Physics are still strange. It hasn't changed much from GTR 1.. nice eye candy, if a bit cartoonish.
Sort of like Il2 and Aces High.

It doesn't feel like GTR1 at all. At worst it feels like GTL with a much better low speed handeling. I'll gladly buy it, the driving feeling is fun. As GTL, it looks easy to drive at first, then it gets twitchy when u start to shave off seconds. I'm looking foward to those league races.

I like the damage set at 200%, 100% is still close from cruising around in an armored car. The sounds are "ok", but nothing too exciting there. The AI is pretty good at not bulling you around, but you always end up being the one spining in case of contact.

I'm not too fast, I'm running a consistent 1:43s with the Lambo, I'm no way close from the 1:33s reported on RSC.

Raced couple races, best time in 575 was 1:41.9.
I'll be buying this one for sure.

There are few more cars  that can be unlocked in the demo(550,S7,Lister and Viper):

open and edit the following .car files yourself (or use files included in the .rar):

- GameData\Teams\GT\Chrysler Viper Teams\Force One Festina\04032_GT_VIPER.car

- GameData\Teams\GT\Ferrari 550 Teams\Wieth\04022_GT_Ferrari_F550.car

- GameData\Teams\GT\Lister Storm Teams\Lister Racing\04014_GT_Lister.car

- GameData\Teams\GT\Saleen S7R Teams\Vitaphone Racing Team\04005_GT_SALEEN_S7R.car

On the "classes=" line add "DEMO, " to the list. For example, with the nr. 5 Saleen that would result in this:

classes="DEMO, FULL, 2004, GT_2004, AM, SALEEN, MONZA_2004, VALENCIA, MAGNY_2004, HOCKENHEIM, BRNO_2004, DONI_2004, SPA_2004, IMOLA, OSCHERS_2004, DUBAI, ZHUHAI, CC005, CC003"

Then launch the .exe for the car you're adding.
All the cars will be visible at the selection menu ingame, but only the one with the exe launched will actually work! Otherwise the game will crash.

Title: YMMV
Post by: moot on July 25, 2006, 06:59:03 PM
I dunno, playing GTL I could tell it was made by the same guys as GTR.  The traction just didn't feel 'right'.  GTR2's physics 'work' the same way GTR's do, as far as I can tell.  I'd say some things seem a bit canned :)

If the netcode is good, there's no reason for anyone into simracing not to try it.

I don't quite agree as in GTR1 I could not recover from a slide. In GTL/GTR2  I usually recover the car from a inturn heavy foot. I sense you have much more feedback from what the car is going to do, and take your pleasure from riding the "edge".

I did had this caned feeling you mentioned before I tweaked the wheel sensitivity in the option menue. I think I use 50% on the steering, 80% on the gas/brake, 30% on the high speed.

All that off course in pro mode, which I know an old driving fox like u is using:cool:

Thx for the tip BD.

I'm just nitpicking..  As soon as I have to work more than play a competitive game, I quit.  Being more or less addicted to speed, racing and beating others and generaly flogging anything I can get my hands on, little details keeping good games from being great stick out like sore thumbs to me, esp. if they're the kind you can't ignore.
When I race or fly games, I just do things naturaly, as if I was doing it for real. I have a hard time compromising between full real and totaly gamey, and (frankly) LFS just fulfills all the right qualities without any un-ignorable defects (e.g. Sound system: aestheticaly crap, but functionaly great), while those few details in GTR just rub me the wrong way.  And that's just like Il2's FM glitches coated in its great eye candy.

But it's a great game, and if the netcode is good, then who cares about little false notes. If there's enough people racing, I'll be on :)
I'm going to try and tweak the settings some more..

My PC just died, so I can't test it myself, but here's another tweak..
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=179402#post179402

I played with the setup in GTR2, but honestly I can't get instinctively immersed into it like in [some other game].
I made these when I had as much experience with S2 as I do with GTR/GTL now:
http://taenia.homestead.com/files/Gumball40c.wmv
http://taenia.homestead.com/files/fxoSCtc_1024.wmv
I just can't ride the cars' limits doing exactly what I want like that in GTR.. I'll try it some more when I get the replacement PC parts.

Email me Russian, I'll send u my lambo qual setup and vid, did 1:39.1. Still slow I guess saw a couple of 1:34s on the web:)

Thx Moot, but I'll stick to the non altered physics settings.

Thanks but right now it’s all about my exceptional skills of losing control and greeting unfriendly walls at 200kph. Once I learn proper steering and throttle control, and manage to finish two laps without big mess-ups, then I can start tweaking car. I've only spent two hours with demo so far and since I never played GTR, learning curve is quite large. Also playing with joystick and rudders doesn’t help much. :p

I will watch a vid though. (simfreak@gmail.com)

I use keyboard for acceleration and brakes, and joystick for steering. So i gotta use traction control to make it enjoyable.

Best time in lambo so far 1:40.7

Does it install starforce?  The last GTR demo I installed killed my DVD drive and I had to format my HD and re-install windows just so I could burn DVDs again.

This one does not.

Ouch, I'm sorry to hear that.

A steering wheel for those types of racing games is a have to, otherwise all those TCS/ABS/stability/braking helps revert the driving experience to a Need for Speed clone. Kind of like going from AH to Crimson Skies. The fun is really coming from mastering the car and the track, not the track alone.

I wished I had a fancy pedal setting that would allow me to do some real footwork such as blimping/trailbraking. I can do it with disabling the autoclutch, but then I get stuck if I spin in a kitty litter.

Eagler, they got rid of starforce for GTR2.

Thx. Maybe I'll give it a shot.  I liked GTR so I might really like GTR2 if it doesn't trash my computer.

Come on, you rebuilt your '73, but can't make yourself custom pedals? :)
Title: GTR 2
Post by: United on July 28, 2006, 01:50:08 PM
Question: If you use pedals for it, does the clutch work like a real clutch?  Such as, you have to give a little gas as you let out the clutch, or is it like other games and all you do is shove the clutch in and drop it and it shifts perfectly?

I got so frustrated this morning from driving with Cougar that now I have a brand new Logitech MOMO in front of me. :-D

KABAM!  That's what I have too. I disabled the FF in GTR2, it throws me around in stright lines.

I noticed that too....is there a way to turn off just that...because 'stiffness', which I assume is part of FF, helps a lot!

Yes, I have. I assume you use manual, right? .....with video I'm not sure how to turn on speed-o-meter and line....but it looks nice. :D

Yeah, everything off except autoclutch. By whatching someone else's video, I learned I could actually brake much later. Vids are helpfull :)

I did notice that you were breaking later than I usually do. You can do that because of manual transmission, right?

Probably more because of the brake repartition, when u use manual transmission make sure you blip the throttle a bit to avoid rear end lock on hard downshifts. (But I think autoclutch does that for u).

This requires unbelievable amount of concentration; I’ve never experienced anything so freaking difficult; hell, even flight simulators are relatively easy compare to this. I guess since this is my first driving simulator, I should feel better about my performance. ...just a little more.... 1.41.394....a little more.
