Title: Ghost Recon Demo
Post by: Kratzer on November 06, 2001, 03:01:00 PM
You should check this out if you liked Rainbow 6, Rogue Spear, or Operation Flashpoint... I was expecting just a rehash of Rogue Spear, but it is actually a pretty fresh new game...

When it starts getting hot, put your team on 'suppress'... it'll give you goosebumps  :)

Get it here:

Man!

This demo kicks arse!

And, it runs better than Rogue Spear, despite having much more detailed graphics.

Yeah: agree completely about the goosebumps bit. Had a coupe of machinegun guys with me: WHOO THMOTHOMPTHOMP

DROOL time.

And downloaded at 110kb/s, not too shabby  :)

Can't wait for this game to be released. Kickass!

Still addicted to OFP but I have a soft spot for the R6 series.  OTW home to DL.   :)

If you are expecting RS, prepare to be a bit surprised.

I gave a synopsis of some of the new stuff on the LJK board, in this thread (http://pub8.ezboard.com/fluftjagerkorpsfrm21.showMessage?topicID=401.topic)

There are a few issues, but overall... wowsers... the first of what I hope will be several great games in the next 4 months.

Sounds a lot like OFP from what I read on your board.  That's a good thing.   :)

yep... but on a much smaller, and more intense scale... I suspect it will be a nice companion to OFP when you are in the mood for something different.

Many of the guy sin my squad play R6/RS/UO and compete on a ladder for it.  We are planning on playing Ghost Recon when it comes out.

If you ever have the need to play RS/UO, feel free to give one of us a holler, we'll let you know when and where to join one of our games.

Raub and I just played a couple hours of co-op in the demo... that is one helluva fun game!

That demo's a blast. I love the trees swaying in the wind and the sounds are pretty good. Only problems I've noticed are some pops coming through the speakers once in a while and one time I walked into a house and the walls disappeared and the floor turned into a mirror looking thing.

Definitely on my must buy list.

I had to download the latest drivers for my vid card to get it to run without locking up.  I get those pops occasionally too.

Other than that... the game is simply awesome.  It beats Rogue Spear and SWAT3 to death :D

I've got the pops too.

But no graphics problems, and it's surprisingly stable.

Is there a manual anywhere which explains how to control squads or give orders to an individual trooper?

I dunno Funked. I just went to the keymapping section and jotted em down real quick. The graphics thingy is weird...can't really describe it. The ground just looks "grainy"...like green kitty litter. Maybe its just my graphics card.

I got caught up in the demo. Couldn't figure out how to put troops on "supress" though. The game seems pretty good so far, and plays well on my GeForce2 GTS.

Wolfenstien Castle 3d demo better in some ways...

Hello...

Maybe you guys now loughing at me...but...

If I play any ego shooter for 5 minutes and run and turn around very much I get sea-sicked... means I feel not good and become dizzy´...

Any other with this syndrom here? Or better consult a doctor???

THIS IS NO JOKE! I really become sick of it....

played on my launch break. put a sniper in the tower and sent 1 team into 1 building another into the other building killing all inside.

then sent my sniper around the castle walls sniping everyone i saw.

forgot what the goal was so i just killed everyone i saw.

However I couldn't remember any of the commands or keys.

so far its ok. on my g3 the graphics look "grainy" as well.

I haven't made any ingame video adjustments except to set res at 1024x768 32

I like ofp better and wolfenstien while boring still has better action. Didn't find a command menu but I only had 30 mins after dwnlding it to screw around.

JV44,

I used to have this happen to me when I played Doom way back when. So I quit playing it and have not looked back.  :D

As for the doctor you might want to check in if it continues bothering you after you stop playing the game(s).

You might want to mess around with the refresh rate on your monitor to see if that helps you in any way. I still have it happen at times when I play games like R6/RS/UO Delta Force: Land Warrior with their interiors. It has yet to happen in a game where I have an "outside view of things in the game.

Andreas my father has the same problem.  I felt it one time after I played Half-Life for many many hours when I was absent from work with influenza.

its your monitor cycling..

up your monitor adapter (make sure you are within specs.)

If thats not it stay away from it. Rmember them japaneese kids that became catatonic from watching pokemon from the screen flashes............

thats how they get in your head and make you do stuff,,,,,,,,,,

you'll wake up feeling dirty nakid in a pool of urine and sweat wondering how you ended up under that bridge.........

bad stuff comes out there.....trust me

I'm sure there will be with the game, but here's a few quick pointers:

I don't think you can give orders to an individual (and it seems difficult to get a team to maintain pose - up/crouch/prone - and have them keep it once you move on to the next team, as they will move to cover).   It seems that if you position them well, they will hold their position though.  Thinking of it now, it seems that if they are on 'hold', they might find the best piece of cover they can find, but if they are on advance, they might stay right where you put 'em... hmmmm...

Anyway, to give orders to a squad, open the map*,  select the squad from the top of the map window, then simply click on the map where you want them to go.  If you click 'soldiers' on the right of the map, you will see your teams.  To the left you will see two buttons - one with an arrow, and one with a gun.  The arrow is engagement speed (advance/all-costs advance/hold) and the gun is engagement mode.  Click those buttons for the team you want to modify.   You can select an individual soldier from any position in the squads from this screen too.

You can also give orders to the entire platoon using 4 - 9... in the keymapper you will see what does what.

Seems you can't order a team to do specific actions, such as frag a room...

Anyway, hope that helps...

*tip, map (hehe) this to 'TAB', and you can open the map by holding it down, and release it by letting it go... there are two 'map' keys, can't remember offhand, but one should work this way...

PS: edit your soldiers on setup, have one carry a TOW, hehehehehe  ;)

Without doubt the best tactical squad based game, beats all others in fun and realism when it comes to infantary combat. Doesn't try to compet with OF though.

Will kick but in Multiplayer, possible to play up to 36 in one arena.

Not from what I've heard. Nov. 14th is the official date listed in their promos, and at my local Software Etc.

Gonegold.com - Nov. 14
Gamespot.com - Nov. 13 (which makes more sense to me since most stuff is released on Tuesdays)
Red Storm says the game will ship on the 13th.
