Don't worry, Funked, you have to actually have a life before it can end!  :D

But I agree. But for me the three games are Civ III, Silent Hunter II and IL-2.

Question to anyone who's been in the beta test or following Il-2 closely:

There's 2 (that I've noticed) graphic anomalies when running Il-2 in OpenGL using a Voodoo5 5500...(D3D-- wow it's just a mess visually) The two visual anomalies are 1)Glare on aircraft- it appears more as a sketch pattern than a solid glare pattern. As in it looks like someone is placing white sketch lines on the aircraft when glare occurs on the skin of an aircraft or inside the cockpit.
And 2) On the water textures, there's an area where it's rendered perfectly fine... then surrounding that area is a large grey area with no textures. Some of the rendered area crosses over onto the grey area and creates a very strange looking texture.

Does anyone know if that has been fixed? In other words, have the V5 graphic problems been fixed for the final release? I'm using the Demo as a point of reference.
Thanks!

From what I've heard, the game will be unrecognizable from the demo in terms of refinement and hardware compatibility, as well as in graphics, physics... you get the idea.  I believe the demo is a version from last spring.

Yeah, I understood the demo as being very old. I hadn't heard anything definitive from Maddox about the V5 issues being worked out.

<crosses fingers>

Sure hope so, looking forward to this game!

Thanks for the reply!

Hummmmmmm does that G-2 still roll like a 190 on hormones?  :)

I know a friend who is going to purchase it. Will give the game a try at his home and if I find its worth it, I'll buy Il-2

P.S. If Il-2 is as good as they claim it to be, then for me the triade will be SH2, Il-2....and SUB COMMAND!

Sub command rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has definetly been a change to the pilots strenght, which now makes the 109 roll slower with more speed.

A quick comparison between the demo and the beta 4 I have gave me following aprox.:

Speed(kph)   Demo     Beta 4
300         2.5 sec   2.8 sec
400         3.0 sec   3.8 sec
500         3.5 sec   5.2 sec
600         3.8 sec   6.5 sec

SWulfe, I don't know whats the status on the Voodoo's are, sorry. I have a GF2.

Ohh and I don't know how it compare to the 190. They are first included in the latest beta which is only released for the press.

I`d get rid of that Voodoo card.
It might be a nice card, but as we all know the only reason NV bought 3dfx out ,is to make sure there`s no future support for them,so all voodoo owners gonna have to buy a new card sooner than later.

I just built a system of spare parts for someone. Was gonna use a voodoo3 card, but after finding out what a pain is to get OpenGL and Glide to work in win xp,i decided to use a diamond card.At least that company is still in business.

i had a voodoo 3 but i had so much trouble with it i finally got a G-force 2.  I advise eveyone to pick up the G-force 3. You cant find it in stors then get the G-force 2 64mb its almost as good.

How much is a good GeForce3 card and which model is the best...

I'm not concerned with upgrading in the immediate future (next month or so anyway), but if it comes down to it (Il-2 or any new games I purchase have funky graphic anomalies)- I would like to know which card I should go aiming for.

Thanks!

you can get a Ti200 for about $190, and a Ti500 (the best) for about $300.

Don't listen to Kratzer   :)

You can get an original GF3 from Newegg.com for $239 and easily clock it past Ti500 speeds. With updated drivers the only difference between the 2 cards is the color. Ti200 is a good value, but for a few extra bucks the higher quality RAM in the old GF3's is worth it. You'll be able to squeeze more out of the 3.8ns RAM of the old GF3 than the 4.5ns or 5ns RAM on the GF3 Ti200.

<edit>That card for $239 is a Gainward btw...very good quality. When looking for a GF the most important thing to check is the RAM. Stay away from cards made by PNY. Gainward, Leadtek, and MSI have good reputations.

One reason for buying a leadtek Ti200 IMO is good price/value combined to the improved filter design which they implement in the latest geforce3 cards. Only leadtek..

High quality filters give a sharp 2D image quality familiar from cards like Matrox.. Really important factor which commonly gets overlooked when choosing a display card.

OTOH those filters are already present in the 'old' top leadtek GF3 model so that might be a good deal.

Whoa Whoa Whoa!!! What is the deal with the PNY cards... I just ordered one (GeForce 3 Ti500 yadda yadda) thinking it was a good deal w/lifetime replacement warranty. Please tell me I didn't screw up!

They are all pretty much exactly the same damn thing - I think Raub just had a bad experience - don't get too worried.
