaru can't produce, at least now :D
-
btw Rip how much that thing costs in there?
Cheapest 330Ci is 50k in dollars here.
We have a nice taxes in cars you know...

For the 330ci, prices start for the 2002 models at $34,995.00. Taxes are based by state (WA state is 8.5%) and car tags each year is $30. I went for the 330 with the bigger engine (3.0L, 227 HP) and left the "luxury" options to those who care about "fluff" .

I bought the car as a toy, I plan to race it in our BMW club at the track. I begin instructor lessons in late Oct. and continue again in the spring. You won't find many 115 hp cars racing at Seattle International Raceway ;). If I was using it for a form of transportation from point a to point b, I would have bought a 115 hp car too...but Im not, this is a hobby, one of racing. Gonna be fun!

sounds like a mid life crisis to me :)

green with envy as I climb back into 94 civic with 208,000 miles :)

AH, nice try Eagle, wife said that too, I will answer you like I did her, "If it was truly a mid-life crisis, I would have opted for the Z-3 with no back seat, or a Corvette.." :) :)
PS: to make you less jealous, I've saved my pennies for 10 years for this day..investments helped too, Thank you Bill Gates! :)

Why BMW's are better than any other car....

"Why BMW's are better than any other car"
I think it's the own-horn-tootin' loudmouth poser owners that put them over the top!
Rip, did you order the satin baseball jacket with "BMW" logo, or are you getting the BMW emblem medallion? Better yet you can get one of those "bald guy berets" with the BMW logo.
:D

Didn't go overboard that far Funked, but did join the BMW club so I could race it on both Seattle International raceway, and Bremerton international raceway. $100 for an 8 hour day of racing. Replaces my addiction for skydiving that used to cost at least that much per day, but the equipment for this new sport is alittle more than the cost of parachute equipement.. :D
Incidently, read up a thread or two next time, the thread name was to draw you to the girl not the car, ya dummy!
-
Nope, not gonna read a thread when I can make a perfectly good smart bellybutton remark based on the title!
WTG on the track time. Good way to learn the limits of the car. Just don't crash! If you don't have racing experience it can be easy to go overboard. Good luck!

Only Novice driving school in Oct. then next May for progressive instructor racing school...so I got all winter to get familiar with the car...should be fun. Beats virtual racing!

If you had a driving school you'll be fine I think!

can't help but wonder how BMW's rate as far as dependability....compared to say...a toyota...or a honda....
-
mine tune's itself - literally. always turns on cold hot or otherwise and is very safe to leave the wife in.
it is only expensive if you take it to the dealer. i am not one of those narscissistic owners that have bmw wallpaper in their bathroom - i just take it to 'the guy down the street' and get very reasonable rates.
most mechanics these days deal with complex equipment and i am always surprised by how competent and intelligent they are. my grandad was a ford mechanic for 35 years and was great but a lot of the other mechanics i met as a kid were dolts. times change. some things are expensive but they break rarely so it evens out.
most of the bad stuff happens around 60k with the cooling system but once you past that it's done. it's all in how you do it i guess. you can be a jerk and act 'entititled' or just quietly appreciate a really nice and good looking car.
i think i know how rip will be (lolol) but dont worry we'll still like you
;)

BMW's do not have those qualities, their reliability for little things like rattles, aux fans, etc. are questionable, but the sports steering that they are famous for, the acceleration and rear wheel drive overcome the pitfalls of them. In other words, if you want dependable transportation, buy a Honda (everyone owns 2) but if you want a truly enjoyable driving experience on a twisty road or the track, Get a Bimmer.
MrFish, I researched the mechanical aspect too. Here, the Ford dealership charges $78/hr for labor, BMW charges $80. Wow, 2 bucks an hour difference! Parts are about 20% more than domestic auto parts, but I can live with that...my long term plan is to own this to 50,000 (or 5 years) then upgrade to a 330 hp M3. :) Time to start saving again.

note the Porsche Boxster on the lift, nicer cars than people make 'em out to be. But I
still think 911's are the definitive Porsche.

Of course, it could also mean he too saw "Finding Forrester". ;)
BTW.. I like the Boxters quite a bit. If I would have moved out toward the coast I would have had a 35 mile commute on country highway. I was keeping a close eye on the Boxter pricing. Sure, its not a 911, but its not $90,000 either ;)

Hehe Hblair: Here's the answer:
1932 "The Birth of the Rings":
Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer Werke merge to form Auto Union AG. These four elite German companies are represented in the Auto Union badge by four circles.
I've owned 2 Audi's and 2 Volkswagons so far in life, now its time to test the Bimmers out.

You Christian balding guys have it easier than atheists, too.
"God gave all of us heads, but unravels only those that are beautiful enough" <-- about going bald.
Am telling you, it's a conspiracy.
When did ya get the tattoo btw? I see before me a Ripsnort past spent with amle sailors on a cramped merchant vessel 3 months out at sea, with the porno mags being too clogged up to be useable...eeeek! :D
-
I have 3 scars (homemade tatoos) from a very angry, very rebellious Ripsnort when he was 16, had no parents (Divorced, mother had no means to control me) and was out to screw the world...then at 18 I grew up. :) Regretted them ever since, just can't justify the $5000 for lazer surgery. Long sleeve shirts while at work fit in fine.

"Mommy, why is Daddy's hair dying???" :D
CHEVROLET ALL THE WAY!!!!
proud driver of a '97 Lumina and '00 Corvette)
-
Your dad give you the keys back to your vette yet Animal?
-
I have keys, he never drives it anymore only me. I dont use it much though, only at night.
For everyday use I drive the lumina and for rough stuff a 94 jeep wrangler.
the vette is a true beast though, i really love that car, but its just not practical for everyday use; you are always in fear of someone keying it, etc
and the cops are always on my ass, a black boy driving a vette really draws eyes. lets just say the Guaynabo City Police already know who I am, and they drive really fast Mustangs
-
LOL! Yeah, know what you mean by the keying, we had our 99' explorer about 2 days and someone keyed it from stem to stern on drivers side while parked in Walmart.
-
Hey Rip, I always heard rumours that the electrical systems in the BMW are very prone to failure, is this true?
Ive never driven a beemer before, though many people speak highly of them.
My best friends dad (who has a TRUE midlife crisis) told me about the failures, though he is really biased to Mercedes Benz cars. He owns five of them (rich doctor type), and I got to drive the smallest model; the SLK Kompressor (dont remember the number) its the one that looks like a small remote control toy car. Nice car, but I was not impressed.
You got me interested in driving a Beemer though, I'll check the local raceways to see if someone will let me drive his (true way to test cars is to race em)
-
Aux fan recall began for 2000-2001 3-series before June of this year. Mine has the new Aux fan unit, so no probs..that's why I like to buy the models late in their production lives, most bugs are worked out by then,(2002's are now being produced, my car was a week 30 production, last week they made them was week 38 for 2001)...every car manufacturer has recalls nowadays, seems they thru quality control out the window with the invention of the recall.
I might add, I test drove about 8 different model of competing autos (all Euro models, 1 honda model) and saved the Bimmer for last...there was no question about how it handled, they could have put a Gremlin body on it and I still would have bought it...the steering in a BMW is like no other(Until you start getting into Ferrari's, Porches, and cars that cost about $20,000 to $120,000 more than this one)

Its a movie Hblair. Kinda like "Good Will Hunting" only with a writer instead of a mathmatician.

Yep! We have a new set of rules for our Bimmer. No Mall shopping parking lots and specifically no WALMART parking lots. Car is only going to be used from Garage to Garage, ie, from home to work in my case and if wife uses it on the week-ends she works, she parks in garaged parking at Harborview medical. We'll use our other two vehicles for any other travel, the BMW is for my play time and occasionally for commuting..meanwhile, she gets babied and parked in my newly carpeted garage. ;) Pics to come...
-
Rip.. start working on the tricks of the trade in regards to parking lots. Any new-car ding I've gotten in my car has been a result of a parking lot at work. Where you may be safer from being keyed, you are not immune to the bellybutton that lets his door swing open full.
- Park with one side against a curb if at all possible. Best if its the passenger side.
- Avoid parking next to two doors since they, as a rule, have longer doors than a 4-door.
- Avoid parking next to older American cars. Look at how big and heavy those doors are.
- Always favor the left side of the parking space... giving plenty of room on the right.
- NEVER park in a "Compact" space.
Having your car keyed sucks... but its an act of vandilism you can avoid with security. Door dings are an act of inconsideration and are nearly impossible to avoid. The first door ding always crushes your spirit.
AKDejaVu
-
Agreed Deja, and good advice..I may add a couple of no no's too. No-brainers, but never the less...never angle park, its like putting a target on your car. Never park near trees...bird droppings have Hydrocloric acid and Ammonia that will etch into the clear coat and thru to the paint, which leaves a permanent mark if not washed off immediately (not very noticible in light colors, but very noticible in dark colors)
-
You're right about Wal-Mart parking lots. They keep the local body shop going during lean times. ;)
Talking about keying cars, we had a newer model camaro in here about a year ago, it was keyed like no other I've seen, the girl was very embarrassed when I wrote the estimate, cause there were words keyed into it! Words like "slut", "potato", "smelly", etc. etc. It was all I could do to keep from laughing. Seems she'd done stole some local girls boyfriend.
-
Hblair, qustion for ya: Though its only cosmetic, I'm really not too concerned about it, but...out of financially morbid curiousity, how much would it cost to touch up 2 door panels for a keyed area? I tried the touch up paint, but it still is very noticeable.
-
With the labor rates we're on, it'd be in the neighborhood of $500 - $750, depending on how deep the scratches are and if the metal is bent...
-
Cool, thks for info Hblair.
-
Knowing full well we will be reading about your kids college fund, I mean new BMW for months, I admit I was curious just what the hell you are getting. I asked my brother Clay who buys, trades, and sells cars, often BMW's, what the deal on the new beamers are. Plus I've drove several types when visiting his dealership.
Here's what he said-
The 3 series is for girls or yuppie 20 somethings, about the size of a Corolla. The M3, which is the 240 hp version is OK but over priced. The 5 series, Camry sized cars, have a 528 (six cylinder), a 540 (V , and the M5 (high output V8 about 400 hp I think), very sweet car. Quiet, airconditioned, comfort and a killer stereo that will seat four comfortable and annihilate a Vette no problem. The luxo line is the 7 series and loaded up they approach $100k. They have more gadgets than the Enterprise and come in a couple of varieties the 740i and 740il ( a stretched version of the i with a huge back seat with power rear seats). They come with about a 300 hp V8. I'm not sure if they still make it or not, but they used to have a 750 that came with a V12. For a road trip it would be tough to beat the 740il.
I drove a 5 something, and a 7 something. The 7 was the toejam. Huge, quiet, comfy, fast.
I went trap shooting with my friend, and his brother-in-law insisted we take his wifes new 3 something BMW. It was a squeak getting in the back seat, the thing is a postage stamp. He drove it 100mph scaring the toejam out of everyone. Yippee.
If you are getting the 3 series, I wouldn't make a webpage for it or link pictures off you AH BBS sig.
-
i hope you didnt buy a new 3 series thatd be dumb
better to buy a certified 5 series. bmw actually certifies their cars not just slaps a sticker on em since they come with another 50,000 miles of warranty.
-

We repaired one of these jewels a few years ago. Not only the V12, but this babe had power-heated rear seats. Black with gray leather interior. Yummy.

There's no way rip's beemer will be safe if I ever move to the US.
Not til I can afford my own Viper. Or a big arse motorcycle.
Then I'll just leave him inhaling dust.
But until then, my keys and rip's beemer will meet in a loving entanglement.
:D

I almost feel sorry for him. His biggest boast is a foolish endeavor, and noone will care.
Like I said, $800 cash for a 1993 Ford Taurus. Gets me to work and back, no payments. Cold bellybutton A/C too! I dig that.
No one looks twice, including cops. I secure enough with that. Plus the no car payment makes for some serious fun on the town.

i'm sure you look like a pimp cruising that taurus creamo.
....all those lonely reno house-hags thinking "oh, i bet he is going to get some groceries too! rowrrrr! maybe he's got a few nickles to blow on a lady over fitzpatrick's. oh well, better go get the 18 pack my 'ol man' wanted so i dodn't get beat when he gets home"
...i can see it now creamer.
-
Thats a good point Fish.
Hmmmm.
Ok, I'm going to the credit union Monday, see if I can hookup into a pre-owned 5 series Beamer. Should set me back about $500/month. Then when I drive by all those lonely reno house-hags, they'll be thinking "oh, look at that super treat! rowrrrr! maybe he's got a few thousand bucks to blow on a lady over the Moonlight Bunny Ranch. oh well, better go get the 18 pack my 'ol man' wanted so i dodn't get beat when he gets home."
Seems like alot for all that nonsense though. Can't I just put it in my 401K?

That's damn near cheap. I apologise for any doubts about having a nice car. I think I shall buy this.

Absolutely, with my 78 GMC truck, I have no payments, no worries about keys or cardoor damage (who'd notice). And merging onto the freeway is a breeze, (with that fender shaking & the exhaust roaring this thing has 'uninsured motorist' written all over it) they give ya plenty of room. People cut me off all the time when I drive the wife’s Volvo but lanes seem to just open up for the truck

thats what i'm talking about. theres nothing quite as fun as an UGLY truck.
even if ya completely total it you've lost little or nothing.
-
That truck is the toejam.
Foward firing exhaust, a nice Kenwwod stereo (whats with the throttle sticker on it?) and a Evenrude outboard motor cowling in the front seat.
Plus it's 21,000 less than the 740i.
Sweet.
-
Sorry Rip... :D
Have a 2001 BMW 530i with full sports package and all the options. Great driving car with poorly appointed interiors and really bad quality control on leaks and rattles. All the windows rattle and it leaks in car washes.
Been back to the dealer several times and they said they can't do anything about it. Believe it or not, they blame the factory. ;) You'd think for $85,000 Cdn you could get a car that doesn't rattle. :D My old Ford Taurus was put together better inside than this thing.
Would never buy another one or recommend the brand!
Wife has an E320 and it's a far better vehicle overall in that price class. I believe they're coming out with a sport version of the E320 class (E55?) which will probably be my next critter when this one runs out of the lease.

Beaters rule. Cheap insurance. Folks get out of your way when you merge onto the freeway. You don't have to worry about door dings. You don't mind if your dog jumps on the door when you get home. I drove beaters my entire life...25 years worth of driving. I love em. That's why I'm keeping my pick up truck! Its just time to have a toy for the race track. Something I've always wanted to do.Still planning to commute in my old pick up, I like being up high in traffic.
Badger, you're not the first to complain about rattles, though the leaks are the first I've heard...however, I did not buy it for quality, I bought it for the steering, the engine, and for fun at the track.

Creamo, FYI: E46 body style is: M3 and 3 series. The M3 today comes with 333 hp. The 330 now has the old HP that the M3 used to have (or close anyways) which is 225 hp (older M3's had 255). Yep, its a sub compact, 3200 lbs. I'll enjoy it at the track.
