Why dont we have the options for formations with the TBM or B5N? Both level bombers??? I'd even throw out the idea of adding a formation for the D3A and SBD...Code would have to allow them to follow lead aircraft into extreme dives without exploding, but I think this would be a great way to get more people flying some of the early war, or less used birds in the MA!
thoughts?

OMG something else i agree with cav on .
Quick someone shoot me.

*Ka-POW* there ya go bronk :D
I like the idea

lol...Im trying to calm down on here...I stored HTC Office telephone # in my cell and have been calling quit frequently with comments/questions, so I dont want to be to much of a pain in the arse anymore! haha....
Back to the request though...Would it be possible to code the formations to follow the lead aircraft in extreme maneuvers???? Maybe when CT comes out and the AI is perfected this will be possible?
anyways i'd love to see this! I'd fly D3A's constantly!
-
Ahh... come on. That's exactly why you don't have drones following those bombers. They manouver too quickly and can dive which the drone coding does not render.
I don't understand why we cant have drones on the A-20 though, it's the same as the Bost III, except bigger guns. (Speaking of which, the AHII Film Viewer calls the Bost III an A-20. Hmmm)
-
The D3A and SBD, were dive bombers...thats the point lol
-
That's what I was mentioning. The drones arent built to "dive along". If you dive in a B-17, the drones pull up and you lose them on some occasions. The coding isnt in the prestine condition to allow you to use dive bomber drones.
-
I know...I asked if it was possible to make code for this...Maybe even use the AI from CT once its mastered
-
I think its a great idea. I'm an old Kate driver from AW, so the thought of upping a formation of 3 and sticking some torps into a carrier works fine for me. If you can take up 3 x Ju88s with 2 torps each, why not 3 Kates or Avengers?
The divebombing aspect presents a bit of a problem, but if HT gets the combat tour code working right I'd hope it ports right over for this.

It's not like a formation of b5n's or d3a's would even produce an overwhelming amount of ords...it's not going to be something ridicilous...I just think this would really get more people using these birds....Especially the SBD...I think I have seen that thing once in the past like 8 months in the MA...Whats it carry? 500 pounder plus two 100 pounders? formation is only 2100 pounds of ords, but I would DEFINATELY fly it

this is a great idea:aok

This has been asked for before. Remember the problems HTC had getting the b24 drones to follow? Now doing it on a carrier? Good idea though
-
Im asking if this could be done once the CT AI is mastered?

Anything is possible.

If they can get a bunch of fat heavily-loaded Lancs to up and follow, I think the problem is already solved. The Kate lifts off a carrier pretty much on its own, so as long as the carrier isn't turning when you up I think you'd be OK.
That fat american iron (Avengers and SBDs) might be a bit tougher, but I don't think it is anything that can't be tweaked into working. As it is now, drones seem to have a much lower stall speed (hence their quick climb to 200 ft while most bombers are still wallowing on the runway).
I'd definitely like to see this - it would make carrier-based bombing a reasonable alternative to driving big buffs over from many sectors away or just upping a heavy fighter. As it is now, why up an Avenger, Kate, or SBD when you can just grab an F4U or F6F and jam 2 x 1000 lb bombs on it? A formation option means we can take up to a 6K bombload to target with Avengers, which actually gives you a reason to up the bombers from a CV.
IMHO - it would be good for gameplay since it might bring more a more diverse aircraft mix into the CV battles. Hopefully, it would be simple to implement, since it uses existing aircraft.

HTC any thoughts on the matter?

Good points EagleDNY, i think i'd like to see this implemented even more now.:)

So was the JU88

1st time I flew a tbm after the formations had just started {i forget what version} I was shocked to find that it and the other cv level bombrs are left virtualy unprotected, i believe this is a super idea, and personaly i would fly the tbm alot more, its a good plane with solid rear armorment,{especialy usful on those low and slow torp runs!}
one word...SOLID:aok

I think the bombers that used defensive formations to help protect each other got drones. Those that were flown like fighters, but with a bomb attached, didn't. Then afterwards HT mentioned there's a limitation (now, after the fact) as to how the drones work on CVs. Too many problems to sort out, if I recall. Don't expect drones on CV anytime soon.
-
If we can't get the drones on the CVs, I wouldn't mind having the ability to up them from shore bases to attack incoming CVs as a stopgap until that can be addressed....

I would fly SBD's to attack CV's and fields all the time if we had the option of a formation
-
ehh SBD,s..ive seen lots of footage of them in formation, but seeing as its primarily a dive bomber...it would be like having triple ju-87's.
the TBM on the other hand......

So what if its a dive bomber? If HTC could intergrate the AI from CT into formations to allow the drones to follow into a dive it would be an awesome way to get people to actually fly these mothballs
