I was reading in Squadron Signals book on the F4U Corsair that the ealy model F4Us tendancy to to flip the wing up at slow speeds was resolved by a small airfoil or wedge shaped peice of medal on the starboard wing outboard the MGs.
I have looked at a boat load of F4U pictures and just don't see it. Is this information correct? Looking forward to hearing from some Hog heads on this one.
Thanks.

It was a piece 6" long and 1" wide. It was flat, basically a piece of angle with one edge attached to the wings leading edge.

Thats starboard wing only I take it? I can see why now. I was looking for something a bit larger.

It was a stall-strip, yes? Just trying to visualize it.

That be it...
-
I dont see it.
-
Its just out side the most outer cannon kinda A shaped.
-
what kind of difference did that little piece of metal make? :huh
-
From what i can underatan it kep the wings from folding up during flight. Boy that would suck "look out your right side canopy just in time to see your wing fold " UM ouch LOL:O :rofl
-
Actually it helped prevent the left wing from stalling during slow speed turns because of the torque generated by the large prop on the F4U.
Errr I think......:(

All you ever need to know...... Airplane 6 was an F4U-1.
From NACA Test Report 829:

By the way, where they show the strip to be located was not where it was installed on production aircraft.
My regards,

This image was in the new book on the FAA Museum FG1-A Corsair. It shows the factory installed 'stall block" on their unrestored Corsair. It also says that it is made of wood.
